  1. What a stupid woman  @ , Sikhs are one of the most peaceful peoples I know
  2. Saw this programme and it was disgusting. It's scary to think people like this could be passing you on the street or even that people with such extremist and horrible views can even exist. Don't see Labour trying to stop them though???
  3. If its any consolation I am Muslim and I'm disgusted by this event (Rally) and the Al-Mahajiroun party and I've expressed this openly on many Islamic forums. I'll be joining in your drive to get it stopped by signing the petition and sending emails to anyone concerned. Be rest assured that there are Muslims out there who hate it as much as any of you (even if it is unfortunately only few). And I have been grouping together all of the Muslims I know who feel this way to stop this in a similar way you are doing here. Lets hope something is done and the Rally doesn't go ahead.
  4. Thanx for the answers they explain well
  5. Helo all, quite a few questions i'm hoping some of you could answer for me? Bear in mind I don't know any punjabi and you'll have to put it simply because sad to say my knowledge of Sikhism is very small 1. From what I've gathered on the forum , when you take Amrit you're becoming more devoted to your religion and adopt the 5 K's? If so, what does the Amrit involve? 2. Is there any particular dress code regarding men and women? 3. Are things such as dating, free mixing between men and women allowed, what are the rulings on this? 4. Are Sikhs allowed to drink alcohol or is this a misconception? (I've seen a wedding video from my Sikh friend and the men were all drinking - is this because its allowed or are these men just not doing it correctly?) 5. I'm confused about the concept of afterlife in Sikhism. How many times can you be reincarnated? What are the different stages etc? I had so many questions and now I've come to do the post I've forgotten half of them if anyone can help with these that would be gerat and I'll post somemore hoprfully later on. Yasmin
  6. Of course you're gonna disagree, thats why your Sikh after all and not Muslim  Anyway I respect your opinion, so ummm back to the topic hehe..
  7. Interesting topic But i had to just correct here... Firstly the whole thing about a man being able to have 4 wives in Islam does not mean women are less than men and there are many conditions and reasons for it which I'm not going to go into here because thats not what this discussion is about. To the original poster women ARE equal to men in islam its the misconceptions of today that make everyone think otherwise. And to the person who said the Prophet Muhammad pbuh created Islam to cocnentrate on himself - thats not true, that would be like me saying the Guru's invented Sikhism for themself Anyway corrections aside: ms514 wrote: Completely agree with this. Also it would be a miricle if everyone in the world agreed in one religion so I think its inevitable that other religions came about as people disagreed with what was already around. Sorry if I offended anyone or said anything out of place Yasmin
  8. I think it would be good for the Sikh and Muslim community in that area to work together. Although I'm perfectly aware there are many differences in our two religions there are also similarities and I think for both to work together and get on together would be a good way forward. Muslims have more in common with Sikhs than Hindu's in any case, so although I wouldnt like to say who the Muslim communities over there would support, I think it would make sense for them to support the Sikh community.
  9. Nice site, did you design it all yourself? it's very good
  10. Whatever happened to religious freedom and being able to practice what you beleive... :T:
  11. Very moving post.... it sounded terrible
  12. Just a note of correction: Muslim men cant wear whatever they want  Sorry if this is off-topic, but is there any specific dress for sikh men and women, other than adopting the 5 K's?
  13. I'm not sure which way to think its tricky. I wouldn't normally say that anyone should conform to religious rules that they're not a part of but I think religious schools are different. For example I go to a girls school that calls itself 'christian' like most schools in the UK do, however I wear a hijab, and there are two young girls in the school that wear sikh turbans (sorry dont know the proper word for it ), and at the same time people wear their crosses. But on the other hand I think a proper religious school whether its a Sikh, Muslim, Hindu or a Christian convent school is a bit different. It makes me wonder though if the parents aren't happy that he would have to follow Sikh uniform requirements in the school, why don't they just send him to a different school? Bit hard to decide not knowing the whole story, i'm still divided on whether he should or not :T:
  14. If this is someone's idea of a joke then they must be a sad pathetic individual.
  15. Have to agree that culture and religion are two very different things. These days alot of people are confusing and muddling up their culture and religion to the point that they cant distinguish between one or the other. This is where education is important so people dont start warping their religions by thinking cultural things they do are part of their religion, thats how religions get distorted. Culture doesn't need to be forgotten completely, but its important that religion comes first and any cultural tradition that might compromise the beleifs of your religion are forgotten about because at the end of the day to be sikh or hindu or muslim or christian is more important than being indian, pakistani, arab, english etc and doing things that are associated with this... Hope you could understand my point sounds a bit confusing :T:
  16. ummmmmmmm, sorry for asking but.. whats a pind? :T: isit just someone from very close in your family like a close relative?? Forgive me for being slow lol
  17. bit too much of a general statement me thinks
  18. As a non-sikh found this site and all those questions and answers very helpful and easy to understand, you should spread this link around more!
  19. Thanx for the quick replies and information Yasmin xxx
  20. Helo all, This probably seems like a really <banned word filter activated> question to you as you all probably know all about this But I just wondered if someone could briefly explain to me what the whole 1984 thing is about? Cos i'm not really sure what it is  : Yasmin xxx
  21. Yes I'm Muslim. But i'm not out to cause any trouble!!! I have a close friend who is Sikh and I joined this forum to learn and understand more about her religion and what it involves thats all I also find it interesting just to read about for myself
  22. As a new member and having only just come across this post I took a look at the original thread you were talking about where u said 'muslim hating' was going on from a while back. I also took the time to look at the forum you were 'bombarding'. As someone interested in Sikhism I just wanted to say I couldn't beleive the things you lot wrote and how you bombarded that Islamic forum with emails. Of course there are Muslims doing bad things like purposefully going out to convert sikh girls but there are a LOT who don't. Reading that thread did put a dampener on my view of the Sikh religion, I'm not writing this to defend Muslims or defend Sikh or anyone, but i do think that as this is a public forum that maybe you should be more careful about those kind of things that you say?? only because someone might take it the wrong way and like me it could dampen the view of your religion. I dont think that by degrading yourselves to a level where your deliberately going to an Islamic forum to make those sort of comments could be in line with Sikhism and the way Sikhs should behave?? If it is then I must of got Sikhism completely wrong... I understand Sikhism to be a peaceful religion and the people respectful and always have been very kind and polite to me. Dont give out the wrong impressions!
