Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Soon its going to be 1 year since a family member has passed away. Most people hold akhand paath's for the deceased's soul,i think? When should these be held,some people say they should be a month before the actual date the person passed away? Is there anything else that should be done,i know nothing about the usual sikh protocol on these things.

Traditionally, our community keep akhand paat nearby 11ish month (not exact in dates but nearby). I think that is pretty much of the huge sewa in holding akhand paat in the memory of your family member who passed away. During the samapati of Bhog, ardas should be made with references made to the deceased soul.. I think the granthi singh probably guide you the whole way.

If it is not feasible to hold the akhand paat (due to location etc) then let us know and sangat can give you other way to honor the deceased soul sikhi way.
