remember press are double edged so use very carefully. these besharam committees that allow sharaab and that set such a bad example. lets see what the new sikh council does about this issue.

The comments above are valid, the press are a double edged sword and we should be cautious.

There's a short window of opportunity that the Satkaar campaign has before these sharab promoting Committee are likely to coerce the media into branding the satkaar movement as a bunch of fundamentalists. We already see small signs of this in Des Pardes columns where terms like taliban have been used by one prominent Sikh community leader.

We must capitalise on the attention while it's positive and remain whiter than white so that no one can promote any false perception of the intentions of the UK Sangat or this movement.

The mainstream media love a "paki" bashing story and they will be waiting for some kind of mini incident to sensationalise. All it takes is for these besharm committees to claim that their congregation’s human right to consume alcohol and meat are at stake and intimidation is used.

Sangat must remain strong and transparent so that any false accusations can be easily countered. This movement is likely to be a threat to some of the self-appointed Sikh leaders and just like they did during the R4G campaign they may abuse their influence with the authorities and media to make the movement look dangerous.

i think tigerstyle guy and coventry dude (i forget his name) have done a good job. end of the day, akal takht maryada says no meat and no alcohol on gurdwara premesis, therefore no meat or alcohol shud be served on the gurdwara premesis, whether in a seperate hall or not, end of.

personally, i think Sikhs shouldnt be consuming meat or alcohol anyway. our ultimate aim is to reach sachkhand... meat and alcohol is hardly going to help...

anyway, the small minority like Nina can argue however much they want, the majority of sangat knows what is right, and have already proved they will turn up and protest against parties at gurdwareh.

i LOLed quite hard at the "modern sikh" argument, nina is a hindu- sikh, the 2 religions have rather different beliefs. she knows nothing, i wud love to see her argue this at bibeksar sahib or harminder sahib etc, wud be rather nice to see her gettin slapped ... :D

The discussion starts around 17 minutes. There's an interview with a "gupt" committee member of a Gurdwara which allow meat and alcohol, a Sikh listner's comments and a studio interview with Navreet Singh from Coventry regarding Satkaar issues.

LOL. What a sinister gupt committee member. The disguised actors voice just make his intentions sound even more dodgy!

Great snappy statement by the presenter Satnam Rana:

"keep the holy place holy"

The sad thing about this issue is that other faiths must be laughing their heads off, when they hear news like this. Most knowledgeable people of other faiths know how important it is for there not to be meat or alcohol in langar - so why are some aspects within our faith doing these things? Its very embarrassing and infuriating.
