Thank you for all your replies....

I feel much better reading your replies especially Usernametaken bhen ji, your always so funny!

I felt motivated and tried taking in all your advice that we should sing for our Guru not anyone else, but when i actually sat down after nearly a whole month with my vajja, i noticed that that had only made things worse! I know it was wrong of me to stop but i really want to sort it out.

I've always had a dream to performe kirtan in the sangat :(

The gurdwara i go to have stopped doing kirtan classes and no other place nearby does them, i wish i could take professional singing classes but unfortunately i can't.

i hope somebody could help me , maybe suggest what kirtan shabad is simplist to learn first in a easy tune?

any voice improving tips or exercises...

I always get scared when I get asked to do kirtan. Once I said no to kirtan seva and a fellow Sangee shared a story he found online about Bhai Jivan Singh Ji where they had asked a girl to do kirtan on her wedding day and she had refused. She later regretted it and when she did finally get a chance to speak to Bhai Sahib and apologize for saying no, Bhai Sahib said that she would have gotten asees (good wishes) from Gursikhs in the sangat if she had done it. I stopped saying no to the seva after reading that story. We dont know how many blessings the sangat and Guruji are showering so why deprive yourself of this.

The reason I would say no to doing the seva was I felt I didnt know the tune enough or my voice wouldnt sound nice, but at the end of the day, you aren't catering to your ego and you aren't a performer. None of us are. Its your soul singing to Guruji. Sing with all your heart and don't pay attention to anything else :)

Take a misari before you sing. Practice, practice, practice. My throat used to be sore when I started singing properly but then it stopped being sore. My voice improved.

Remember, the important thing is that you sing guru ji's bani. You are not doing it for sangat. You are not doing it for yourself. You are doing it for Guru Ji. You are singing to Guru Ji. No one else. Focus. Practice. You will get there.
