Whats Involve When Taking Amrit?

Recommended Posts

If a person wants to take Amrit, whats involved?

What questions will the panj piareys ask if any?

How should we dress ie 5k's?

What if we dont own a kirpan or kanga?

Do women have to wear a kachera too?

What if the persons husband/wife is not taking Amrit the same time?

What if a person starts crying during the Amrit ceremony?

Is the Amrit Sanskar carried out in front of al the Sangat?

Saadh Sangat jee, what happens in an Amrit Sanchaar sould be kept gupt, its between the 5 Pyaare and the relevant abhlaakhees. The person wishing to take amrit should be ready to give their head to Satguroo Sahib Sri Guroo Granth jee Maharaaj. What the 5 ask is up to the 5 (they can ask you anything they wish, for any reason possible). The abhlaakhee must be wearing his/her 5 kakaar (wooden Kanga; Sarbloh Kara; Sarbloh Kirpaan; revdaar, moriyan+naale vaalaa Kashera and Kes/Keski [depending on the maryada followed]) all of which must be adhered to by Singhs and Kaurs. As mentioned the Amrit Sanchaar is gupt and only those taking amrit (and peshi's) are present at the time. Any other questions (e.g. husband/wife not taking amrit etc) please ask the 5 infront of Guroo Sahib as no one person can give this information. Many of the replys above state information that should have been kept gupt, however basic the statements may seem.

Saying any of this, please forgive any offence I may have caused.

I was asked "tusi kis tra aaye ho?", and they meant "Why have you come here?" to which you are supposed to respond "Amrit di daat praapat karan". I was mega nervous and thought they asked "How have you come", and almost was going to say "truck vich" blush.gif . Thank God I didn't! :)

So it seems what I said about what happens in an Amrit Sanchaar being gupt has gone unoticed. Why don't we all share what happened when we all took amrit on the internet. Oh, we have already been doing that!

Not all of it needs to be kept gupt, although some parts are better kept gupt. I asked people what happens, otherwise who knows I may have actually said what I didn't say. Its good to give advice beforehand rather than do something that may not be appropriate.
