Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Member of Parliament from Bhatinda Thursday led the strong protest by the M.P.’s of Shiromani Akali Dal, BJP and other political parties against the formation of separate Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee in Haryana in the Parliament House.

She also urged the Speaker to "intervene effectively to stall the Congress party's highly ill-advised and ill-conceived move of setting up a separate Gurdwara panel" in Haryana.

Naresh Gujral, Mrs. Paramjeet Kaur Gulshan, Raj Mohinder Singh Majithia, Varinder Singh Bajwa,(all MP’s of SAD) took active participation and strongly opposed the move of the Government to form separate Gurudwara Committee for Haryana.

Badal also strongly protested and apprised the Speaker about the proposed ill conceived and ill mooted move of the Haryana Government to form a separate Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to manage the Sikh Shrines in Haryana and sought her personal intervention to stop the Haryana Government from taking any such anti-Sikh decisions. Mrs. Badal informed the Speaker that the reported move was not only fundamentally flawed in religio-political perspective but was also bad in law, precedent and practice. Besides, this was a clear cut violation of the time –honored pact between Master Tara Singh, as leader of the Sikh community and Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru as Prime Minister of India on April 8, 1959 Referring to clause 3 of the historic pact known as Nehru Tara Singh Pact; "Any amendments in the Gurdwara Act should only be undertaken after obtaining the approval of General Committee (House) of the SGPC. A convention may be established that such approval may be by two thirds majority of the SGPC.

Demanding the immediate stop of the move of the Haryana Government to for the separate Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee in Haryana Mrs.Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that the Sikhs were deeply hurt and anguished by this callous decision and unwarranted interference of the Haryana Government in our religious affairs of the Sikhs. Detailing the history of the Sikhs sacrifices for it Mrs. Badal said that the brave sacrifices of hundred of Sikhs community, who laid down their lives to gain control of these Sikhs shrines for the SGPC, be wiped out so that government can brighten their chances of a few extra votes?

While protesting in the Parliament House Mr. Ratan Singh Ajnala MP Shiromani Akali Dal the Sikh community has always fought for the cause of our country and made brave sacrifices. Even during the Freedom Movement, in spite of us being only 2% of the population, the Punjabis contributed 80% of those jailed the struggle to make India Independent.

Citing the historical references of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Ajnala said that hundreds of brave Sikhs sacrificed their lives to make this cause a reality. In the famous Jaito Marcha, Pandit Nehru courted arrest alongside the Akalis in this battle to bring control of Sikh Shrines into the hand of the Sikh Community. A battle, which was perhaps the Ist victory in the history of India ’s Freedom Struggle where finally in 1925 the Sikhs won the agitation and an Act, was passed to form the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), a governing body to control the affairs of Sikh community and control of the Sikh Shrines.

Badal also appealed to the Speaker for her personal intervention to the Government not to hurt the sentiments of this brave & patriotic community and provoke us to lead and agitation against this attaches to weaken the SGPC which was the highest religious body of the Sikh Community.

i support hsgpc too. What has ms badal done for panth to decide on fate of panth? her ancestor was a well known tattu of the british and by political alliance she has been 'heaped' upon 'sikhs'! present akali dal is not what it was during singh sabha movement. there is a lot of change in it's character, constitution and composition. frankly, sikhs are without a true religious party at the moment. haryana sikhs needs their own management committee. sgpc is a mahant in haryana right now. burn it.

Waheguru jee ka khalsa Waheguru jee kee fateh,

My 2 cents...

This all things is nothing related to panth or sikhi. Its just pure money and control of gurudwaras management and greed.

The HSGPC is no better then badal and falls in same category of mahant. Badal, SGPC and HSGPC are all same things with different wrapers.

But it is always good to have a single body for sikhs and if it is corrupt, improve on it. If we today make HSGPC tommorrow there will be Rajasthan SGPC, Guajarat SGPC, Maharashtra SGPC and what not and all will function on their own with no regards of sikhi or Akal thakht saheb.

So just chill and see what happens. I will pray that there is only one sikhi body and if it is corrupt, try and clear the corruption.

Bhul Chuk Maaf

I think this is a complex subject. It is not simple plain white & black. Let take a analogy, Akalis demand Anandpur resolution. Ie they want more power in state from centre

They should at least follow same in practice of what they ask. More power should be in local region to decide everyday working of Gurdwara. No point in blaming haryana congress. Politician are after votes. If local Sikhs whose votes matter in assembly election demand a separate HSGPC, it is because they have seen the result of

Delhi SPGC(sarna) success. The current SGPC control area is Punjab, harayana, himachal & chandigarh. It is certianly not good idea to break it. But at least more power should be given at local region level , with control still remain in amritsar

The HGPC is much needed. There are countless historic Gurdwara in Haryana which have never had much spent on them by the SGPC. Same goes for the Sikh in Haryana, no educational institutes or anything from the SGPC. I will go even further the SGPC are the main reason for the rise of the sirsa pakhandi in the malwa area. The area is very much neglected and this has impacted on the local sangat who then rush to alternatives.
