Ahh you <banned word filter activated> why did you open this thread?????

Just making the point that if we're told not to do something thats exactly what we do becoz we're moorakhs.(especially me) nonono.gif

In this same way we don't follow guru sahibs hukam, even though we know its in our best interest we just continue to be manmukhs. We know we're meant to wake up at amrit vela but do we? The list of things that Guru Sahib has told us that we don't pracitce is endless so i'm just gonna write, etc.

manamukh balak biradhh saman hai jinha anthar har surath nahee ||

The self-willed manmukhs are like stupid children; they do not keep the Lord in their thoughts.

vich houmai karam kamavadhae sabh dhharam rae kai janhee ||

They do all their deeds in egotism, and they must answer to the Righteous Judge of Dharma.

jina sathigur purakh n saeviou sabadh n keetho veechar ||

Those who do not serve the True Guru, the Primal Being, and do not reflect upon the Word of the Shabad

oue manas joon n akheean pasoo dtor gavar ||

- do not call them human beings; they are just animals and stupid beasts.

ouna anthar gian n dhhian hai har so preeth n piar ||

They have no spiritual wisdom or meditation within their beings; they are not in love with the Lord.

manamukh mueae vikar mehi mar janmehi varo // ||

The self-willed manmukhs die in evil and corruption; they die and are reborn, again and again.

I fail to see the point of this. I wish people would stop saying we don't follow guru sahib's hukam. How do you know everyone doesn't?????? Give people some credit!

I like this thread :@ A really good way to make us understand bani.

Relax peacemaker, make peace with your mind like your name suggests :D

Its funny how we fail to see why this topic was posted instead of how it was posted, it was posted for us to understand the shabad he posted but its sad we fail to see that.

One last thing and I'm just stating my opinion. I don't like the tactics of setting people up to fail. I have no problem with someone writing pages and pages of gurbani on this forum or anywhere else. Maybe I'm coming from left field here, but I honestly didn't like when you call someone an <banned word filter activated> and then ask people to read gurbani.

Can I just ask a very serious question. Why are people always assuming in these preachings that people are not following guru jee? Isn't it better to assume people are following our beloved guru than not? Whatever happened to the benefit of the doubt? I've kind of learned that the people who keep saying they are murakhs, aren't really murakhs at all. It is kind of like an act of humbleness, which I do respect.

Murakhs don't talk like this. I think there is something very odd going with the way people act in sikhi. They say they are one thing to your face, but they know the truth inside. They just want to keep it gupt, which I also respect.

Peacemaker, the reason people like me use the word 'we' in these kinds of topics/situations is because if we say 'I don't follow Hukam, I should listen to this, I forget God' etc then there seem to be too many 'I's - the world doesn't revolve around us and many of our brothers and sisters are in the same boat, going through the same things we are. The way I see it, it's better to hold hands in order to help each other along.

I also understand your point, which you make over and over again in these types of topics : ) But I don't think it is the intention of the OP to say that nobody follows Hukam. Of course there are many gems who do.

If we used 'I', we'd be attacked for making it about us. If we use 'we', we're said to be generalised/judging people. If we use 'you', we're preaching to others but not following ourselves. So choose your pick people! tongue.gif

but I honestly didn't like when you call someone an <banned word filter activated> and then ask people to read gurbani.

You're right, perhaps we shouldn't say things like that to our brothers and sisters. But bear in mind everytime we read a tuk such as "har gun kaahi n gaavehee moorakh agiaanaa", Guru Saheb is saying that to us.

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
    • Giani Kulwant Singh Jawaddi Kalan uses simple Punjabi.
    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
