This Shabad is actually PRAISE OF VAHEGURU who created the beautiful child form of Krishna. Vaheguru sent Krishna to this earth, gave him powers, made him kill kans, made him save sudaama, bidar and ugraisain.

Lets leave Krishan for a moment and lets take the example of Ragi Darshan.

Ragi Darshan did some good katha during the 80's. Many sikhs were inspired by his katha and chakked amrit and started doing bhagti. Kehar Singh and Beant Singh listened to the katha of Ragi Darshan and Beant Singh got motivated to send Evil Indira Gandhi to hell.

It was the power of Guru (Vaheguru) working that made Ragi Darshan do the katha those days.

But we all know how Ragi Darshan in the present times has sold out to GOI, how he did nindiya of Dashmesh Pita and has been excommunicated and isolated by the Panth.

Same way, Krishan had the power of God working through him when he did good things. But at some point in his life, he got egoistic, started have illicit relations with Gopis, made people worship him and finally DROWNED in the world ocean. (same as how Ragi Darshan will drown)

SWAYYA

All the them came out of water, concealing their secret parts with their hands; they fell at the feet of Krishna and requested him in various ways;

And asked him to return the stolen clothes; "We have said, whatever was in our mind; give us the clothes quickly, we are shivering with cold."265.

Speech of Krishna:

SWAYYA

Krishna said, "See, whatever I shall say now, all of you will have to accept that; let me kiss the faces of all; I shall kiss and you count, all of you;

Let me touch the nipple of your breasts, otherwise I shall behave more badly with you; I am speaking truth that I shall give you the clothes only after doing all this."266.

SWAYYA

Krishna said again, "Listen to one thing of mine and bow before me with folded hands because all of you abide now in my heart like the supernatural powers of the god of love;

I have said this to all of you for doing it, seeing the proper occasion and solitude for it; my heart has become satisfied on seeing you and receiving the donation of beauty from all of you."267.

Harinder Singh if you are getting excited by this do not take a peek at the Charittars your mind will explode!

I have read charittars. They all give moral lesson. Even Krishan's lust with gopis gives the lesson that Krishan was not God but a conscious creation of God who was subject to maya and 5 demons. He did good things and bad things.

i need a bit more explanation on the shabad dhan dhan o ram ben bajey.

I have been thinking of posting same shabad and ask for explanation for long time but then I listened to the katha of this shabad by Gyani Thakur Singh ji but Gyani ji just did literal translation. Can anyone make it more clear how Waheguru ji are praised and not krishan. even krishan's mother is called dhan dhan and even the sheep whose wool was used to make the blanket. I am an agyani moorakh. Please give me some summat.

Gurfateh Ji

With all due respect to the original poster, I do not see how praise of Sri Krishan Ji can be inferred from any of those Gurbani lines posted.

Out of all of them, only one can be seen to be referring to Krishan Ji directly (about the hunter) and read in context it can clearly be seen that only Vaheguroo himself is being praised for saving all of these people.

Two of the tuks actually use the word 'Raam', and even if we are going to believe such naams in gurbani are referring to avatars, sri raam chandar is different to sri krishan ji, but anyway Bhagat Kabeer Ji has already cleared up the use of 'Raam' in gurbani (and I believe this applies to all other kirtam naams that appear in Gurbani)

Kabīr rām kahan mėh bẖeḏ hai ṯā mėh ek bicẖār.

Kabeer, it does make a difference, how you chant the Lord's Name, 'Raam'. This is something to consider.

So▫ī rām sabẖai kahėh so▫ī ka▫uṯakhār. ||190||

Everyone uses the same word for the son of Dasrath and the Wondrous Lord. ||190||

Kabīr rāmai rām kaho kahibe māhi bibek.

Kabeer, use the word 'Raam', only to speak of the All-pervading Lord. You must make that distinction.

Ėk anekėh mil ga▫i▫ā ek samānā ek. ||191||

One 'Raam' is pervading everywhere, while the other is contained only in himself. ||191||

The rest of the gurbani thuks are clearly refering to none other than Vaheguroo himself, there is no way you can say they are praising Sri Krishan Ji.

There is no doubt that these avatars were very great, but lets not get carried away, they were not Vaheguroo and there is no way bhagats like Bhagat Namdev Ji who were one with supreme Akaal Purakh himself would worship anyone other than him once they reached that stage.

Its very important not to misinterpret Gurbani.

In regards to the shabad, dhan dhan o ram ben bajai, note the first line, it uses the word Raam. Even going by Hindu belief Sri Raam Ji and Sri Krishan Ji are two different avatars of Vishnu, therefore you cannot possibly argue the shabad is to praise Krishan Ji. Clearly Bhagat Namdev Ji has used the word Raam to make this crystal clear that he is not worshipping Krishan Ji.

Please see prof sahib singhs teeka to understand the meaning of this shabad.
