Every third male and every tenth female student has taken drugs on one pretext or the other and seven out of 10 college-going students abuse one or the other drug, High Court told.

These disturbing details were submitted by Harjit Singh, Secretary, Department of Social Security and Women & Child Development, Chandigarh, in reply to a petition filed by some to drug rehabilitation centres before the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The secretary, on behalf of the Punjab Government, submitted that "the vibrancy of Punjab is virtually a myth.... many sell their blood to procure their daily doze of deadly drugs, even beg on the streets for money to continue their addiction... The entire Punjab is in the grip of drug hurricane which weakens the morale, physique and character of the youth. We are in the danger of losing the young generation. The vibrant Punjab that had ushered in the green revolution is today living in a dazed stupor as 67 per cent of its rural household has at least one drug addict."

More than 70% of Punjab's youth is addicted to drugs.

Glut means to flood (a market) with an excess of goods so that supply exceeds demand.

70% drug addiction......says the report.

And would you like to know what kind of things are included in this 70% ?

Well.....the kind of things that.....if the rest of the world used the same statistic compiling criteria....would result in England having a 100% drug addict population. Canada having a 100% drug addict population and America having a 100% drug addict population.

Things that make up the 70% include paracetemol for headaches......and a cough syrup for a cough.....and a glass of beer.

As far as I'm concerned the people that should really be tested for drugs are the people that compile these statistics. They're definately on some thing.

kids arn't beat like they use to be

You did not even answer my question.

Wake up and smell the punching bag (pun intended :p), this drug problem can not be tackled by simply beating the poor kids. It's a much more involved process than that!

the parants have to be strict and teach their kids about drugs keep their kids busy and use dicipline if the kid isn't getting good grades and isn't working then smack them lack of disipline is why kids are out of control especially with boys in punjab and west the boy is spoiled raised like prince and the girl is treated like second class citizen kids are spoiled now in punjab
