Nihangs in 1984

The nihangs are supposed to be tyeaar baar tyeaar. Ready for battle at any moment. So where were the nihang Singhs during the attack on harimandir Sahib? Who has the answer to this?

Some Babbar Khalsas were shaheed in the attack and there were some Nihang Singh's in the movement afterwards like some singh's listed on this website http://www.neverforget84.com/shaheeds.

However, their is a point here to take here. Today, and back then, the majority of Nihang Singh's did not do what they could have done with Shashtars. I will not say anything more.

Babbar Khalsa was mainly made up of people from AKJ though.

Which calendar does AKJ use these days? Bikrami or Nanakshahi?

So basically they just didn't come out and put up a fight? Only after everything was said and done did they come out?

This is untrue. Baba Santa Singh Ji was not a sellout like longowal. Baba Santa Singh took money to build akal takhat sahib because then we didnt have an akal takhat. We were prone and in a bad situation. Baba Santa Singh Ji used the initiative to get the akal takhat built as quick as possible and without the sangats money since it wasnt the sangat that did the damage. I am not sure what you refer to when you say they were "threatened" can you please elaborate on this.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki fateh.

Baba Santa singh was because he took Indira Gandhi money so your saying you should he built akaal thakth sahib quickly but then baba thakur singh did Kar sewa and built it properly and also baba Santa singh used to get money from government to hit singhs who fought after 1984 so he is a sellout like the others

He was the biggest sell out and traitor who licked the feet of Indra and did whatever she asked him to do.

The Akal Takht which Santa built with blood money was demolished by Sikh sangat and rebuilt

Santa was a sell out and kicked out of the Panth as a result. Real Nihangs like Brahma and co represented, but then the so called Tarna Dal, Harivelan jathedars i dont know if they did much? I know there are quite a few nihangs who gave shaheediyah but as a whole the 'tyar baar tyar ladliya fauja' as a whole didnt do much

    • Yes. Being intellektual means you are boring. Keneda particularly promotes this. They love the Larping that goes along with the rural life.
    • Be mindful of quality educational institutions because it would encourage further exodus out of Punjab. It also depends on where you think educational institutions come from, what I mean by this whether it is public (government funded) or privately funded. There are plenty of privately funded colleges and universities. For example, there is Lovely University. This is privately funded. They have a huge campus built not far from Jalandhar.  You cannot have these educatonal facilities without having the jobs to go with it.
    • Well I had one relative (through marriage) from back home who was snatched up to do his MSc in Germany (something about auto-driving cars with BMW). When he finished that, he was snatched up by America (Texas to be specific) to do his PHd overthere, all he had to pay for was his ticket there and they have set him up with uni fees and accomodation. Another female relative in the same branch of the family just got a job in a Panjabi university as a Chemical Engineer lecturer, so things are happening.  Not enough in my opinion though. Says a lot that hordes of sons of relatively affluent pendu families back home aspire to come to the UK and become builders. There is an anti--intellectual culture back home. There is little to no culture of appreciating/developing gian for gian's sake - and it explains a lot of what we see.
    • There has been a concerted, long term effort to dumb the panth down and promote barn-dance jamboree culture over all else. This helps keep 'wild Panjabi Sikhs' docile and easier to control. Sadly too many of our own are complicit in this, and actively help promote it themselves.  But people are waking up to this.

Wjkk wkfj! Sangat ji I have been getting thoughts of late regarding the academic culture in Punjab. There does not seem to be a thriving one currently. I might not have good knowledge in depth regarding the same, and do correct me if I'm wrong which I hope I am, but isn't it so much rare these days to come across a Punjabi scientist who is the best in his field? Or maybe an economist? A researcher of some kind who has contributed to his field of work. Why don't we see enough people at top management positions in the corporate world who have acquired their degrees in Punjab? This is another isse, we don't really have many quality education institutions or central government companies that are headquartered in Punjab. I read somewhere that there used to be many bungay in Amritsar that were centres for learning in a specific subject each. Why have we been unable to cultivate a learning culture within our native land? Why do we have to go out of Punjab, to other states or even abroad, if we need to gain quality higher education in a subject? I feel like it's high time we start focussing some energy on improving Punjab's academic climate. What do you think about these issues? Please let us all know. Wjkk Wjkf!
