To allegedly prevent the leaders and supporters of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) from participating in the state-level function, organised today at Sirhind (Fatehgarh Sahib) to mark the tercentenary celebrations of Sirhind Fateh Divas, the police reportedly raided their houses today in some parts of the district.

The district police reportedly raided about 10 houses/premises of the SAD (A) leaders and supporters today at Bathinda, Talwandi Sabo, Ballianwali village and Malkana village, but no one could be nabbed by it, as they were not found available at their respective houses/premises.

Talking to The Tribune over the phone, national president of the youth wing of the SAD (A) Barinder Singh Mann said the police raided their houses to arrest them as a preventive measure so that they could not reach the venue of the state-level function at Sirhind today. He said the police raided their houses at different places that includes houses at Bathinda and Ballianwali village.

Mann said the police raided his house, local unit president of the party Ranjit Singh, president of local unit of youth wing of the party Jaswant Singh at Bathinda, district president of the party Parminder Singh at Ballianwali village and Bikar Singh at Malkana village.

With regard to the details, regarding the police raids on the houses of leaders of the SAD (A), the Bathinda SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill said no arrests had been made.

Barinder Singh Mann also said he would move the Punjab State Human Rights Commission on Monday or Tuesday against the raids on their houses and harassment to them by the police without any provocation from their side.

Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) is a faction of the Akali Dal headed by Simranjit Singh Mann. Mr Mann was tortured in the 1980's for his views and support of the Khalistan Movement.

This party is quite vocal in regards to Panthic issues and especially in regards to Sikh self-determination. It is my understanding that it is this viewpoint that often keeps them at odds with the government.

Mann is stupid in my opinion. Badal used to let him speak on SGPC stages but then he started bashing Badal on the stages provided by Badal !! No wonder he no longer can use 'official' stages. However it is tragedy of Sikhs that while Anti-Sikh organisations are allowed to speak on such 'official' events and rub salts on Sikhs wounds like BJP president describing Banda as Veer Banda Bairagi (implying he wasnt Amrit Chakk Singh ) but Sikhs themselves are not allowed to participate. After death of Badal there would be chaos in Sikh affairs as everything has become too much centralised. Politics has always dominated religion in Sikhi and is cause of downfall in general character of Sikhs as a whole. No wonder to an outsider Sikhism appears as a house divided against itself.

That is why Simran jit singh is doing harm than good. He wishes well but his action had been wrong and detrimental to the cause. We need new leadership to propagate the agenda. Economic non-coperation with central govt. can achieve whatever we want. In today's world direct confrontation is not going to take you far.

Have good far-sighted leaders to achieve the target. I hope Mr. Mann reads this!
