Sheesha contains small amounts of tobacco.

Using tobacco is one of the 4 bajjar kurehats ... by using it one is no longer classed as a sikh and becomes apostate.

Tobacco has been called 'JAGAT JOOTH' , (Filth of the World) by our Guru's, that is how dirty it is seen as in Sikhism.

Gurbani says those who smoke tobacco are thrown around and beaten by the jamdoot (angels of death). "......mukh beeReeyaa laeeyaa, sey har har kadey naa chetiyo jam pakaR chalaeeya..."

Hope that helps. Thanks.

Gurbani does mention 'beerian' - cigarettes, and they are prohibited. In fact smoking anything is not allowed and Hookah is specifically mentioned by Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

It's a huge insult to Guru Sahib for a Sikh to event think of using a hookah or tobacco for that matter.

smoking is not cool. think about ur father bro. who gave up everything for us, and here we are smoking away his sikhi. put urself in his position, and tell me how u would feel if u gave ur everything for someone. all ur love, all ur property, all ur family, everything u owned, you give it to someone, and yet that person still didnt think about wat u had to go through. that person still doenst appreciate ur effort. isnt that a big shame on us? come on now, u can do better then that bro. we are supposed to be maharaj's SINGHS!!!!!!!

Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was once riding with his Sikhs when he suddenly stopped his horse and after dismounting proceeded to rip out a wild tobacco plant. The Sikhs asked why the Guru had ripped the plant out and the Guru replied that the Sikhs should avoid alcohol as it destroys a generation but tobacco destroys several generations. The Guru then forbade his Sikhs to ever use tobacco.

Early European writers who came across the Sikhs in the 1780's were perplexed as to why tobacco was forbidden for the Sikhs as tobacco was being widely used by both the British and the Indians at that time. Of all the Nations that the Europeans came into contact with the Sikhs were the only one who had a religious injection against tobacco.

Only in 1950 when Morton Levin published his study into the connection between lung cancer and smoking did any governments take notice. According to the World Health Organization report of 1995 worldwide lung cancer is the biggest single cause of cancer deaths in men. Smoking causes approximately 3 million deaths worldwide and if current trends persist it will kill 10 million a year from 2020. Smoking causes about 20.5% of all deaths in developed countries. These are frightening statistics but the biggest tragedy is that smoking is the single largest preventable factor in premature death, disability and disease. These effects of smoking are not limited to the smokers themselves but to those around them. Family, friends and even complete strangers in the smoker's vacinity suffer. Smoking while pregnant has been linked to sudden infant death syndrome (cot death), bronchitis, pneumonia and higher risk of miscarriage (The Guru had said that tobacco would destroy several generations)

yes, there is a shabad in sri dasam granth sahib that mentions the exact word "hookah". its in the asphotak kabit, which is at the end of sri dasam granth. im not sure how the words go, it is somethign like this, "hookah hajamat halalo haram......." like maharaj is talking about the signs of sikhi and those things that are forbidden for a sikh. i can prolly find the exact wording and post the shabad, gimme a day or two.

sheesha is even worse then smoking, you lungs are taking in moreeeee smoke then you would take from a cigarette, i was telling my friend about this a while back

''According to the French anti-tobacco agency (OFT), a report from the French national laboratory revealed that smoking shisha gives off as much carbon monoxide as 15 to 52 cigarettes and as much tar as 27 to 102 cigarettes.''

''According to Professor Bertrand Dautzenberg, a respiratory tract specialist, a 45-minute session of shisha corresponds to smoking 40 cigarettes.''

''Shisha’s multifaceted damage extends to the transmission of highly contagious and infectious diseases such as herpes, hepatitis, tuberculosis, and more through its mouthpiece, or nozzle, which circulates around the table from mouth to mouth.''
