Gurudwara Or Gurdwara?

Recommended Posts

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

I was wondering which is the right word for Guru Ghar? My friend and I were debating. He said it was Gurudwara, but I said Gurdwara, and later I said it could be both because people use both. I've heard people use both and even on the Gurudwara(Gurdwaras), some say Gurudwara some say Gurdwara.

gur duAwrY hir kIrqnu suxIAY ]

gur dhuaarai har keeruthun suneeai

At the Gurdwara, the Guru's Gate, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung.

In that shabad it is Gur Duwarai

So which is correct? Are they both correct?

Bhull Chuk Maaf

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

(btw I'm not sure how to get the gurmukh font...if a mod to fix that for me that'd be great! thanks)

Which one makes you feel closer to God?

Which one makes you forge a stronger connection with that same Guru?

Which one makes you wanna do more seva?

Which one makes you do more naaam japping in a day?

whichever one you choose to answer the questions, then THAT one is the right way

both are correct, guru sahib has used both words in gurbani. pick one :TH:

bhai gurdaas jee,

gurmuK pYr skwrQy gurmuK mwrg cwl clµdy]

guramukh pair sakaarathhae guramukh maarag chaal chala(n)dhae||

Blessed are the feet of the Sikhs who walk in Guru's way;

gurU duAwry jwn cl swD sMgq cl jwie bhMdy]

guroo dhuaarae jaan chal saadhh sa(n)gath chal jaae beha(n)dhae||

guru amar daas sahib jee,

gurduAwrY lwie BwvnI ieknw dsvw duAwru idKwieAw ]

guradhuaarai laae bhaavanee eikanaa dhasavaa dhuaar dhikhaaeiaa ||

Through the Gurdwara, the Guru's Gate, some are blessed with loving faith, and the Tenth Door is revealed to them.

i'm sure the two words have slightly differnt meanig. perhaps someone who has knoweldge of gurbani grammer can explain
