Converts To Sikhi...

Recommended Posts

This topic is dedicated to the converts to Sikhi, who fought for Sikhi and were martyred for it.

There are many cases of Hindus and even Muslims who converted to Sikhi and fought for our rights, be it during Mughal Raj, British Raj or Mahasha Raj.

I will mainly post about converts during Mahasha Raj. Maybe you have already heard about some...

Most famous example is that of Shaheed Lachhman Singh Babbar, previously Bashir Mohammad. He became Sikh. He was martyred with his wife who was pregnant with a child in a encounter in 1993.

Another famous convert was Pandit Roshan Lal Bairagi. I am not sure what new name he got after he became a Sikh but Roshan Lal too, like Bhai Lachhman Singh was quite well known in Sikh Kharkoo circles. Roshan Lal Bairagi along with his wife, who was a very active member of AISSF were martyred in a false encounter. He was a Hindu before converting to Sikhi.

Another case was of 7 brothers born in a Sharma (Hindu Brahmin) family in Patiala. All 7 took Amrit, became Babbars and attained Shaheedi for the panth.

Other converts were Vishnu Dev who became Bhai Bakshish Singh Kaljug, Bhai Mohar Singh Pandit and his whole family (his daughters were the young girls who strapped bombs to themselves and stopped the tanks in June 1984) and Bhai Jarmanjit Singh Chherta.

And there is even mention of a Christian converting to Sikhism and becoming Shaheed. This was Khuram Masih who became Manjit Singh alias Kala alias Akaal. He was martyred by the police during an encounter at village Dablehar in the RS Pura Sector of Jammu on December 28, 2000. He was a commander of Khalistan Zindabad Force.

SUNNYBONDSINGH,

You have some really nice and inspirational topics. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. This is a really nice topic for people who think nobody embraces Sikhism. Actually, this panth will always be in chardi kalaa.

Anyways, my additions to the list are Bhai Mati Das, and Bhai Sati Das during the times of Guru Tej Bahadaur Sahib who were converts to the Sikh religion, and were full fledged Gursikhs who also became Shaheed for refusing to convert to Islam.

thx bro

Another famous convert is the head of the first Sikh Kingdom, Baba Banda Singh Ji Bahadur. Previously known as Madho Das, he was bhought into Sikhism by Guru Gobind Singh ji and received amrit at their hands. Guru ji sent him to the north, to punish the evil nawab of Sirhind. Guru ji gave him 5 Singhs and 5 arrows. He turned those 5 Singhs into an army and conquered much of the present day Haryana.
