  4. I think Pavitar Singh did an excellent job in representing Sikhs. I've listened to Nihal's show for quite some time now and many Sikhs in the past spoke and tried to articulate themselves but always got lost in their emotions. What i am now seeing is that Sikhs are rising above their personal emotions and are sticking to the facts and not reacting with anger when posed difficult questions but are continuing to articulate themselves very professionally. Pavitar Singh is an example of this as he handled himself very well and came across very good too!!! Excellent work from the callers too!!! Overall, that was a really positive show. :biggrin2:

  5. I just finished watching the interview.. and holy smokes. Sardar Aridaman Jit Singh is real embodiment of Sikh spy. He should be given a sariopa for blowing an whistle and exposing punjab police for all the abuses. Lot of people may not like the fact that he had cut his kesh but look at the reason or circumstances behind- infiltrate more and exposing them..we are easy targets, because how we look, its haram/kurahit for amritdhari singh/singhani to cut his kesh rightly so, based on those principles and overall unity, our amridhari brothers and sisters and our mona's brothers and sisters need built better bridge between them and stop fighting over other issues and look at the bigger picture and common interest and work as a team (expose human rights abuses in punjab) so both they can use each other. We are way behind in - infiltration, espionage and proxy war i.e - joining wikileaks (popular whistle blowing website) to fight human right abuses in punjab. Time to re-think our strategy (if we have any).

  7. Well I didnt see any. And if there was, then it was not because of the negligence the Sikh Council or any group because Downing Street was made well aware of this: Dear Steve, My name is ****** , you very kindly sent me an invitation for Mondays Vaisakhi event at 10 Downing Street. I have been liaising with ****** MP for Wolverhampton reference some concerns that were raised at last years events and he requested I also speak to yourself. There are two main concerns: 1. The Vaisakhi event is to celebrate the formation of the Khalsa (initiation ceremony for baptise Sikhs) in April 1699. The drinking of alcohol is prohibiting for Sikhs especially for the baptised, it would therefore be inappropriate to serve alcohol at the event especially as it is to celebrate Vaisakhi. 2. Baptised Sikhs wear the Kirpan as an article of faith and are never separated from them, last year there was a delay of up to an hour because of security concerns. Please could you inform security of this event so that last year’s experienced is not repeated. I apologise for the late contact but as I said above I was only asked this morning to contact you this afternoon by ***** MP. Please email me or contact me on the number below. Kind Regards However, if alcohol was served and complaints have been lodged, then fine, the Sikh Council and other groups should also echo the complaints. However, what is not helpful is questioning the motives and the integrity of those that attended the event.

  8. I'm not a fan of the term "pappu" but some of our people need to sit down and read our history before chiming in. I've come to the conclusion that the West is as hypocritcal as they come and there's not a chance in hell I'm watering-down Sikh history (the little I know so far) if on the off-chance someone asks me to explain our history and major faith concepts to non-Sikhs, just so they don't feel offended or threatened. As Darth Vader would say "The Pappu is strong in this one". RebelSingh, you've radicalised me! :lol2:

