Home Office scheme Sikhs in the UK illegally

Received by email from Balvinder Kaur Saund <balvindersaund@hotmail.com>

Dear All,

Please pass on this information to anyone here in UK illegally, about this Home Office scheme, which has recently been advertised on Sikh TV Channels and media, by Sikh Council UK.

There are people who may not approve of this initiative but this scheme is entirely voluntary, and it genuinely wishes to support those staying in UK illegally and homeless, who voluntarily wish to return home. I am simply passing to you the message to pass it onto others who may be needing help.

Our local Gurdwaras have been inundated by bereft homeless people with drug, drink and other illnesses, and our Gurdwaras are helping as much as they can with langar, medical support, donations of clothing, and allowing the men to sleep in the gym area of their premises.

Many of them are trapped in UK with no papers, no job, no housing, no recourse to benefits, no family, with no way back or forward, some feeling suicidal at their predicament.

If any of them approach you expressing a wish to go home voluntarily, then please pass the the following information to them:

This voluntary return scheme can help you to return home with dignity and respect

This Scheme will offer you:

- Support and assistance throughout the process.

- Cover costs in obtaining all relevant travel and identity documents.

- Funds for your travel in the UK and in India, including your flight ticket.

- Allowance to contact family in India.

- Some clothing and toiletries allowance.

You do not have to worry about being arrested or detained as the Home Office support the voluntary departure scheme and are working closely with Sikh Council on this project.

Call our confidential helpline where you can speak to an advisor in Panjabi or English. We also offer a call back service within 36 hours If we are unable to take your call.

Please call our helpline in confidence to find out more on:

What some of the singhs have informed and so il post it up. is that they also promise to help you in alot of ways ie advice on setting up work or some sort of back to work initiatives. They give you all the funds and free ticket home to lure you in and convince you.. Once you arrive in dehli, the police are waiting for you. First they give a good old katapa, then wisk you off to prison. If your lucky and have people to follow you up then they first want you to pay the bill the uk gov has given to india which includes all the ticket costs etc. So u gota settle all that first n then any bribery .... so its not all as good as it may sound. ...

The Gurdwaras with all their money should be doing more. Why can't they set up a hostel accommodation like the Churches do for those in this situation. The larger ones have plenty of houses. The Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Southall has 5-6 houses in Hammond Road which are mostly empty. Not everyone who is in this situation is addicted to drugs or an alcoholic. If not hostel accommodation then why not place where they can shower and wash their clothes.

Some organisation should take initiative.

Provide food, clothing & shelter to needy.

The issue with our people is usually that we don't don't trust each other.....this is why our gurdwaras don't actually "help" people, they are just the rich feeding the rich. Also our people like to abuse the system alot hence there intentions are always questioned........it is a sort of like a catch 22........

I know in our gurdwara we had lots of students coming who used to even take langer home. Our head granthi got mad at them and they never came back. The issue goes 2 ways - there is abuse of the langer and also a hard-line attitude by the commitee's......everybody is I guess is right in there own sense of the situation.

Suicidal immigrants trapped in UK being helped to leave Redbridge

Amanda Nunn, Senior reporter

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

4:42 PM

Punjabi migrants who came to the UK with dreams of a better life have ended up bereft and homeless and are now being helped to return home by a Sikh project.

One councillor said that gurdwaras around the borough have been inundated by homeless people who are addicted to drink or drugs.

The project, funded by the Home Office, has been slammed by a migrant charity chief executive who says faith groups should be helping vulnerable people and not exploiting them as part of political point scoring.

But Cllr Balvinder Saund said: Our local gurdwaras have been inundated by bereft homeless people with drug, drink and other illnesses.

Many of them are trapped in the UK with no papers, no job, no housing, no recourse to benefits, no family, with no way back or forward some feeling suicidal at their predicament.

The Sikh Council UK has been given £60,000 for the scheme which encourages people to go through the Voluntary Return programme run by the Home Office.

There are people who may not approve of this initiative but this scheme is entirely voluntary, added Cllr Saund.

But Rita Chadha from the Refugee and Migrant Forum of Essex and East London, says these people are only given the option of returning home rather than being helped.

This is not a role for faith groups and thats the bottom line, she said. They should not be advising on immigration. It goes against the ethics of a lot of faith groups which is to help the most vulnerable, not to exploit them.

She said the scheme had been tried in gurdwaras in south London and it resulted in people being too scared to go there any more.

You should not have to show your passport to get into a gurdwara. Its not showing people they have rights in this country, Ms Chadha added.

People will stop trusting faith-based groups as they think they will get shopped to the authorities.

    • https://www.kentonline.co.uk/maidstone/news/bring-family-friends-dogs-cats-kids-to-park-243561/ Meet up in Mote Park, Maidstone, announced by Metin Warwick is criticised   TRAVEL NEWS   NEWS ALERTS   BYMary Graham mgraham@thekmgroup.co.uk   Read all comments | 49       19:00, 06 March 2021  | Updated: 07:57, 07 March 2021     A council has condemned a bid for a mass park meet-up tomorrow. Metin Warwick, a barber who has previously gone against lockdown rules, suggested people congregate in Mote Park, Maidstone. Announcing an 11am meeting time, by the cafe, he added on Facebook: "Bring family, friends, dogs, cats, kids, or just come alone because you won't feel alone when you get there." He also included pictures of the park looking busy by the childrens' play area. Some of his supporters said they would 'join the next meeting' while others pledged 'to be there.' Under lockdown restrictions it is still illegal to travel away from home and meet in groups. People are allowed to meet just one other person from outside their household for exercise only. The government does plan to ease this but not until later this month. From Monday people will also be allowed to leave home for recreation outdoors with another person from outside their household, or support bubble. From March 29, as schools start to break up, outdoor gatherings (including in private gardens) of either six people or two households will be allowed. A spokesman for Maidstone council, which manages Mote Park, said: "The council would discourage any such event and would encourage people to adhere to the rules. "We're very close to lockdown easing, why ruin it now? Mr Warwick, 39, who previously ran King's Hill Barbers in Churchill Square, has been vocal in not agreeing with lockdown or his salon having to close. Speaking to KentOnline at the end of last year (before children were told to stay home from school) he said: "My business will continue, simple as that. I don't agree with it, everything is a conflict of interest - kids go to school but they can't play football, plumbers can go into people's houses but I can't cut somebody's hair.
