New Delhi shuts eyes, civil society turns deaf and dumb

CHANDIGARH/SAN JOSE: At a time when the world is increasingly getting sensitized to the human right situation across the globe and strong voices are emerging from within the United States civil society against even the Bush administration on the issue of continuing engagement of American troops in Iraq, in India the situation is exactly the opposite. The apologists of the Indian regime and top-shot police officers who have been valorized by official India are publicly taking a stance that the federal regime had backed them in illegal killings of Sikh youth and there should be now no move to book any of these killers.

The argument: This was all in the interest of India. Killing Sikh youth by getting surrendered militants to identify them and then obliterating their identities and using them to encroach upon other people's lands and properties should be retrospectively considered legal.

Punjab's shame and India's so called super cop, K.P.S Gill, has now said that the Indian government should not bother about the strategy of police having some domestic 'Cats'. It may be recalled that police officers like Gill and former Punjab DGP Sarabdeep Singh Virk were the pioneers in the concept of 'Cats'. Any militants who would turn renegades would be illegally used by the police as spotters for other militants. Now, Virk is facing the heat as he has fallen foul of the Punjab government of Parkash Singh Badal, itself no great savior of the Sikhs or the Sikh thought. Virk was perceived close to the Amarinder Singh regime and is being made to pay for that proximity, but the fact remains that the confrontation has brought to the fore the truth of India's strategy to deal with what it called terrorism. In plain words, it was state terrorism.

Now, Gill has come forward to defend his old time crony, and his strategy is to be more blatant. At a function of Hind Samachar group of papers in Jalandhar in India, Gill said when the going got tough all sorts of strategies were followed "in the larger interest of the country". The Indian media dutifully reported Gill's comments (See The Tribune of Sep 17 or any other paper for that matter) without commenting or even editorializing with perspective what India's convicted-for-moral-turpitude 'hero' was really saying.

Gill in fact said that the police not only used Cats, "but also rats, bats, camels and the ilk.” His statement was clearly designed to fudge the issue and rather ridicule the entire construct of the human rights. "We were given a free hand as there was no other way of stamping out terrorism in Punjab. Since the other arms of the state were paralyzed, it fell on the men in uniform to take upon them to do their duty, even at the cost of their lives," KPS Gill said.

So there the Sikh community has it. India's top cops are telling it that they were armed by the nod from New Delhi to go ahead and kill innocent Sikh youth in fake encounters, pour tomato ketchup on Cats, click them lying down, show them as 'dead' and then harbor these Cats for another day, perhaps to loot other people's properties. This is now what Virk is accused of. The then CM Amarinder Singh is already on record about the use of tomato ketchup, and Virk is on record about the use of Cats and fake encounters. Now, KPS Gill is confirming each one of these averments, and Indian civil society has turned deaf and dumb, India's media has its tail between its legs and official India has its eyes wide shut.

On the case regarding use of Cats against Virk, KPS Gill said “Such actions will only demoralize the men already combating terrorism in the country. It will also act as the sword of Damocles for those who have retired.” Clearly, men like Gill want the Indian government to legalize the killings retrospectively. New Delhi is doing even better by shutting its eyes.

“You will see that the case will not pass muster,” KPS Gill said. We already know. Parkash Singh Badal's interest in the matter is not spurred by any concern for the Sikh quom, and the Indian government does not lose any sleep because its police officers are killing innocents in fake encounters, giving a boost to the tomato ketchup industry.

the hindu vote bank doesn't want to discuss this according to the head of the BJP in Punjab. so i don't even know anymore if we can just complain about the government. because according to the BJP, even the average hindu wishes to have his eyes wide shut.

I'm not bashing hinduism, but 900 million hindus who supposedly don't even hurt acow have yet to speak up against the killing of human beings. for them killing tens of thousands of innocents ikhs is legal for "protecting" the nation" whereas, the killing of CM beant sio by sikhs to protect their nation was terrorism.

these are the perks of freedom. having hindustan has given hindus a voice and an arena to decide what is right and what is wrong in terms of political and religious freedom.

the same political and religious authority guru hargobind singh ji gifted us, yet the "philisophical" sikhs will refuse anything related to political power.

these are the perks of having your own country. you get to do what is necessary to protect your ideals and way of life.

so, now what? our own homeland?

you betta believe it.

peace.

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
