Having Kesh Ishnan At Amrtvela

lol, peacemaker, its not a concept, if a sikh cannot even affirm that their guroo is here and alive with them, treating Guroo Sahib on the level of a book, then I dont know what to say.

But how do you know TheVampire feels that way? I said mistakes do happen. I'm not going to speak on his behalf anymore.

sorry to go off topic, but vampire, just wondering, why would you address a living person with "the" and how can someone alive be "a rehit maryada"?

Just think about it?

I try to live my life according to the teachings of The Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Nothing else matters to me.

But we are going off topic.

do you call Guroo Gobind Singh Ji "the" Guroo Gobind Singh Ji? why the "the" with Guroo Granth Sahib Ji, is Guroo Sahib an object?

Start a new thread. No more on this here, please.

sarbat da bhalla

What's important whether you use words like it or the or whether you follow the teachings of THE Guru's.?

If Guru Nanak, for example, was not blessed with his teachings. He would have been an ordinary human being. It was his teachings that made him a Guru - not his outwardly form.

Same as the Guru Granth Sahib Ji - it is not the outwardly appearnace that i am bothered with - but the teachings of the Guru Granth.

One may consider it a book, a human, a living book or a living human or whatever.

It is the shabads that make the Granth Sahib Ji special - just like it was the shabads that made Guru Nanak special.

I won't be wasting my time commenting on this further as we have gone off topic.

fateh sangat ji, is having a keshi ishnan at amritvela a rehit or are their any hukhamnameh for having one, Iv looked at damdami taksal rehit online and there is no mention, can anyone do some seva and shed some light??

also is their a specific time for ishnaan like before nitnem or after any one kind enough to giv daas some gian??

Its like sayin is there a rehitnama for sayin you must wash both arms for ur ishnaan, or can u just wash one :6

Hair is part of u, just like u wash the hair on ur legs and arms, u wash the hair on your head. Just because its longer, it dont matta. Full ishnaan including washing of the kesh should be done everyday.

Ishnaan should take place as soon as one wakes up, then seated naam simran and nitnem should be done.

Gurfateh jee

gurfateh

yes hair is part of you but its called kesh and hair on your legs and arms is called rom.

rom rom mih bsih murwir ]

rom rom mehi basehi muraar ||

and on each and every hair, the Lord abides

gur kae charan kaes sa(n)g jhaarae ||1||

with my hair, I dust the feet of the Guru. ||1||

so lol there is a difference there, that's why bani gives them different names.

but having ishnaan everyday is bad for kesh. are't we supposed to look after our kesh hence why guru ji has given us a dastar. another thing is, i know of some people who have a keshi ishnaan everyday but i cant really say that their hair is healthy, cus for some of them their hair has gone thinner. also because the dont allow their hair to dry properly they scalp is in a bad condition. we could argue if we let our hair properly dry then their would be a problem. But what about the hair getting thinner and loosing hair. Just one of the problems from washing ur hair everyday.

but if this bride is not pleasing to her Husband Lord, then all these trappings are false.

hair should only get unhealthy if you use shampoo too much, if you use shampoo once a week and just use water for the other days your hair will be fine. importnt to use good quality oil aswell.

i dont think rom only refers to body hair and not hair on head. cutting the hair on your head and on your body is an equal bujjer kurehit. kesh=rom

all people i have done sangat with do keshi ishnaan at a.vela and they come from many jathas, so i think its generally an accepted rehit given at most amrit sanchars.

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
