why do so many sikhs in the world fail to defend themselves or fight back when insulted, especially when it comes to muslims

why are so many sikhs so soft now a days and just take crap

and how many of you have no problem standing up and fighting back when ppl try attacking you and your sikhi

I think the answer lies in education. Education about your own faith and the other faiths. Scholars like Kapur Singh who wrote PARASARAPRASNA ,or Puran Singh in Spirit of the Sikh , could stand up and show the differences between the theology of Sikhism vis a vis other religions like Buddhism,Hinduism , Islam etc, and show the superiority of Sikhism, could do so, because they researched into comparative religion. Its when your own Sikhi is in ''dhendi kela'' and you are dwindling away in your faith ,and not bothering to be well read in Sikhi and also have some understanding of other faiths ,and .... how Sikhi is far better, that you are a vulnerable target.

If you get up at Amritvela , do lots of simran, nitnem ,and stay focussed on Sikhi , have taken ,are taking amrit , and getting into gurbani, keertan and sikhi values and morals and principals , Gurujee's power and light will shine on you ,and your forehead and body and life . As Gurbani says ''noor arsoh korsoh jhetieh'. You will look like a lion/lioness shining in radiance and confidence , walking with a straight back ,big smile on yoiur face , whilst at the same time your face makes bad and evil ppl fear you wen u stare at them . When ppl talk to you ,you dont talk like a coward but a lion ,loud and clear and it frightens ppl trying to intimade you and makes them think twice of approaching you . And because you are full of Gurmat and Guru-gyan , and wisdom and Gurujee gives you the power to see thru things and be super-intelligent ,hence they lose to you very fast . Never turn your back to your enemy ,face them direct . Gurujee is with you!

And of cos , every Sikh naujawan ,guy or girl HAS to know self defence . Thats not an option . In today's world ,thats compulsory .

lol You are a funny guy! mai ta ik shota jeha banda and I'm not being humble here, it is the truth.

I do want to learn some form of martial arts but the clubs are quite expensive, combine that with a gym membership it gets quite expensive. Additionally, lifting weights does make me sore so I doubt I'll be able to do both at the same time anyway. Maybe in the future I will loose interst in weights and join a Muy Thai club instead.

I personally think you need 2 things to be able to combat. 1 is "jigra", which means guts or courage, and thats what you need to do if you are going to strike first. If you are the one who has been attacked and want to respond, then you need the 2nd thing, which is "junoon", or craziness to make sure the attacker doesn't go back in one piece. Martial arts adds onto your assets and qualifications to make sure you can defend yourself. If you don't have jigra, anyone can bully you and get away without you slapping them. If you don't have junoon, you'll get thrashed and will sit and cry. One needs both.

Please correct me if I am wrong

I'm new here so please forgive me if i make any mistakes

Personally I used consider myself a Lion before before I came in to sikhi 4 years ago. Back when I was a chickhen I thought that being a sikh, punjabi and jatt were the toughest people around. But back in my school days sikhs got bullied real bad including me sometimes. As I got older I came closer with sikhi and I'm defending myself more often rather then crying or walking away. Like humkaire has said education can be the backbone for the sikh youth, it was certainly for me. I fear nothing as the son of guru gobind singh ji.

Keeping Kes, proudly wearing a dastar and walking around in sabat soorat is the first step to standing up for Sikhi. The second step is having sabar shakti and the bibek to know what is a cause worth standing for and what is simply a playground fight.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
