I was just wondering about this thing. I am a Sikh (non-AmritDhari) with uncut hair and wear a turban everytime.I am going to be an engineering graduate in a year. But I am like very much into sports ,I have been a state Cricket Player ,and recently I have been playing Golf , and during long Sunday mornings in Greens , Sun really beats the hell out of me , if I don't wear a cap , So I generally , wear a patka and a cap on top of it , and even when fielding in Cricket for long time , I do wear a cap. So is this wrong? , I know wearing of anything else but Dastaar is not permitted in Sikhism . But what about SIKH sahibaans who do other stuff than Bhakti? which is definitel…

absolute vs relative morality
by Guest Haridas- 6 replies

What is relative morality? It means basing your morals on what those around you are doing. E.g. everyone else drinks (alcohol) so why shouldn't I drink? Everyone else lies and steals should why shouldn't I? Mindless conformity. And what is absolute morality? Morality that is timeless, that your inner conscience tells you (and common sense) is right, and that is often expressed by higher principles. E.g. Drinking alcohol is immoral. Lying is wrong. Stealing is wrong. And even if 99% of the people around me may engage in these things, I won't, on this basis. This is intelligence based on individuality. The point in this post is that I think too many peop…

abstinence celibacy

Hi this probably wont be a popular thread at all, but just some food for thought. In the ancient text 'Yoga Sutra', is describes how brahmacharya (freedom from sex) denotes true manhood. The same would apply with womanhood. In older times, both genders would consider brahmacharya the normal state (until marriage). Nowadays it seems sexuality is equated with manhood and womanhood, mainly through media brainwashing. However, even the most foolish and immature teenagers could engage in sexual behaviour. (Hence the previously stated attitude is clearly erroneous). Also implied by the media is that sex is a need. Sex may be a desire, but it is not a need. …

Abuse By Amritdhari Boy
by Guest Singhni2465- 9 replies

Hi I'm a young girl and was in a relationship with an amritdhari boy, he used to abuse me (punched, kicked, beaten up) to the point where police and adults got involved. However he never admitted to anything that he had done and got away with it, he now lives the life of a 'perfect' Amrit Dhari boy & walked away like none of this had affected him. What does gurbani say about people who abuse others, will he be punished or has he gotten away with it all?

Abuse By Trusted Religious Sikhs

Wearing a turban is supposed to demOnstrate that your Sikh and that follow Sikhi, so then why do some Sikhs abuse this by wearing a turban and then abusing vulnerable children? What do you do if someone in a trusted position does this to you? Who do you talk to? How do you stop them from preying on others as you're to weak to stop them and speak out. I'm really struggling here and need help. I need to believe that waheguru will help me to overcome the misery that is my life. Will he?

Abuse Towards Boys.

I just wanted to provide a story for the male victims of molesters etc because I know it’s a problem for girls but I just wanted to make sure the sangat is aware that boys can also be targeted. Well when I was younger about 4-7 I was constantly sexually felt up by my older cousins, I don’t keep in contact with them anymore and my family don’t either for other reasons. I never told my Parents because they used to tell me its normal behaviour and that it is rude to tell others and that I would be in trouble. When I was about 8-10 and once more at 14 I got sexually abused by my Mama (Mum’s Bro), and he is an AmritDhari, once again I don’t keep in contact and my family rare…

Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa Vaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh Jee ? As a family we're fairly new to Sikhi and only started to connect to it more since going to a divaan with my Masee Jee in Canada last time we visited. The Bhai doing katha was really knowledgable and spoke in English. My husband was sent a link yesterday to a youtube video about sexual abuse "committed" by this Bhai Jee. My son has even started reading his Jap Jee Sahib da Paht and tying a Domala because of it. Ive been reading more on Sikh Sangat since working from home as it has helped me learn a lot since coming into Sikhi. I thought maybe somebody on here could provide me with some clarification regarding this …

Gurfateh It has come to our Attention that members are posting topics to do with Meat, Becoming Vegitarian etc however in some circumstances we have seen users abuse the gupt privilege. An example of this is in Meat topics where one user is posting from both Sides, Pro and Against. This post is simply a reminder to everyone that even though Gupt forum ensures annominity from the members, it doesnt offer the same from Moderators and Administrators. Therefore its really easy for us to see the type of posts a gupt member makes in Gupt Forum and what their registered username is. We do not check who is posting in Gupt forum and what their registered username is, unless th…
