''There is widespread violenc going on in some cities of Maharashtra and shops of Sikhs have been vandalized and some Sikhs beaten up in cities like Pune and Satara.

IN Pune, AKJ Samagam in remembrance of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji's Shaheedi had to be canceled as there was widespread violence and there was danger of a Clash with NCP goondas. Badal, Makkar and other leaders called up Maharashtra CM and demanded security of Sikhs and safe passage for Sikhs who had gone for Samagams in Maharashtra.

He also told that Harwinder Singh is not a member of RSS but an Amritdhari Sikh and reason for his Slap was Minister's arrogance while answering question related to Farmer Suicides in Maharashtra, Punjab and other parts of India.''

(Its not first time a leader has been slapped in India,Hindus have been doing this for a while, so why is this violence and resentment against Sikhs only? )

Protests in Maharashtra after Pawar slapped by Sikh youth

By SHAHID RAZA BURNEY

MUMBAI: There were large-scale protests throughout Maharashtra by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) activists on Thursday late evening after NCP President and Federal Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar was slapped by Harvinder Singh, a young Sikh transporter, when Pawar had gone to attend a literary function in New Delhi. Singh had earlier assaulted former telecom minister Sukhram outside Rohoni court on Saturday after the minister was sentenced in a corruption case. Singh shouted at Pawar saying he was angry and frustrated with scams, corruption and price hike.

The incident sparked violent protests throughout Maharashtra with NCP workers setting vehicles on fire and pelting shops with stones. Schools and colleges were closed and shops pulled down their shutters.

NCP activists blockaded roads in Solapur and Nashik district to protest the attack on Pawar.

In Nashik district, NCP workers disrupted vehicular traffic at Trimbak Road and Kalwan, while in Navi Mumbai, the agro produce market was closed. In Baramati town in Pune district, the hometown of Pawar, traders closed their shops and businesses.

NCP workers also held protests in Mulund and Worli suburbs of Mumbai. Police arrested some NCP workers in Mulund on charges of trying to disturb law and order.

Sudhir Mungantiwar, the Maharashtra state president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemning the attack on Pawar described it as a cowardly act. Eknath Khadse, the Leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, denouncing the attack on Pawar said that in democracy such attacks are condemnable and that one can protest using only non-violent means.

In the evening, Pawar appealed to the NCP workers in Maharashtra to observe restraint and not to indulge in violence. He said he did not want to react to the incident.

However, the NCP had called for total shutdown in Pune, Mumbai, Nashik, Navi Mumbai, Solapur, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Jalgaon and some other cities on Friday.

Sharad Pawar slapped in Delhi, protests across Maharashtra

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/mumbai/Sharad-Pawar-slapped-Protests-across-Maharashtra/articleshow/10862445.cms

MUMBAI: Protests erupted across Maharashtra after the attack on Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar in Delhi. The Nationalist Congress Party has called for a bandh in Pune, Sangli and Beed districts on Friday to protest against the assault on its chief.

"We have asked those who love Pawar saheb to observe the bandh. We won't compel anyone," party member Mohansingh Rajpal said. "The bandh will be peaceful," Pune city NCP chief Vandana Chavan said.

The bandh call has also been given in Beed and Sangli districts by local NCP functionaries.

As news spread about the assault on Pawar, who was slapped by a Sikh youth claiming to protest against price rise and corruption, NCP activists took to the streets in large numbers to express their anger and denounce the attack on their 71-year-old party president.

Protesters held demonstrations on roads in Mumbai, resulting in traffic snarls at several places. Suburban rail services were also disrupted for a few minutes after NCP workers squatted on the tracks at Masjid Bunder and Kurla stations. They were quickly dispersed and train services were restored, said rail police.

NCP workers forced shop-owners to down their shutters in Mumbai surburban areas like Sion, Dadar, Worli, Antop Hill, Shivaji Park and Kandivali. Mumbai police said several NCP workers were rounded up to control the situation. They were let go once the situation was under control.

In adjoining Navi Mumbai, the agro produce market closed in protest.

Meanwhile, all political parties joined hands to criticize the incident, including PM Manmohan Singh. "PM regrets the increasing tendency to take recourse to violent means to express disagreement," said a PMO statement.

West Bengal CM and ally Mamata Banerjee said, "People may want to protest against anything but this is no way to express their grievances. This is absolutely condemnable."

Times View

In democracy, there are many legitimate forms of protest. Venting anger through violence is not one of them. The rise of vigilanteism is a dangerous trend for India and cannot be justified in any way. There have been several such attacks in the recent past. It's time to take strict action against offenders to deter others from seeking a day's cheap publicity.

Theabove news seems not to be true.

Western Maharashtra districts such as Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur which have a strong following for the Nationalist Congress Party, observed bandhs and protest rallies on Friday to condemn the attack on Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president and Union minister Sharad Pawar on Thursday.

Members of the Sikh community also participated in the events in various places.

NCP activists condemned the statements made by anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare in Kolhapur and Satara districts. In Satara, a protest meeting was organised in the NCP office which was attended by water resources minister Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar.

During the meet, the activists burnt the effigy of Hazare and Harvinder Singh outside the office. In the meeting,NCP district president and MLA Shashikant Shinde dared Hazare to come to Satara and make disparaging remarks about Pawar.

At Sangam Mahuli near Satara, effigies of Hazare and Harvinder Singh were paraded on a donkey. In Kolhapur too, more than 70 NCP activists led by city president RK Powar burnt the effigy of Hazare at Shivaji Chowk on Friday.

The bandh in Kolhapur and Sangli and the protest rally in Satara evoked a good response on Friday.

In Sangli, former mayor Suresh Patil and former MLA Dinkar Patil took out a protest rally from the NCP’s office at zilla parishad and then to the collector’s office. The memorandum was handed over to collector Shyam Vardhane.

Members of the Sikh community also took part in the rally. “There are 35 Sikh families in Sangli. All of us have kept our businesses closed and participated in the rally for condemning the attack on Pawar,’’ one of the Sikh leaders Viky Chadda told DNA.

Shops in market areas like Ganpati Peth, Kapad Peth, Patel Chowk and Saraf Katta had downed the shutters. The bandh evoked a total response in the city area while mixed response was seen in suburbs.Schools, colleges and other essential services were excluded from the bandh. The district remained peaceful.

Who are these members of the public who jump to the defence of these ministers and begin organising rallies and marches? Have they got nothing better to do?

either they are congress party members or ardent supporters of congress...but the vast majority are maharashtra nationalists...who believe any maharashtran harmed or attacked..is an attack on the whole state and its people

They've got too much time on their hands. The fact that they think they're above the law speaks volumes as to how much power their "masters" wield, as they believe they will be protected from prosecution, etc.

Idiots.

Hindu justice.

'An Indian person, frustrated by widespread corruption has broken the law, chi chi chi, I got an idea, lets express our sadness by rioting, looting, physical attacks etc against the fifth largest religion on Earth. THAT will teach the lawbreaker a lesson!'

I can't wait to come across the next Hindu shoplifter.......
