San Jose: Support Street Name Change from Murillo Ave to Gurdwara Ave

September 19, 2016 at Evergreen Village Square Branch Library in San Jose.

Sikh Gurdwara San Jose has proposed to the city of San Jose that the name of the Murillo Avenue, section between Quimby Road and Aborn Road, should be changed to Gurdwara Avenue. There is however strong opposition from the neighborhood in spite of the fact that presently Gurdwara Sahib is the only address on Murillo avenue.

We need your support to make it happen. Hence we kindly request you to come on Monday Sept. 19th to the community library at Evergreen Square and show your support.

We have a bigger issue than protesting these things, remember Aurangzeb Road? (Which Sikhs wanted as Guru Tegh Bahadur road, which is now Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road?) Even though the country is different, the idea is the same.

I think it might help in spreading awareness about Sikhs in US.

This will only spread hate to us, if the local people don't want their street changed, (the ones who live on that street), don't be an a-s-s-h-o-l-e, and go around changing the name of their street.

Only address on Murillo Ave is gurdwara sahib and I don't know why neighborhood has problem with the name change.

just to give bit information about San Jose gurdwara sahib and its neighborhood. When gurdwara sahib asked for relocation  and building permit from old location to new one on the hill, this same neighborhood actually made the association and protested very loudly on not to allow Sikh gurdwara to open in their neighborhood while you can see churchs in the same vicinity. This is hidden racism of rich folks up on hill who doesn't want immigrant community to open their place of worship.