  9. If you have any questions, please PM me as I would like to keep this thread clean and devoid of any bickering. Thank you I have used this diet in the past to loose 2lbs per week consistently. 2lbs/week is considered to be on the safe side of things. Note that this diet is an adaption of a somewhat complex diet I read on bodybuilding forum a few years ago. I seem to have lost the link to the original source however. Needless to say there are a lot of foods listed which are not suitable for vegetarians, however, I have tried to provide options for vegetarians as well. Also note that when talking about consuming protein, I am assuming that you are doing some form of resistance training. I highly recommend that you do resistance training as part of your exercise program. You do not need to use additional weights, body weight will suffice for beginners. Goal of this diet is to lose body fat while minimizing muscle loss. Here your exercise routine will contour to the diet plan. There are three types of days while on this diet: High Carb Low Carb No Carb Days - Assume 5 meals/day - 1/5 of total protein intake per meal (32g/meal for me @ 162 lbs) - (can have lots of extra protein, if needed) - a "lean source" is one that has no more than 10% of its calories from fat - keeping dietary fats on the low side, with the majority of fats coming from supplemented EFAs (essential fatty acids)-specifically fish oil (high in long chain omega 3 fatty acids -- EPA/DHA). - you will be supplementing with fish oil at 10 to 20 grams a day HIGH CARB DAY: -------------------------- - 3 meals can have as much carbohydrates (only from the 'Approved Carbohydrates' list). You must eat the minimum amount of protein at each meal as discussed above - each one of those meals must include a small piece of fruit, between 50 and 100 calories worth - can choose which meals (3 of 5) will have carbs and which don't, but the meal preceding and following your workouts must be a carbohydrate meal. I will have carbs for breakfast, and carbs for post workout meal. Pre-workout meal will have a few carbs, maybe yogurt, to give me enough energy for the workout - eat until you are satisfied. eat clean, good quality carbs LOW CARB DAY: -------------------------- - two meals may contain carbs - at least the meal following your workout must be a carb meal. I will have carbs for breakfast and post-workout only - eat approximately one gram of carbohydrate (only from the 'Approved Carbohydrates' list) per pound of bodyweight per low carb day. (I will have 160g total carbs for 2 carb meals) - don't forget your small piece of fruit, at these carb meals - simply learn general portions of the carbohydrates you choose to eat, so you don't have to measure everytime, which is a royal pain in the behind for me! NO CARB DAY: ----------------------- - only carbs you can have is the fibrous type - green leafy vegetables, dark colored ones - only consume protein (and some fats); again from the list Veggies: - green leafy, low calorie, fibrous vegetables - salad (no dressing), cabbages, escarole, broccoli, spinach, zucchini, squash, and kale are appropriate. Generally, any vegetable that contains less than 50 calories per cup Each and every day, whether it be a high, low, or no carb day, at least three meals, each and every day should include one cup of green veggies. It can be with or without your carb meals. You may find it more pleasing to the palate to consume your vegetables with your no carb meals. POST WORKOUT NUTRITION: --------------------------------------------- - Assuming you are lifting weights, recommend, at a minimum, between 30 and 50 grams of whey protein. If you are only doing cardio, you probably do not need a protein shake but try to have as much protein from your food intake as possible - can be a protein only meal, and then followed by a carb meal on carb days, or can be taken with oatmeal (or another carb from the list) on carb days - On no carb days, obviously you'd just be having the whey protein MEASURING PROGRESS: --------------------------------------- - you are likely to look and feel bloated at the end of, and the day after, your high carbohydrate days. This is normal and not an indication of lack of progress - measure/weigh yourself once every other cycle is more than sufficient; so you are measuring every 6 days; keep it consistent, measure after the same cycle every time; I recommend measuring after a high carb day Approved Carbohydrates: Brown rice Oats (Slow Cooked Preferred) Sweet potatoes or Yams Fiber One (All Bran) Cereal Starchy Veggies (corn, peas, etc.) Beans/Legumes Approved Yet Limited Carbohydrates** Whole-wheat pasta Whole grain breads, pitas, etc. Approved Lean Protein Sources (A) Cottage Cheese (0 or 1% fat) Tofu and skimmed milk Chicken (white meat) Turkey (white meat) Tuna Fish (can) Fish (flounder, tuna (fatty or not), salmon, shark, etc.) Shellfish (all types) Protein (preferably whey post workout, and casein before bed; MRPs must be low-carb) Lean beef (including lean cuts of steak) Egg whites (egg beaters) Approved Higher-Fat Protein Sources (B) Cottage Cheese (Whole Milk) Chicken (dark meat) Turkey (dark meat) Eggs (half whites, half whole eggs) Steak and other meats (not exceptionally high fat cuts) TO PUT IT ALL INTO ACTION: ---------------------------------------------- Try not to put two no carb days back-to-back Certainly do not put two high carb days back-to-back Maintain what amounts to (roughly) a weekly ratio of 1:1:1 of the three types of days; and error towards the lower calorie side rather than the high calorie side heaviest, hardest, and highest volume workouts on high carb days. Put your off days on your no carb days. Or, use these days for cardio work or you lightest low volume days. active recovery workouts would be ideal here (stretching, core) recommend, at a minimum, 30g of high quality whey protein - can be a protein only meal, and then followed by a carb meal on carb days, or can be taken with oatmeal (or another carb from the list) on carb days - On no carb days, obviously you'd just be having the whey protein

Therefore Gurdwara Baba Sang Ji Smethwick has struggled at the last minute to get all the items together, but with Guru Ji's kirpa have still managed to do so. Please help out as much as you can. Please do an Ardas for Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick's committee wale.

