Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, sixth Guru of the Sikhs

Bhai Gurdas Ji, a great scholar of the Sikh Faith praises Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji in one of his vaars:

"The Five Gurus, namely, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Angad Dev Ji, Guru Amardass Ji, Guru Ramdass Ji, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, were full of truth, contentment, compassion, righteousness and patience.

The sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji was a Great Guru. Guru Arjan Dev Ji passed on his light into the body of Hargobind Ji and thus the dynasty of the Sodhis flourished.

The Great warrior Guru became the punisher of the tyrants and was both fearless and benevolent."

Varan Bhai Gurdass Ji.

Guru Hargobind, the sixth Guru of the Sikhs was born to Guru Arjan Dev Ji and Mata Ganga Ji on 19th June 1595 at Guru Ki Vadali, Sri Amritsar. The holy congregation thanked the almighty God for his benevolent gift.

When the apostle of peace, Guru Arjan Dev Ji was martyred on 30th May 1606 at Lahore , Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji succeeded his father and became the sixth spiritual master of the Sikhs. Before Guru Arjan Dev Ji left for martyrdom, He instructed Guru Hargobind Ji thus ," Protection of the faith now lay in the wearing of arms until the tyrant is completely uprooted".

Baba Buddha Ji adorned Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji with two swords, one representing spiritualism and the other representing temporal authority.Guru Sahib thus combined saintliness with the concept of a warrior and hence the concept of a saint soldier was introduced to the Sikh faith. Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji adorned himself in the clothing of a saint warrior.

After Guru Hargobind Jis ascension to the throne of Guru Nanak, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji requested that sikh devotees presented good weapons together with a willingness to sacrofice their lives for the cause of the Guru. Guru Ji encouraged wrestling, fencing, hunting of wild animals, horse riding amongst the Sikhs. Guru Ji stressed that exhibiting weakness was a sin.

Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji got constructed a throne of the timeless God,Akal purakh opposite the Sri Harimandar Sahib, Sri Amritsar and this was named the Akal Takhat or throne of immortality. The construction of the Akal Takhat was a direct challenge to the tyrannic mughal authorities of Delhi. Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji would sit on the Akal Takhat and administer justice to the common people. Thus Guru Ji becme popularly known as the True King or Sacha Paatshaah.. Guru Ji addressed many hukamnamas to his devottees from the Akal Takhat. Guru Ji wrote vaars or ballads of heroic praise to be accompanied by the dhadh and saranghi. Guru Ji employed two muslim bards Natha And Abdullah to sing heroic bards whilst standing at the entrance to the Akal Takhat in order to infuse heroic spirit into the Sikh congregations.

Whoever gets blessed vision of the deeds document is said to be protected by shaheedi pehra and all other wishes are fulfilled. The headquarters of the Taruna Dal is based at Baba Bakala JI. The first Jathedar of Taruna Dal was Brahmgiani Baba Gurmukh Singh Ji based at Guru Hargobind Sahib Gurdwara, Baba Bakala. He was succeeded by Brahmgiani Baba Sadhu Singh Taruna Dal, then by Brahmgiani Baba Bishan Singh Ji Taruna Dal.Baba Bishan Singh Ji did seva for 65 years whilst Baba Kahan Singh ji was the vice Jathedar. Everyone is welcome to visit and devotees are baptised with amrit by the Jathedar. The Nihungs live by a strict code of discipline as ordained by the tenth King, Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

The Jathedar and nihung Sikhs are celibate.

Women are not allowed into the langar, nor are they allowed to read from Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Women are not allowed into the langar, nor are they allowed to read from Guru Granth Sahib Ji?

The above statement doesnt seem according to gurmat. Guru Sahib Jee would never stop any gursikh regardless of gender to serve in the langar. If we look at Gurbanee the Gurus Word, Mata Khivee Jee did seva in the langar, during the period of 5 Guru Sahibans. She is even mentioned in Gurbanee of Satguru Granth Sahib Jee in Ramakalee Kee Vaar. Her seva in the Langar is so sweet when one eats the langar it is like Amrit Rass.

How is one suppose to make there jeevan safal if they are not allowed to read Gurbanee from a Saroop?

If Guru Sahibs eyes we are all women as we are referred to as a Sohangnee which means wife, and Vaheguroo is the husband the beloved that we should have pyaas to meet. So there should be no need for gender discrimination.

The Jathedar and nihung Sikhs are celibate?

The Guroo Sahibans got married and had children, they did this to show us how to live and act according to Gurmat. If the whole panth goes celibate, then how will it grow. How will more laadlee-faujees be born?

Yes, ypu are right,

In sri GURU GRANTH Saheb ji there is reference that Mata KHIVI JI (Wife of Guru ANGAD DEV JI )

herself was making langar and distributing Langar amongst Sangat :-

Balavandd kheevee naek jan jis bahuthee shhaao pathraalee ||

Balwand says that Khivi, the Guru's wife, is a noble woman, who gives soothing, leafy shade to all.

Langar dhoulath vanddeeai ras anmrith kheer ghiaalee ||

She distributes the bounty of the Guru's Langar; the kheer - the rice pudding and ghee, is like sweet ambrosia.

Gurasikhaa kae mukh oujalae manamukh thheeeae paraalee ||

The faces of the Guru's Sikhs are radiant and bright; the self-willed manmukhs are pale, like straw.

Pae kabool khasanm naal jaan ghaal maradhee ghaalee ||

The Master gave His approval, when Angad exerted Himself heroically.

Maata kheevee sahu soe jin goe outhaalee ||3||

Such is the Husband of mother Khivi; He sustains the world. ||3||

Vaar Raamkalee Balvand and Sata (at ang 967 Sri Guru Granth Saheb ji )

Bhul chuk khima

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki Fateh
