i was just reading this story in the vancouver sun today that this hindu student going into grade 7 isnt allowed to be at khalsa school because he doesnt have a turban and having a turban is mandatory for grade 7-10 in that school. his dad was complaining cause he claims his son only gets his work done at this school. do u agree he should be kicked out?

admin note: bhainjee, next time please post messages like this in the news forum, thanks  -8

Sat Sri Akal:

There is some information here:

http://www.canada.com/search/story.html?id...d2-85fe385a1fc1

If someone can post the full details of the news story, it would be greatly appreciated.

I am now torn between two opinions. One is how if you enrolled in a Christian school, would you want the administration telling you to cut your hair and wear a cross? I surely would not.

However, the second thing is the policy of the school, the uniform of the school explicitly states that a turban is required for boys entering the seventh grade. To that extent, it is a contract between the school and the parents. The parents should have known what they were getting into. (You can see that here: http://www.khalsaschool.ca/otherinfo/ - under the Other Information).

So confused...

Vaheguroo jee ka khalsa Vaheguroo jee kee fateh!!!

i don't think they should kick him out...yes it is part of the uniform for boys in grades 7-10 to have a dastaar... but you cant just change a kid overnight and make him start wearing a dastaar just like that... they shouldnt deny him the privilege of being in khalsa school just because he's a boy and doesnt wear a dastaar..

hopefully with the atmosphere of khalsa school, he might slowly start to get into sikhi, but we cant force anything upon anyone.

WJKK WJKF!

well i go to khalsa school right noww and we got pretty strict rules for uniform even for girls.. all the boys gotta wear a turban because thats apart of the uniform and at ks if u dont wear one not even like for a period of schoo u get a behaviour report which would be a letter to parent and a report that goes on ur permanent letter and we've had some hindu students here before none of them were rejected from ks but noww since ks has 2 gore principles and onli 1 sikh principle who knows wuts happening...

i remember when several years back, my parents tried to put my younger brother into some christian school, they said he had to cut his hair and stuff. we respected that cuz it was a christian school and those are their beliefs/rules. this is khalsa school and if someone of another religion wants to join then it would only make sense for them to respect the religion and the rules that follow for attending the school. just my opinion.

i agree we shouldnt force upon athing on anyone but uniforms are meant to be uniforms right.. from the place i come from from grade 1-grade 11 we are required to use uniforms to school and nothing can change the uniforms... its sorta a discipline thingy..

Well I can see both sides of this one...

I suppose it does defeat the purpose of the Khalsa school to allow exceptions to those who DON'T WANT to wear a pagh. If it were religious, then that's ok. But if it is purely a choice issue, then you should have to wear one.

For example, if a muslim girl wanted to go there and wear a head-scarf instead, that should be OK because a pagh would go against her relgious beliefs. But barring that, everyone should follow the uniform.