  12. LOl its not because of keski kakkar. There was a time at guru hargobind sahib ji, were it wasnt allowed for non muslims to wear turbans. Guru hargobind sahib ji did elaan that my khalsa fauj and my sikhs will were not one turban they will were two... It was a hukam from guru hargobind sahib ji. Baki tuhadi sharda hai if u stick on that hukam or not

  13. The more the better...right? But it depends, go with what your panj pyare say...if they didn't specify then it's your choice btw this is based on the 'is keski a kakaar' controversy...if u believe it is, then you have a small dastaar(called keski) tied on at all times...you treat it like a kakaar. So dastaar goes on top of keski. if u don't believe keski is a kakaar then one dastaar is fine.

  14. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Well Done, i often listen to ppl like Bhai Sukha Singh (Uk), who is the best parcharak in this country, we need 2 speak in english @ gurdwaras, the stupid ol fogies need 2 do one! When panjabi is spoken on stage, everyone falls asleep, even my parents, its not jus easy as puttin english translations on a massive projector, we live in a world where ppl cant b asked 2 read, TV is the reason for this, so spoken english is KEY! In south america gurdwaras, all the sikhs there, as well as converts, all speak in spanish, so WHY are we dumb n fallin behind? All non-believers as well as sikhs themselves MUST b targetted by english katha, because the NEXT 10 years is gonna b crucial for sikhs in the UK! In the last 10 years, muslims have come a long way in england, there were hardly any white converts 2 islam, n hardly any hijabs/ninja outfits, but 10 yrs on, these muslims r everywhere, and the nxt 10 yrs, we gotta make it our decade, thank u

  16. Paji, no disrespect, but let's ignore what they are about + focus on our solutions to our own problems ... maybe you can try to push the United Gurdwara movement in Canada if that's where you are based. Thanks (oh loki kush vi hohn, assi apne masle-ah baaray soch rakhiye ... and please don't anybody spend tourist dollars over in Pakistan ... when that money would be better spent in East Punjab to benefit Sikhs instead)

  17. the real cause is that we have forgotten to study guru granth sahib and incorporate it in our lives .... 99.99% of sikh panth today is SGGS illetrate .... Instead of shabda guru we have a pustak guru .... (FROM SGGS) Guru jina ka andhla chele nahi thav & Guru Jina ka andla sikh bhi andhe karam kare Sikhs think its enough to do Chavar, prakash, sukhasan, akhand path, parikrama and matha taken ... no need to study what guru wants to say ... much less act upon it

  18. Aside from external forces I'd say we are the biggest cause of our own misery on a micro level. We tend to gravitate towards making the wrong decisions time-after-time. You could argue that if we were resolute in our adherence to the faith, problems like drugs, the dera culture, basically anything or anyone who is clearly not good for Sikh interests should have been ignored and ostracised. But we don't do that.

