I downloaded some files that were r00, r01, r02 ... r087.

The file name for example is flt-wic.001 and I thought I was suppose to rename them from flt-wic.001 to flt-wic.001.RAR so I did, and now my system sees the files as rar or archived files, when they're suppose to be r00 file type.

How do I change the file names back to what they originally were? I CTRL +Z'd like 10 of them, but there are still several that need to be changed back to the original file type. Help!!

Well, keep on doing the ctrl+z and to open them there should be a file with no numbers at the end or the 00 file and use winrar to unzip it, it should unzip all, recompile them all as one active file... seriously you shouldn't download ilegally...lol

The problem is that you likely renamed all the files to the RAR type which hid the filetype. What you do is open up the folder that they are in (or any folder), goto Tools --> Folder options (If you are using vista, press the Alt Key to see the menu).

Under view/advanced options (one of the tabs above) there is a checkbox for "hide extentions for known file types". Unselect this box and hit ok. You should be able to see all of the extentions to change them back to the way they were by selecting each file and pressing F2 (or rename). You can go back and select the check box when you are done.
