like ppl said..its about learning...no point in doing prayers if u don't learn and act on them. So why pray? To remind ureself of the message everyday so u can act upon it....its like a textbook....read it everyday u remember more and learn more cos prayer has deep meanings that everytime u read it u get different level of understanding...
  2. ok. I guess it depends on lifestyle u have. Most ppl shud be able to do it cos u guys have normal 9-5 jobs but small proportion won't have tht. I don't think its a bad thing if u cannot pray. Its more about intent and time. God knows if u meant to and if u had time etc. So it doesn't matter how much u do...its like giving money at gurdwara....its not about how much u give but its about the proportion of ure earning so if u only got £2 and u give £1 then u gave half ...similarly if ure busy then god knows doing any bani is big amount of ure time. So number of bani don't matter....god knows all.
  3. personal choice....i try to dry it naturally as its better for the hair....to save time just wash hair in night and when u wake up in da morning its dry.
  4. I think the problem is with the word daily.....Daily implies everyday, 365 dayes a year!! Truth is a lot of people don't pray everyday. Most people who keep their hair do know bani ....its just that they don't pray everyday but prehaps a few days here and there....I think only amritdharis pray everyday.. Which leads me to ask....how do people find time to do 5 or more bani's? Do you have a job, family etc? Whats the secret. Where do you find the time to fit it in?
  5. I think the poll has gone on for long enough. So conclusion....we have 3 anomalies ie all transgender ppl. I am gonna assume they are male cos its such a boy thing to do! Analysis of age reveals the most interesting things. Firstly we can talk about all topics...as most people are 16 or above. This proves wrong the theory that we have yougn ones. The poll shnows most people are LATE TEENS. About 60% of people are from 16-21 years old. So this is the age group which goes through all the teenage issues, relationships, bullying, emotions, brainwashing etc. lol.....jokes....but yea gives you an idea of topics that would come up alot. We have about 35% of adults.....which is an okay number I guess to pass on wisdom etc. Also Sikhsangat is about 70% male and 30% female. So no suprise things get out of hand....male ego's! LOL. Dunno why there are less females but they are probably wiser and know forums are a waste of time...62% of people don't post but still read. Interesting...
  6. its supposed to make you laugh! lol

    Words..

