all gurdwaras used to be built like qilas, forts. something that made them easy to defend. he was defending his own home, the gurus home is the sikhs home. look at all the other times the darbar sahib has been attacked, sikhs have fortified it and defended it and given shaheedia. 84 bungas (watchtowers) were constructed to help secure darbar sahib, so theres a history of sikhs defending it. as for weapons, what do we decorate guru granth sahibs paliquin with? shastar. we are instructed to keep weapons so weapons were kept in darbar sahib. if sant ji hadnt been there the massacre of innocent sikhs would have been a lot worse. the singhs tried to get as many pilgrims out of darbar sahib when the indian army began to surround it, the army didnt let anyone out. if the singhs didnt try to get people out more people wouldve been killed.
