“About 650 Indians were arrested in southern Texas in the last three months of 2010 alone. Indians are now the largest group of immigrants other than Latin Americans being caught at the Southwest border.”

Uhhh….what?!?

In a recent story by the LA Times, this shocking little fact (above) was published thanks to a noticeable spike in illegal immigrants of Sikh decent into America. Typically, the whole California illegal immigrant debate is associated with Latin Americans coming in from southern countries, but now Indian Sikhs are increasing in number.

But why Sikhs, specifically?

They claim to be eluding religious persecution from their home states (mostly Punjab or Gujarat) or are part of the Bharatiya Janata Party who claim they’re targeted for beatings by fanatic members of the ruling National Congress Party. But Indian authorities don’t buy it. They say Sikhs haven’t been religious targets since the 1980s. (And India’s Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, is a proud Sikh!)

So then what’s the real reason for this mass illegal migration? It’s probably just for better economic opportunities in the states for those willing to be a part of a human-smuggling pipeline and pay $12,000-$20,000 for it.

What do you think about the issue — is this new Sikh influx justified because of their “religious persecution” or should they be subject to the same rules as any illegal immigrant?"

They just totally contradicted themselves. Even if Sikhs aren't facing persecution then what is the soo called Indian Government doing against farmer suicide? Sikhs are coming here for better economic opportunities, then who's fault is it? Sikhs cannot enjoy the right every human has. Their economy sucks, their government sucks, and their law enforcement sucks, what do you expect from them then? India claims to be the next superpower then why is their economy going down the drain? Why is Punjab full of illegal drugs and illict activities? Its easy to blame the Sikhs who are 'illegal immigrants' but they cannot deny the fact that India is doing nothing for us and thats why we want to come to America.

edit- There's a reason why most Sikhs in the States are prosperous abroad in terms of dharam and keeping Sikhi alive than in Punjab.

The terror system in Punjab is the most dangerous, it's hard to see, only the victims see it first hand. If you want to look, though, it's very obvious how much discrimination and hate goes on towards Sikhs in Punjab.

Now the halaath of Punjab is this- if you have full kesh you're a terrorist or are looked down upon by many. The media and the government institutions (even schools) contribute to such things.

My chacha ji (electrical engineer) and chachi ji (gynecologist) went to some hindu family's house. After they asked what they did they didn't believe them, the lady asked my chachi ji in a surprised/non-believing manner whether she was a nurse or a specialized doctor. When you see a group of people doing well, you get hate always.

I was thinking more of the motive and agenda of whoever wrote this article its obvious an overt attack on the Sikhs of America, perhaps the Sikh media watch organisations can take up this matter. Just swap the word Sikh with Jews or any other racial/religious group and you can see how this article is written for public consumption.
