we all have a favourite raagi, some may like all because they say the same thing, shabad guru. others may like certain ones because they sing with more pyaar than others.

so as a curious, whos your favorite raagi and a pic would be nice as well?

mine are...

bhai sadhu singh (dehradoon wale, who was on alpha punjabi singing bani yesterday) he is so good because he has gursikh looks and has such a nice voice.

bhai harjinder singh (srinager wale)...

http://www.gsghks.org.uk/bhssnw.JPG

his voice is nice, and i guess my reasons are the same as amans (below, yes i have edited).

bhai harbans singh (jaghadhari wale)

how can anyone not like him? all his tapes has something inspirational to say.

bhai surinder singh jodhpuri (hazuri raagi sri darbar sahib wale), (if you have alpha he sings the shabad amritsar siphti da ghar)?

an old pic of jodhpuri, just imagine him with a white beard....

his first song i heard (koi an milavai mera preetam pyaara) on shabad kirtan on alpha was beautiful, such effort and pyaar when he sings. so soothing his voice. really calms down the mind especially when i am in stress.

bhai amrik singh zakmhi (was in my

previous avtaar)

its nice to listen to his sarangi master (it is sarangi isnt it?). may seem like he shouts when he sings shabad, but he sings with pyaar.

bhai sarabjeet singh rangila (or also known as bhai sarabjit singh durg, my new avtaar, my hasnt he turned old)

http://www.gurmatsangeetproject.com/Images...inghRangila.jpg

you just have to listen to his rababi, it just creates a soothing atmosphere. especially when he sings at darbar sahib which is pretty rarly. only seen him sing 4 times in a year. still, i have a dvd of him going to hemkunt sahib.

all these raagis can be listened to www.proudtobesikh.com

and click on the 300 shabad radio. 300 raagis!

His keertan and voice is absolutely amazing. He has a genius mind too with a lot of nimratta. Everytime i meet him hes always smiling and always has something inspirational to say. I have never seen him use Amrit Keertan when he sings or any type of notes either and i think he is one of the main keertani who spreads so much pyaar to kids and thus bringing them into Sikhi. I know 7 yr olds who try n collect his every CD and tape and r cuming into Sikhi coz of their love for his keertani. He does ure typical ghazal tunes to shabads but trust me, he knows soooo many raags its amazing. Definitely a gud Sikh role model.

AND other wkd keertanis include Bhai Niranjan Singh (artist formerly known as Sant!) who has such an amazing voice and tunes.... if u watch the videos on www.sikhifm.com of his amazing performances in Stratford Rd Gurdwara, Birmingham ull be dazzled. The hall has such a wkd echo too. Also Bhai Balwinder Singh Rangila is a fave because he does sumthing rare... he adds katha to his shabads with

a reli beautiful voice. Sant Anoop Singh has sum nice tunes too... and the classics of course.. Zakhmi, Bhai Avtaar Singh, Bhai Balbir Singh... it goes on n on!

ok well there is one thing.

I belive as for shabads we arent ment to have a favourite voice/ragi who sings the shabad as it is irelevant. but we are ment to listen and understand the hukam.

thats what I herd from a Dr and see how it makes sence.

pull chuk maff.

    • Yeah, that's one possibility. Another I initially thought is that it's a Muslim trying to gather info. But then, you might ask, how does he know about Sikh textual sources. Well, you'd be surprised at their resourcefulness. A final possibility is he's a weak Sikh who was asked a question by a non-Sikh and now he's suddenly feverishly wondering where it's "written" that you can't marry a young child. To the latter, I would say, you're looking in the wrong spot. Gurbani isn't a 1428 page rulebook, like Leviticus or the Vedas: ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਪੁੰਨ ਪਾਪ ਬੀਚਾਰਦੇ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਤਤੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ The Simritis and Shastras discriminate between charity and sin, but know not the essence of the Real Thing. Without the Guru, they know not the essence of the Reality, know not the essence of the Reality. Anand Sahib.
    • You're confusing two different things: One is merely adding starch to a turban to get a certain feel to the fabric. The other is tying your turban once and taking it off like a hat. It is this that people have a problem with. What's wrong with it is that Rehit says to tie your turban afresh every time. If you ask, "Where is that written?", it's written in Bhai Nand Lal ji's Rehitnama. @ipledgeblue didn't just make it up. Umm, no, bro. We're not evangelical Christians like President George W Bush of the US claiming to "talk to God" who told him to invade Iraq. "Speaking to him directly" basically ends up being doing whatever you feel like with the excuse that Guru ji told you to do it. If you still want to take your turban off like a hat, feel free to do so, but don't claim that it's Rehit.
    • You don't need to wear either a pag or dumalla in the gym. You can simply wear a meter or 1.5m small turban (gol pagg or round turban). It doesn't come off.
    • The reason you don't see anything wrong with it is because like a fish in water, you grew up in Western culture and imbibed it fully. It's very difficult to for parents to inculcate traditional culture while in the West. The reason there is a problem is because a kiss between a man and wife is a sexual act (I didn't say it's coitus, but it's still sexual.) By contrast a kiss between a mother and a child, for example, is not sexual. And in our culture, sexual acts are not allowed in public. Goras do allow it. And that's also the reason they have gay pride parades now with people walking around naked with children in attendance and so forth.
