This year’s 9th annual Yudh took place in San Jose California for the first time. For some of the sangat it was the first opportunity to see one of the biggest Gurdwaras in North America. The entire atmosphere of the competition was full of anticipation as participants arrived adorned with Khalsa Baana and shimmering weapons. For one day, it seemed that the newly built multimillion dollar San Jose Gurdwara had turned into a Khalsa fort of the 18th century. The main purpose of this Yudh is to preserve the Sikh heritage of Gatka …

Thirty-one persons were sentenced for life today after they were held guilty of burning alive 33 persons belonging to a minority community in one of the ghastly crimes unleashed during 2002 post-Godhra riots in Sardarpura. In all, 73 persons were made accused in the case. It's very sad that Akali Dal President Makkad welcomes LK Adwani in Harmandir Sahib and being taken there in a procession. Sikhs should not forget that this mean person Adwani was responsible to insist and misguide Indira to attack on Darbar Sahib in 1984.This was confessed by him in his book, "My life my story'. I feel really ashamed on Akalis who will portray this event to glorify their foolishness through media but in fact have discarded the martyrdom and brutal killings inside Darbar sahib to which Indira had to give her life in avenge and thousand of innocent Sikhs got massacred aftermath. So would you like to accept these Sikh leaders as your leaders or to punish …

Proficiency in the Queen’s language is proving to be an Achilles’ heel for aspirants from Punjab seeking to join the world’s third largest Army. Despite being able to fare well in screening, physical fitness and medical tests, a number of candidates have found it difficult to clear the written English test. And, ironically, that too from a state which is contributing youth by the hundreds to universities and vocational institutions in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom for which clearing the IELTS is mandatory. Interestingly, officers of the Army’s recruitment directorate blame the deficiency on the short messaging service (SMS) and low standards of school ed…

High drama was witnessed at the Golden Temple Complex today as SAD (Amritsar) supporters led by its president Simranjeet Singh Mann staged a protest when BJP stalwart LK Advani along with his family members visited the shrine. The impact of the protest was clearly visible, as the SGPC didn't present 'siropa' (robe of honour) to the former Deputy PM inside the sanctum sanctorum. He was given a 'siropa' and a set of books at the SGPC's Information Office instead. Normally, whenever a VVIP visits Harmandar Sahib, a 'granthi' (priest) presents a 'siropa' to him. But Advani got one when he made an offering of Rs 500 at the sanctum sanctorum, which is a practice followed with…
