Im writing this post on the behalf of somebody else (a friend)'s question

qy8ug7.jpg

This are his questions: "what relation does this pic jhave with sikhi and is it wrong or right to hang a photo of thisin house?"

I think that this is a Hindu mythological story which is mentioned in Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj... But further the only Hindu book i have knowledge on is Mahabharat... <_<

So someone please answer my friends question..

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

The shabad for the picture is:

This Shabad is by Bhagat Kabeer Ji in Raag Basant on Pannaa 1194

Prahlaad was sent to school.

He took many of his friends along with him.

He asked his teacher, ""Why do you teach me about worldly affairs?

Write the Name of the Dear Lord on my tablet.""||1||

O Baba, I will not forsake the Name of the Lord.

I will not bother with any other lessons. ||1||Pause||

Sanda and Marka went to the king to complain.

He sent for Prahlaad to come at once.

He said to him, ""Stop uttering the Lord's Name.

I shall release you at once, if you obey my words.""||2||

Prahlaad answered, ""Why do you annoy me, over and over again?

God created the water, land, hills and mountains.

I shall not forsake the One Lord; if I did, I would be going against my Guru.

You might as well throw me into the fire and kill me.""||3||

The king became angry and drew his sword.

"Show me your protector now!"

So God emerged out of the pillar, and assumed a mighty form.

He killed Harnaakhash, tearing him apart with his nails. ||4||

The Supreme Lord God, the Divinity of the divine,

for the sake of His devotee, assumed the form of the man-lion.

Says Kabeer, no one can know the Lord's limits.

He saves His devotees like Prahlaad over and over again. ||5||4||

Its relevance to Sikhi is your own interpetation of the Shabad.

To me it symbolises how no one is can cheat Maharaj, Harnakash tried and failed.

He had done so much bhagati that maharaj blessed him with rewards beyond imagination. He asked to be invincible but then this would give him the same power as Akaal Purakh so maharaj said no. Harnakash requested he could not be killed by any of the following..

Man

Beast

In Air

On Ground

inside / outside

Maharaj blessed him with all these as per the request. This gave Harnakash Haumai and then made other worship him.

Prahlaad was also a bhagat, he was only a child but would only focus on Raam (God) and no other. Because of this, it angered Harnakash so he wanted to punish the child.

He called Prahlaad to his darbar and ordered him to be tied to a pillar which was to be set on fire if he refused to worship Harnakash. Prahlaad stayed true to his belief and refused. When walking to the pillar which was now on fire... He noticed a small ant walking on it. He thought if Maharaj could save such a small creature, surely he would protect his devotee.

Prahlaad runs to the pillar and jumps to hug it. From the Pillar appears Narsingha - the creature in the picture. He was half man / half beast.

He takes Harnakash and places him on his knee and kills him and killed him in the doorway.

He was not killed by Man OR beast as Narsingha was a mix of both.

He was not killed on the ground or in the air as it was on the knee of Narsingha

He was not killed indoors / outdoors as it was in the doorway

As mentioned. How you interpret the shabad is up to you. My understanding is, you cannot beat maharaj, he is the supreme. Always stay true to your belief and never forget maharaj under any circumstance, work, study etc.

Hope that helps someone understand the picture better for those who did not know the story behind the picture.

I apologise if i have made any mistakes while writing it back...

As for is it right to have the picture in your house?

This is up to you. I think its a kool pic and had it as my desktop background for ages. Just dont start worshiping it if your Sikh!

According to Gurbani it was Guru Ram Dass who saved Bhagat Prahlad

Suthar cẖiṯ bẖagaṯ hiṯ bẖekẖ ḏẖari▫o harnākẖas hari▫o nakẖ biḏār jī▫o.

For the sake of the pure-hearted devotee Prahlaad, You took the form of the man-lion, to tear apart and destroy Harnaakhash with your claws.

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
