PLEASE HELP

WHAT IS THE EXACT TIME OF GURUNANAKDEV JI'S PARGAT HONA/AVTAAR DIVAS? EVERYONE SAYS ITS KATIK KI POORANMASHI AT 00.30HRS. BEARING IN MIND THAT THE DAY CHANGES TO THE NEXT DAY AT 00.00 HOURS, THAT WOULD MEAN THAT IT IS TONIGHT 30 MINUTES PAST MIDNIGHT (I LIVE IN THE UK)

What is the exact time of Guru Nanak Dev ji’s birth !!!

Some of the posters here say it is 00.30 HRS, others say it is 00.21 HRS or 00.25 HRS ( in the morning - just after midnight ). How were they able to describe it so accurately, and what is the point /need to describe it so accurately?

There were no clocks of the type that we have now that can describe minutes and seconds. There were no mechanical clocks in India those days. Time (approximate times) was estimated by observing the approximate positions of Moon ( when the Moon was in the sky), position of stars on dark nights, and by the position of the Sun during the day. So, variations of one or two hours would not be uncommon in those days. The variation would be even greater on cloudy days. I don’t see how people could come to distinguish between 00.21 HRS and 00.30 HRS under those conditions.

In the Janam Pattri s (Birth Charts describing the time of birth) only the positions of Sun, Moon were described to be in certain quadrants and approximate alignments of star constellations. No exact time (as we do now) used to be recorded. This type of information was recorded by the chart makers hours, sometime a day or so after the actual event. To complicate it further, the time of the event was guessed by the Chart makers from what was told by the person describing the event hours (or sometimes days) after the event. For example- information about a birth taking place about midnight will not be described to the Carte maker or to the person who has the skill to calculate the time. Take an other example; "Amrit Vella " is not described as exact time. It is described as a period of time that is one to three hours before the sunrise.