  20. Please read and share with everyone; Bhai Pal Singh who is in his late 50's has endured so much, yet he remains in high spirits: http://www.prisonerwelfare.com/news/bhai-pal-singh-letter-1/ Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa || Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh || To those beloved, caring Sikhs and to those who despite their distance look after me. You must be thinking how we in the prisons are coping with life inside. From 5th of August 2010 till now I have been imprisoned in a small cell. The measurements of the cell are as follows: 10ft long and 8ft wide. Within this small cell there is a only a curtain that separates us from a Turkish style toilet. The cell doors have locks on them and outside the cell there is a tiled open spaced room. To exit this room there is another door which has a grilled, mesh type steel door. In my cell there are another two inmates, Bhai Kulwant Singh (now deceased) and Bhai Makhan Singh. We used to be four but with Waheguru’s (God’s) grace Bhai Darshan Singh Dadhi was released. There are two water taps in the toilet area and in this area we must keep our clothes, food containers and dishes (storage space). We are now having to cook our own food because the inmates who cook the prison food are addicted to intoxicants and are even allowed to smoke whilst cooking; sometimes we find cigarette butts in our chapattis or lentils (Daal). We petitioned a writ in the High Court about this but were unsuccessful and so we took the decision to cook our own food. We can buy the chapatti flour from here (jail) but the lentils are ordered from outside. For us this is very expensive. In order for us to prepare our food we are obliged to hire a stove for 100 rupees and pay for the fuel for an additional 18 rupees. This is all because the prison food is both appalling and unhygienic – This has also resulted in almost every other cell hiring their own stove so that they can, as a minimum, take the prison lentils and add various flavourings themselves. The prison chapattis are semi cooked, so we have our own hot plate to re-cook the chapattis properly. The prison canteen is where we buy our fuel, milk, yogurt, sugar, onions and potatoes but we are forced to pay a rate that is 3 times higher than the selling rate outside the prison. The daily timings for routine activities in the prison are semi-fixed; they fluctuate with the season. In the summer they will keep us outside our cells for longer. They take us out of our cells at 6am, however they impose a cell “lockdown” between 12pm-3pm regardless of what the conditions are (in the summer it is difficult to breath due to the humidity and stuffiness of the cells). It is prison rules that we must be taken out of our cells from 7am and lock us up again between 12pm – 3pm. Between 3pm and 6pm we are then released again and the cells are again closed for the day from 6pm to 7am the following day. If anyone causes any trouble or if someone disappears, the jail authorities create more rules and impose stricter conditions on all. The water starts running at 3am and this is when I wake up and have a bath and do Simran (meditation), Nitnem (morning prayers) and listen to Sri Darbaar Sahib’s Hukamnama (order of God for that particular day)and Kirtan (religious hymns singing). Everyone recites their prayers together. I wash my clothes at 5am so that when the cell doors open again at 6am I can then hang my clothes outside. By now its 7 am and we put on our tracksuits and go for a power walk or jog; we train like camels. In about an hour we have covered about 2km. At 8am some of the Singh’s will make Garam Jal (tea) and we make our way to the prison Gurudwara. They allow me to do Kirtan (sing hymns) between 8:30am and 9am everyday. After I have done my Kirtan, I will practice between 9am and 10am. At 10am I will then make my way to the gym and do some weightlifting for my arms/chest for half an hour. We would use each machine one by one. I can bench press 70kg with ease and with a little help I can bench press 100kg. The youths here are surprised and astonished to see an old man like me doing this exercise. I started going to the gym and exercising with this intensity 8 months ago because after they had tortured me, my body quickly deteriorated. It is by the virtue of Waheguru, by purchasing food from outside the prison, eating and training well, my body is a lot fitter now. At 1030am the gym closes and I return back to my cell and read the newspapers. At 11am a fellow inmate will prepare the food and after eating this meal we will once again go for a walk, to help digest the food. During this walk we prefer to do Simran rather than to talk to other inmates. At 12pm we are again locked up in our cells again and we use this opportunity to rest for a small white and then to arise again and complete Sukhmani Sahib and other Baani’s (Prayers). If we have some time after that, I will then make notes of the various happenings and my own case. Once the cells open up at 3pm, we go to the Gurdwara. I am the only person permitted to go to the Gurudwara at 3pm whereas the others are only allowed from 4pm onwards. Between 3pm and 3.45pm I practice Kirtan and I will continue this in front of the congregation until 4:15pm. After I have finished we all then complete our Rehiraas Sahib (evening prayer). These timings are applicable to the winter schedule; the summer schedule only changes slightly. After Rehiraas Sahib, we go outside the Gurudwara to an area where there is a 400m track where we walk and complete 4-5 laps power-walking. At 6pm we return to our cells and we are locked up for the night. Here we listen to Kirtan for half an hour, prepare and eat dinner and again listen to Kirtan until 8pm. Every now and again, a comedy program comes on air and we would watch it with the news. If we are afforded the luxury of fruit and nuts, we would also indulge in them as well. By 9pm we are asleep. This is our daily routine. For the last 18 months I’ve been in prison but somehow I haven’t realised or felt that I’ve been here for so long. This is because of the blessings and prayers done by you for me. Sometimes when I do Kirtan in Raag (classical musical form) I am surprised that someone like me is blessed by Waheguru’s grace; no-one has taught me how to do Kirtan here. I have been given two Kirtan Books from which I have learnt to do Kirtan. This is a peaceful life – the reality is, I have not been able to live outside! This is simply Waheguru’s blessings. It is with the the Sangat’s prayers and Waheguru’s grace that I’ve been able to live in peace. I have however seen people cry here. Only those are saved who follow Waheguru’s will. Gurbaani (Guru’s words) is extremely powerful and it doesn’t let its followers fail or slip. My mind still hasn’t been able to comprehend your prayers and well wishes. With Waheguru’s blessings many in the prison have stopped taking intoxicants and have started to keep their hair. I believe this is Waheguru’s blessings on me: that I have been assigned this duty to serve the people here. Sangat Ji (dearest congregation), If I have said anything wrong, please accept my sincerest apologies. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa || Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh || Pal Singh Amritsar Jail
