  1. Here is a nice Sakhi of Guru Nanak Dev Ji for a Friday afternoon. On one of his travels Guru Ji came to a town and stopped at the house of an old Sikh called Chundhwadi. He was very poor and was in a fluster as to what food to place in front of Guru Ji. He went to the local town not knowing what to do. While he was there he saw a gathering of people and went to see what was happening. It was a wrestling match and the local Nawab was parading his champion. Now, the champion was called Maskeen and was tall and muscular and was undefeated. He stood while the proud Nawab challenged all the town if there was any person who would take on his champion. Maskeen strode into the middle of the large circle flexing his muscles. No one dared step forward for fear of serious injury. When Chundhwadi heard that the prize was 50rps he thought that if he could get the money he could use it to buy provisions to place in front of Guru Ji. He stepped into the ring and declared his intention to wrestle Maskeen. All fell about laughing, how could such an old man who was just skin and bone take on the mighty Maskeen? As the two opponents came close Maskeen asked “What are you doing old man? You have no chance against me, what possesses you to fight me, you are going to get seriously hurt” Chundawadi said “Oh champion, Guru Nanak Dev Ji is coming to my house today and I have no food to place before him, my only chance is to beat you and use the prize money.” Maskeen fell into thought, “I have heard of Guru Nanak” he said “they say he is Khudha himself. I would also like to meet him.” After much soul searching he said “Old man, if I let you win will you take me to see Guru Nanak?” “Yes” said Chundawadi “but what will become of you? If you lose, and lose to an old man your patronage will end and what will become of you?” But Maskeen did not hear this, all he could think about was meeting Guru Nanak. So it happened that after a few moves Maskeen fell to the ground with a thump and as planned the old man put his foot on his chest and claimed the prize. There was pandemonium, there was a riot, the proud Nawab was humiliated and disowned his wrestler. Maskeens reputation was ruined, he knew that he would be turned out of his house. His family were even more livid, when they heard what had happened they planned to do away with him. They hastily dug a trench under his munja and stuck in spikes and covered the whole thing with large palm leaves, they planned to murder him and then plea with the Nawab to let them stay at the house. As Maskeen finally got away from the crowd he could not find Chundawadi in all the commotion and wondered home. His favourite daughter met him on route. She had seen what was happening and told her father. But Maskeen was a broken man, he did not care what happened to him, he shuffled to his house and went straight to the munja and lay on it fully expecting the whole thing to collapse into the hole underneath, but nothing happened. His little daughter ran to him and peered underneath “Papa, I can see a man in robes holding up your munja” she shouted. He knew, he just knew. Maskeen jumped off the bed and before he knew it Guru Nanak Dev Ji stood before him. He fell to his knees placing his head on Guru Jis feet. Guru Ji sat him down. “Oh Maskeen, you were willing to lose everything for me, I am now here for you” Guru Sahib Ji blessed him and said that he would be remembered for always. Fifth saroop, Guru Arjan Dev Ji adds Maskeens name to the 15th Sloke in Sukhmani Sahib Ji – “ Sukhi vasay Maskeenia aap nivaar tallay, wudday wuddy hunkarian Nanak garab gallay. “

  4. http://www.sikhmissionarysociety.org/sms/smspublications/guruarjandevjitheapostleofpeace/chapter2/ This link has reports from A.C. Banerjee, Macauliffe and some known Muslim historians. Completely un biased and more to the truth than and enemy of Sikhi. I hope this helps. It has a wealth of knowledge in true history from non Sikhs. I had to find a report from someone that was non Sikh so that no one could say it was a biased report.

  5. There needs to be a lot more programmes in English. Most Gurdwaras are run by middle aged men who have no touch with the youth. The youngsters do not all have good knowledge of Punjabi so more translations in English are needed. This is one area that we are lacking in, by doing everything in Punjabi. I think we are the only major religion that is like this and IMO it need's to change.

  8. lol at icuc and his useless post - if that is a guy and he waxes his underarms that is so funny. I don't agree with not bleaching hair because its an insult that God made us imperfect. Else we would not cut our nails, apply lotion etc etc. We do so much during the day to look good or maintain ourselves. I think the reason we should not bleach our hair is because hair is given so much indescribable respect in sikhi that we should be looking after our hair and not be damaging it with bleach etc. Also, as sikhs I think we (and other humans) look more beautiful maintaining their natural beauty. If a person says to you that you have hair on your face etc explain confidently that yes as a sikh you dont remove it and thats what you are. Most people do respect you for that. It is so true that all you need is confidence. If guys dont talk to you then so what it is a good thing at least you are not wasting time talking to guys that are not interested in being friends only. You need to be grateful and confident.

  11. whether we like it or not, in terms of race the future of the world is going to be like Brazil, at least that's how the US/Europe will eventually become. With more education and advancement of our understanding of science, race is becoming insignificant. We are already seeing the signs of change during our lifetime. Caste is really pathetic. Show a Gora/westerner a clean shaven Punjabi Tarkhan, Jatt, Chamar, Brahmin and I bet he can't even tell the difference between the 4, and would probably laugh his a$$ off at our perceived differences. Yet we are still holding on to these caste differences even though there is no visible or racial difference between the different castes of the same ethnicity. Just in case you are guessing what caste I was born into, I was born a Jatt but once I realized how stupid these differences are I abandoned my caste. For me a non-Jatt Gursikh is far more worthy of respect than a Jatt who has become Bemukh. I would bow my head a 100 times in respect to the Charan Dhoor of a non-Jatt bhagat like Bhagat Kabir Jee Bhagat Ravidas Jee Bhagat Namdev Jee, Bhagat Ramanand Jee than I would to a Sikh who beleive he is great because he was born into a Jat family. Nothing great about being Jat. Our greatness is only because of Guru Gobind Singh Jee. Before our Jatt ancestors became Sikhs what was their Aukaat in Punjab? they would get victimized by the Pathans from the north west and even Punjabi Rajputs. The Punjabi Jatt has nothing to be proud of other than loverboys like Mirza and Ranjha. It's 10th master's Amrit which made Sikhs great not Jattness. We turned from victims to great conquerors over night because of Amrit.

  12. Borat Jee, it is a shame if you believe in the sham of casteism. Our Aatma has no caste or race. How many janams were you a Jat, Chamar, Churha, Brahmin, Habshi or Tarkhan you may not even realize yet you are identifying with the false notion of caste. To identify with one's caste means you are identifying with your body. But YOU are not your body. YOU are your aatma and Aatma has no caste affiliation. The aatma changes bodies as our bodies changes cloths. Once a person realizes this truth caste identification seems very superficial and frankly stupid. Besides, this caste system has done much damage to our Qaum. It is holding us back. In fact it has stunted our growth as a religion. We need to discard this system as soon as possible.
