What Is The Maryada When Someone Dies

I was wondering what the maryada is when someone dies, We recently had a death in the family and before, during and after the funeral there were many things done that I didnt understand. Most of it looked superstitious and the old bibia were saying that the family need to this and that. I just wanted to know if anyone knew the full maryada for when someone dies. from when they dies to when the ashes are given. What are we supposed to do??
