The Power of Gurbaani

by Manvir Singh Khalsa

In 1739 Nadir Shah came from Afghanistan and invaded India.

Nadir Shah plundered India’s wealth and jewels.

Nadir Shah captured thousands of innocent Hindu women and girls as slaves.

Nadir Shah would return back to Kabul with the booty of wealth and thousands of captured women to sell.

As the army entered through Panjab, the Sikhs would attack the armies at night time.

The Sikhs would raid their looted wealth and riches.

The Sikhs would free the innocent Hindu sisters and mothers and return them to their respective homes.

Nadir Shah asked Zakriya Khan, the Governor of Panjab about the Sikhs.

“Who are these people who dare to attack my soldiers and plunder me”, he asked.

Zakriya Khan replied,

‘These are the followers of man called, ‘Guru Nanak’, their homes are their saddles and they visit their holy shrine in the middle of the night and disappear before the first light of day.’

Nadir Shah asked, ‘What gives them their strength to dare them to challenge me and my large armies?’

Zakriya Khan replied,

‘Their Guru has given them Amrit, ‘the water of immortality’, those who drink and bathe in this become fearless of death’.

Nadir Shah cheerfully said,

‘We will stop them taking Amrit’

‘We will destroy their Amrit’

‘We will poison their sarowars (pools of water)’

Zakriya Khan replied,

‘We cannot take away their Amrit. When they are near water and recite their Gurbaani then even that water becomes Amrit.’

‘So we will take away their Gurbaani! We will destroy their Gurbaani an

d burn their Sacred Granth so that they cannot make Amrit’, said Nadir Shah.

Zakriya Khan said,

‘We cannot take away their Gurbaani…’

‘Their Guru is always with them.’

‘Their Guru is in the form of the Shabad (Divine Word)’

‘Gurbaani resides with the Sikhs of the Guru.’

Nadir Shah then said,

‘One day these Sikhs will be the masters of the land.’

Gurbani is love, which joins us with the supreme love.

Gurbani is the divine truth, which joins us with the Greater Truth.

Gurbani is an ocean of jewels, which makes us realise the jewels within us.

The Guru Granth Sahib Ji is the king of kings because it is the ultimate truth.

The Guru Granth Sahib Ji is the king of kings because its inspirational message is eternal.

The Guru Granth Sahib Ji is the king of kings because it is the living voice and light of Nanak Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

Be inspired and inspire others.

May Waheguru bless you.