I think racist is the wrong word....you mean prejudiced. I used to get called turbanator.....and apple head!! Anyways speak to ure headteacher. Tell them the names and he will chat to them. All they will do is hate you but they cannot call u names because the headteacher has said if you tell him they have said anything, no matter how small, he will expel them on the spot and they won't get GCSE's, he won't give them a reference and he will make sure no school accepts them and the police will be told as its verbal assault etc.. So tell ure head teacher. Make sure he scares them properly! And its actually really good when this happens....as they stay out of ure way. They will hate you and you know that but who cares - they cannot do anything and its not like you wanted to be their friend! And later on at uni and when you go to work people are really nice. I only ever got bullied at school. I found that if I worked hard in my exams and got to a good uni everyone loved me. I think its because you finally get to meet intelligent people whereas as school you still have the dumb people around. And to show this a Gora asked me to pronounce my name in the proper punjabi accent and told me off for saying it in the English way! It was so funny but once you meet clever people they are really open minded and interested in new cultures. So my advice is to carry on going, tell ure teacher and one day you'll leave the dumb people behind!
  8. I think alot of the aims we are reading won't get done without team effort...
  9. Me too - it reminds me of school days when everything in shakesphere was oxymoron!
  10. I know what you mean....we no longer teenagers but at least my age group 22-25 is in the lead. Yay!!
  11. This is a nice thread. I hope you get the help you need. Just to hijack the thread - I was wondering if anyone knows any UK based pilots? They don't have to be sikh just someone I can talk to about careers etc....thanks
  12. I think not everyone is registered...I actually wish I had added which country ure from....that would have been more fun!!
  13. This thread made me laugh. I know what you mean. Sikhs got issues!!! There are some SIkhs who see sikhs and walk the opposite way. Thats not nice. Anyways where I live there are not many pagh wale people. Of the pagh wale people I know most of them are weird. But mona sikhs are funny. So many times I am walking around randomly and suddenly a mona will shout KIDAAAAH at me, once a group of them said chak de pateh really loudly. Its kinda embarassing....I wish they would say Fateh....but I guess they are making some effort... Also who hates asian people saying your name in a English way. That has to be my pet hate. If you know how to pronounce then why cannot u pronounce it properly!
  14. lets be logical about it. Periods is just blood, if you had a wound and covered that wound with a plaster are u dirty??? No one is gonna say you cannot come gurdwara or that you cannot pray if you had a cut. There is nothing wrong with blood and likewise there is nothing wrong with periods. People are just worried about leaking and say u make things dirty when u leak but if you look after ureself then u shouldn't leak. As far as I know - only Hindu's and Muslims say their women are dirty at that time....Sikhs are better than that and see no problem! Do seva and simran no matter what!
  15. hey, I think it would be interesting to know to know the age of people posting on sikhsangat...and other cool things! So lets see what we discover.
  16. I think he realised u were using him to go out OR he is busy OR he is actually depressed and has problems OR he is disconnecting from everyone to make new friends OR he just doesn't want to be your friend. Either way its clear he is never going to tell you so you should just move on.
  17. lol speed dating ?, sounds like fun. haha....i found it on sikhnet news....it had the title what to do when you don't have the middle person to find ure partner. It reminded me of this thread. lol.
  18. I agree with rupinder singh. Gurdwara's should go back to the basics. For instance whats up with cutting cake for Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Birthday? What has happened to spirituality? I believe the problem is that Gurdwara is having a decline in spirituality events and a growth in maya - lets attract more people event. Gurudwara is and never should be about numbers. We should not sacrifice quality for quantity. When we do this we ruin the sangat and gurdwara's just become social grounds and we fall into the trap of maintaining sangat which is a social not spiritual sangat. What we need is spirituality and truth in the gurdwara's. We should get rid of these marketing gimics of youth fun langars. They really annoy me. Why would I want to go gurdwara to eat chips and beans and pizza. Gurdwara needs to know its aim. Its aim is to introduce people to sikhi by educating people. Sikhi is very much linked to language, food, clothes and therefore we shouldn't change the culture of the gurdwara to increase our numbers. We should do sakhi, vichaar and weekly discussions....many people have confidence issues, issues about wearing bana in public etc, peer pressure....but by bringing them into gurdwara environment we help them grow because in gurdwara there is no concept of who has the latest brand mobile, who wears the most expensive shoes, or tht it is weird to eat roti for packed lunch.....but if gurdwara's start changing then they are just the same as outside and the issues will never be solved. My opinion is to keep the gurdwara the same but to advertise events better. I believe everything should be done properly and slowly our numbers will rise as people will feel a spiritual connection not a material connection. And remember there is always a fast numbers rise in material connection but in the long run the material connection will crumble and its only those who connected to gurdwara in spiritual connection keep it going. So make people connect spiritualy by providing a sachkand environment inside gurdwara ie give them and introduce them to something completely different to outside.
  19. This might help you. http://www.gursikhspeedmeeting.com/register.html
  20. I think we all lose our hair length and volume with time. Other people probably don't know because they don't keep their hair so maybe its normal and part of the ageing process. I think we as sikhs realise it more because we can compare to when we had hair at the most wheras other people have always been cutting so they don't know. As far as I know..all people I speak to say the same thing - we lost our hair volume! Its like when we were 10-12 we had the most hair....I couldn't even lift it to do a joora....but now its all gone.... but then when you tell people who cut their hair, they stare at you ans say your hair is long and plentiful. So I kno I am not answering your question but I think no one has been able to keep their long hair. Everyone just grows old and loses it, but its a comparative loss because we still have hair but just not the same as it used to be.
  21. why is rimmel ure friend? add me as ure friend!

  22. I suppose you have already looked at this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sangeet
  23. Sad, just really sad, someone has been kept very shelterd all there life. Sounds like someone dint have the talk about certain things with there fam! Babbar Khalistan is only 10 years old! Forums are strange, my sister created an account without telling me and then she wrote very respectable things. I thought nice person and then she sent me a message saying hey sis I am on here too! I was shocked. She's only 7! I know things change cos when I was 7 we never had computers. lol. But you couldn't tell she was a kid.. .her vocab was so different...she had a cool avtar as well. Like I honestly thought she was my age...and I am in my early 20's! So we never know who we are talking to.
