Hi

I am interested in what the Sikh Holy Book says on the subject of the devil. A Sikh person told me that one of the 10 Gurus was tempted by the devil in exactly the same way that Jesus was. Is this true please? This lady says she read a very learned book about this and it is also written in the Guru Granth Sahib Holy scriptures.

Not the Devil per se (as defined by the Semetic faiths), but an embodiment of the Kali Yuga, which is one of the ages / epochs of history, according to the Indian vedic tradition, that is the era in which humankind exists in a spiritual and moral darkness, beholden to its most based and depraved notions and motivations. So, imagine if all the negative energy of hundreds upon thousands of years of this particular age manifested itself in order to tempt and induce. I think, from my understanding, that's what occurred.

Hi Christiangirl,

go to:

http://www.srigranth.org/

and do a search for 'satan'.

(i cannot vouch for the accuracy of the translations.)

most of the mentions seem metaphorical, imo.

I have not heard that story of the Guru that you refer to.
