I met Bhenji Kiran Kaur Ji and her husband, Bhaji Harjinder Singh Ji, at Khalsa Camp 2014. Since then, they both took Amrit and now enjoying the Guru’s Path. Below is bhenji’s story of her journey to Sikhi:

“My journey of how I came in to Sikhi…

I grew up in a very western family. My dad would go out every weekend, drink alcohol, eat meat etc. Seeing all these things as I was growing up made it normal for us. However, my inner voice was always telling me something is not right, there must be more to life then this.

A few years later I had some addiction problems and really struggled. I didn’t know how to deal with my emotions, so I just spiralled out of control, from one addiction to another. I asked a Gursikh for help and he told me to spend time at the Gurdwara Sahib and Saadh Sangat, which really did help. Shortly after, I met my husband, who was a true diamond. He came to me at the right time. My husband became interested into Sikhi, and kept his Kes and started following Sikhi.

We both attended Khalsa Camp UK in 2014. At the time, I was living a completely different lifestyle and was used to having a different type of Sangat that I actually didn’t want to go. However, my husband really wanted to go. I thought going to the Khalsa Camp, all these religious people will judge me. However, I was so wrong in believing that. All the Gursikhs at Khalsa Camp were so loving and welcoming. They were always smiling and some of them actually related to my story before taking Amrit.

Attending Khalsa Camp UK gave me a different look and hope to life. I ended up changing my Sangat and having loving Gursikhs become part of my family. I was inspired to become a daughter or Guru Gobind Singh Ji by taking Amrit and donning a Dastaar, and was able to say goodbye to my old life.

I'm so glad that I took Amrit, because for me that was when things changed for the better. Amrit was a promise to my Guru that I won't make the mistakes which I had previously done so and live in accordance to his Wisdom. I have since never looked back and feel blessed to be part of the Khalsa family.”

“Take one step towards Guru Ji, and Guru Ji will take a million steps towards you.”
