Take your time, its rare that everything works "perfect" in the first shot.

For ubuntu, the BEST forums are http://ubuntuforums.org

I've asked questions, and played and got everything to work perfectly... and when it does its much faster and easier than windows.

I don't think it is possible!! Although some open source IDE might be available.

To run macromedia apps or other window's apps you need to get Wine. http://www.winehq.com if you're using Ubuntu then using the terminal just type in sudo apt-get install wine and then enter your password and it will download and install wine for you.

Then just insert the cd and use wine to run the setup and it will install just like it would in Windows.

If you want to run Windows you have two options either a dual boot or you could run a virtual machine, which will let you run windows, but it depends what exactly you need to do.

Best side for guides (ubuntu specifically) -> http://www.ubuntuguide.org

Yes, you have to partition. Check the ubuntu forums. Its quite simple you know.

Have your main primary harddrive for linux set to a certain file system like ext3, about 5-8gb.

Have SWAP - This acts as Virtual Ram in windows. set it to about 512MB it you have a 1024MB RAM stick.

also does macromedia software work on linix?

.. not entirely. I used cross-over some time back and i could run it on linux. This is a commercial software. You could run windows in the Linux OS with vmware. This way you could have your macromedia stuff on the VMware installation and the rest on ubuntu or your specific linux installation. You could use wine as stated above as well.

AkalPurakhDiFauj, have you solved your problem?

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH!

well, i got linux to work, i have my hard drive partioned, so i have pinux and xp.

but i still can't get internet to work on linux.

i think i read somewhere that linux doesn't work with ubs internet connections.

and im connected to internet using a 2wire pc port, which uses usb.

so in the end, internet works on windows, but not on ubuntu/linux. = ).

any ideas?

Goto http://www.ubuntuforums.org and search up the name of your card: manufacturer and model number. There is a good chance that someone else has had a similar issue. If not, put a post there: those guys are really helpful in finding the right drivers.
