That appears to be the result of adopting cruel and hard and fast rules for structuring society like Manusmritri I reckon. Yeah, they did pull off major things in the far past in lots of fields like language, literature, architecture, maths, astrology even Ayurveda. martial arts, weapon design, meditation etc.  

And when they did it points at an advance civilisation before anyone else too?

not even that   for e.g rajputs who were formidable warriors once   they even defeated the arab caliphs and stopped them from entering india    but then rajputs broke into several little kingdoms, all in dispute with each other   trying to take each others land                        rajput kingdoms even assisted invaders in taking over other rajput kingdoms!    had rajputs kept it together rather than breaking into tiny kingdoms all against each other then they would of kept the islamic invaders at bay for much longer.

  rajputs spent more time and energy in battle against each other than against the invaders!    the warriors/kshatriya   the very people that were supposed to be protecting the land! were busy quarreling among themselves!

Singhs need to learn this lesson quickly! We're going down the same path!

Also, I don't think the inbreeding helps. Look at certain descendents of Khatris amongst apnay today. I think the notion that you can perpetually retain characteristics by breeding in doesn't seem right. Genetic variance plays a part. Look at Spartans, who'd even kill off babies to stop 'weak genes' even they got over run and had to flee their stronghold in the end.

That is right to a degree. The Hindu warrior empires where not unified as they should have been. Also the Hindu rulers were not fully aware of the threat that Muslims posed. They did not know how fanatical they would turn out to be. Ie mass converting people. 

If they knew what the Muslims would do. ie mass killing and converting non Muslims. Then they would never have helped or sided with them. They realised their mistake at the end and then they defeated the mughals with the mahrati empire.
