But if this fails to result in mental concentration, we might resort to the beads of the rosary. Subdued utterance of the Divine Name and listening to its sound helps us to concentrate. At first, the mind does wander and concentration is di.cult to attain. In this tug-of-war, irrelevant thoughts are bound to recur, but one need not despair: There is no escape except through Simran…

Been two weeks and read first 100 verses of Charitrpakyaan. It's poetic. It's also interesting and will make one thing "Damn! did women / men really fool the opposite gender like that?" we're talking unbelievable lies, women lying at point blank range and their husbands fall for it, how women used charitrs (mainly words) to get out of sticky situations. And... the husband (mainly kings) fall for it! Makes one think "OH! COME ON! U just caught her in that position- what u mean u believe her?" HOWEVER! Grasping this Bani makes one think... are we following in these steps? how many times have we used Charitrs? (lie, deceit and make a flimsy excuse), then who fall…

I have been fortunate to comes across the first edition of an incredibly inspiring book called "Gurdwara Reform Movement & The Sikh Awakening" , which is a detailed eye-witness account by Ruchi Ram Sahni published and written in 1922 and later distibuted by the SGPC. As an eye-witness of some of the thrilling, if tragic incidents over the country, he writes many personal breathtaking accounts of the remarkable awakening amongst the Sikhs, their heroic struggles for freedom and purification of their historical places of worship. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On April 17, 1921, fifteen dacoits armed w…

Gurdwara revered by lamas too Nestled deep in the Himalayas, about 25 km from the town of Leh, is the Gurdwara, Pathar Sahib. The Gurdwara was built in 1517 to commemorate the visit of Guru Nanak Dev. It is believed that Guru Nanak Dev reached Leh via Sikkim, Nepal, Tibet and Yarkhand. The place is revered by both the local lamas and Sikh sangat. Currently the Army is looking after the gurdwara. As per a legend, there lived a wicked demon who terrorised the people in the area where the gurdwara is situated. The people prayed to the Almighty for help. It is said that Guru Nanak heard their woes and came to their aid. He settled down on the bank of the river below the h…
