Jagjot Singh Childhood I was born and raised in Ottawa, to a typical Punjabi family. Parents were not very religious but I think they were just a bit confused about the whole thing. So from a young age my parents had my brothers and my hair cut and they gave the typical reasons, you will not find a job, get teased. The interesting thing is that my dad never cut his hair and hated people of his generation that did it when they came here. Ottawa in those days was basically "Hicksville", and the Sardars would wear hats or cut their hair when outside but to the Gurdwara where these huge Punjabi boat pugs. There were only a few Sardars who actually kept there hair. So anyw…

GURNAM SINGH - ADDICTED By Harjit Singh Lakhan My friend Gurnam Singh in Birmingham told me his story at a kids camp July 2002. He used to be a drug pusher and addict on the streets of manchester. He ran away from home aged 13 and lived with thieves and druggies. He kidnapped, raped and did other unspeakable things in order to get money for drugs. Only his mother believed in him, that he was better than that. She used to see him once a month and go to gurdwara do shoe seva with a handkerchief and wipe that on his forehead while he was knocked out drunk or drugged out. Once he even put a knife to her throat because she wouldn’t give him money for drugs. One day she told…

WJKK WJKF, a sakhi... (from tapoban.org) The guru came into the congregation today in a different manner. He was playing with a rock, tossing it back and forth in his hands. The disciples of the guru asked him to share his reason for doing that. He then instructed a Sikh to go and get a bucket full of water and return. The disciple ran and brought back the bucket and placed it before the guru. Guru Gobind Singh Ji then released the rock from his hands into the bucket full of water. He then asked “Has the rock drowned”?. Sikhs came forward to see whether it had or not, then proclaimed, “yes it has drowned”. The guru than brought the next question for his disciples, “Why …

vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!! from here. SAINTS and SINNERS :<Edited>: Anonymous When somebody yields to temptation And breaks one of man's or God's laws, We look for no good in his make-up, But oh! how we look for the flaws! No one cares about how he was tempted, Nor praises the battles he’s fought; His name becomes food for the jackals -- For us who have never been caught. “He has sinned!” we shout from the house-tops, We forget the good deeds he has done, We focus on that one lost battle, And forget all the times he has won. “Come, gaze at the sinner!” we thunder, “And by his example be…

Faithless becomes Faithful By Gurinder Singh I am a 21 year old Sikh living in United States. Moved to California, Usa when I was 17. I previously lived in Punjab and was very much interested in science and had little faith in God. I would see everything in this world through physics. I would apply physics law to make a better understanding of this world. Since God has no scientific proof of existence, I had doubts about the presence of God in this universe. However having studied in a Sikh school from first to eleventh grade, I would recite JapJi Sahib along with my classmates. Little did I know any meaning of the Gurbani and the purpose of life. The only belief about…
