Sangat jee

This is an "Infotainment" channel which is aimed at the British and Asian communities, particularily, Punjabis and Sikhs.

There will be Sikhi orientated content coming very soon. Some of the largest Sikh websites in particular have joined including RajKaregaKhalsa.net, SikhRoots.com and SikhNet.com, with more local and national organisations and individuals currently in negotiation.

This is a free to air channel to be launched officially in April - a month where Punjabis and Sikhs will be celebrating Vaisakhi around the world.

Interaction will be via website and mobile communications. You will be able to send in videos via logging onto the website (coming soon) and uploading or submitting DVD's, VCD's etc via post, all which will become transparent soon.

In the meantime, please submit your ideas and suggestions in this thread and we will forward the ideas on to the producers.

one idea, is that you can perhaps start broadcasting rehensabhais/ keertan programmes with english translation of the shabbads being sung?

i know sikhroots.com occasionally do online broadcasting, so maybe they can help with this.

also if the SHARECHARITY people could start uploading videos from there weekly gurmat class that would be awesome content too.

regular kirtan programmes, documentaries on sikhism, gatka, sakhis, gurbani veechaar. lots of possibilities :)

a daily hukamnama translation is done on sikhnet.com, so perhaps you could use that too

Europe,

It's good that you are linking up with Sikh websites and trying to get more Sikhi related content. I can understand that for a station to be financially viable then it has to cater to as much of the population as possible. I see no problem with Bhangra songs but as long as there is a set time for the Sikhi content. There's nothing more frustrating than tuning in hoping for some Sikhi inspiration and getting some muppets dancing around to an endless beat of balle balle! The greatest need most Sikh youth would agree is information about Sikhi/Gurbani in English. So something along the lines of the sweet Sikhi programmes on Punjab radio would be a good idea. Maybe the station could start off with a daily Sikhi hour or couple of hours at a time when most Sikh youth would be watching. Sikh content such as the Sikhnet youth online movie competition would make a good start just to get the Sikhi hour going.
