Reason why because they are one in the same.When the gurus came down to earth they were god themselves.

Vaar 1, Pauri 35 of 49 -

੩੫ : ਬਗ਼ਦਾਦ ਗਮਨ

ਇਕ ਬਾਬਾ ਅਕਾਲ ਰੂਪੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਰਬਾਬੀ ਮਰਦਾਨਾ।

And "akaal" as defined in "Mool Manter" is only waheguru ji. Akaal formed a "roop" of Guru Nanak Sahib to teach and save us from Kalyug and Maya. All Gurus, one Jot. Waheguru ji is giving us darshan as Guru Granth Sahib ji. But based on seekers karams, Guru ji's taras and kirpa, waheguru ji give darshan to them the way they worship HIM or the way they want to have HIIS darshan.

ਧਰਨਿ ਗਗਨ ਨਵ ਖੰਡ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸ੍ਵਰੂਪੀ ਰਹਿਓ ਭਰਿ ॥

ਭਨਿ ਮਥੁਰਾ ਕਛੁ ਭੇਦੁ ਨਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਰਜੁਨੁ ਪਰਤਖ੍ਯ੍ਯ ਹਰਿ ॥੭॥੧੯॥

Guru means only Guru

Guru in itself forms a word of respect

it does not matter if you only speak Guru...!!
