  1. I'm not saying it doesn't happen. I am saying that particular story is a load of tosh. Also when did you start representing everyone, or by 'we' you mean you and your partners experience to raising your kids?

    Benefit Fraud

When majority of Asians came to UK there was no such benefits! My grandad came over 70 years ago, my parents were born here. The majority of Sikhs and for that matter asians who came here worked hard, never claimed benfits forwhich they were not entitled. Your question about if it was your parents or siblings would you report them, well your question is void as most decent people wouldn't even contemplate commting fraud.

    Benefit Fraud

I been reading this thread since yesterday, I can't believe the response's apart from Wales85. It is wrong ethically and legally, how can you do that, it's stealing. Would you guys who responded feel the same if they robbed from you personally? Just because they stole from us collectivelly and not individually you think it's ok? Benefit fraud is taking money away from the whole country, money which could be used to improve your community and life. Benefit fraud is STEALING, means taking something that you are not entilted too. Same category in my view as shopliffting and burgualry. Obviously it's not mugging or armed robbery as your not intimadating people but it is in the same bracket just lower down. Why do people have different perceptions of crimes, like benefit fraud and fraud generally (piracy, tax evasion etc). amongst apne is acceptable.but other crimes are viewed as wrong. CRIME is CRIME if you want to turn a blind eye well turn a blind eye to all crime. You have doubts helping the law enforcement with crimes like this which you may protray as petty, but am I right in thinking you would go running to report a crime if you had been robbed or witnessed a mugging? Also the comment about it being widespread well if everyone reported it it would stop. I'm not against benefits in fact those entitled should recieve the maximum but if you are able to work and are just lazy or think you can pull a scam well it is wrong and you deserve to be reported. The govt. is too leinent in UK.
  4. Mate you got your facts so wrong. He's from Wolves. All the other stuff well I can't argue with.
  5. I think it's not true. It sounds like a load of BS. Oh wait they got a get out of jail free card, as "We have altered the above account to safe guard our source. The name and locations have been changed and how our penji escaped has been changed dramatically for the simple reason not to jepordise any other girls opportunity to escape." Im not saying guys from muslim background don't try it on with Sikh girls but come on that story is pure fiction, at least they could have tried to make it sound plausable. Witness protection programme, come on - you been watching to many US films. I think the story is on LHM's website, just check out his interview with a (so called) Sikh drug dealer. It's pure jokes. It's so false, the type of thing a teenager thinks drug dealers are like and got someone to answer the questions. They 'drug dealer' even fired a few shots (not shot shots but gun shots).
  6. If you read the whole poster it says "Established 1985...........under direct guidance of Jathedar of Ranjit Akhara, Jathedar Baba Gian Singh 'Giana Rab'". Is that the same person? Reason I ask is because wasn't the shastar vidya akhara known as Ranjit akara?
  7. You mean Micheal Chopra, last season he was at Cardiff I think he moved to Ipswich this season started. The only other person I can think off who is of Asain descent to have played top flight football is Zesh / Yezh Rehman for Fullham, He don't play in preimier league or championship no more not sure where he is but he has played for Pakistan team also.
  8. There should be no shame in earning a honest living, regardless of what the job is. Not everyone is fortunate enough to pick and choose which job they do. When you need to feed and shelter yourself and a family it's highly comendable to do any job rather than claiming benefits. These guys deserve respect and should be applauded for doing this job rather than sitting on their backsides and signing on.

    Baby Name

Hi future daddy, My in laws are Hindu, (I got married to someone who was from hindu family. I was never into religion until a few years back. I'm still more UK / Punjabi than Sikh - but trying to become better). I look like any other asian no kesh etc. Anyway bruv, what region/state are they from? If there Punjabi hindu, well then all Sikh names will be ok. End of the day, it will be yours and your partners baby. Offcourse grandparents play a big part. But you want a name you as a couple like. End of the day I don't know why the in laws a making a fuss. If your wife has a Sikh surname, their daughter why wont their grandchild have a sikh forename? There response is we are not sardar, well that's fair enough your not asking them to be. So why are they asking you to have your child named with their conditions? If you chose a gorah name I bet they wouldn't mind. Im not sure how religious you are but I would recommend you visit the gurdwara sahib and take the vaak from the hukamnama. It will give you the first letter too chose a name from. It will have the Guru's blessings. BTW if your having a girl my baby girl (well 6 now) is called Simran Kaur. I think it's a beautiful name for a girl and has great maeaning.
  10. Well unless I understand a different type of English theres a few who do and target Bahmins. Also theres a few more who vent their hatred towards Muslims, targeting their ammuniation at the prophet Mohammed. Why not just concentrate on ourselfs? It's funny how members on here remember the mughals and the recent attrocities the people who belonged to hindu faith commited against Sikhs. What happend to the oppressors in the middle. British raped the land, killed hundreds of thousands, tourtred hundreds of thousands and theres conspiracies regarding other stuff why no one ever hates them? Oh I forgot we live here.
  11. The second ad is taking the mick out of the first. After 30 odd seconds where it says now check this It's Dhoni. The ad is taking the mick out of Bhuji's ad. Lets face fact Singh's do drink, in the ad Bhuji has a trimmed beard so theres no confussion he's trying to even try to represent proper Singhs (amritdharis), If it was a Singh with full beard there might be more confusion, BUT guess what some do also drink.
  12. Please don't get me wrong but I think it's a North American phenomenon, as in UK majority of apne don't work more than 8 hours a day. The max is like 12 more than that is illegal (i think), thats why apne (Englandiers) go Amereeka /Kanneda we think like what life do these guys have always @ work no family or social life or am I wrong? I have family in NY and bay area they have businesses but the guys working for them are typical of apne (so i heard), work like all hours possible.
  13. You have the receipt now, even though microsoft needed it before to help you but now they cant? Chase it up as they can't tell you one thing and then change their minds, also Microsoft is most probably the last organisation in the world to not keep records. They keep records of even those who have Microsoft products and not registered them (as long as theres an internet conncetion). You need to get in contact with your laptop manufacturer and provide proof of your receipt, inform them of your circumstances, obviously the tech guys (who are well known in pcworld, comet etc), can vouch for you. Provide your serial numbers and tell them Office was pre-installed and you have lost the product key can they please provide the product key which came with this product. They will give it too you. It may take some time though. If you have no luck, well inform the tech guys staff that I just wanted the screen fixed. Even novice computer numpties like me know it shouldn't effect the hard drive if you replaced the screen. So if they messed it up it's their fault, inform the tech guys. You bought the laptop from Comet so they know office was pre-installed as they have a record. Let them know that you lost the product key and as an offer of good will, can they provide you with a student/ home edition. If refused - Speak to the manager and be firm they should give it to you as it was their fault. I mean if get a screen fixed you don't expect to lose software. PLEASE just re-read all posts in this thread. Why are you coming across as self rightous? You asked for a product key for office. That's stealing, however you try to look at it from different angles and put your spin on it. Asking for a product key from someone else is stealing. It doesn't matter if you had office, (even though you got it free with your laptop), someone else's product key can not be used on your laptop it violates the license, so it's not presumming you intend to steal. It's a FACT you intend to steal, sugar coat how you want it's illegal. You've just proved what sort of person you are, even after being informed it was wrong, you get on your high horse and think 'i'm doing no wrong', stop judging me with snide remarks, can anyone provide me with a product key. Sorry if i'm being nasty but mate, in my last post I told you it's WRONG. But you think it's fine? Or have I misinterpreated?
  14. Thank you Mehtab Singh, It's about time someone from the admin put that in writing. This is a forum so everyone has different views but what really annoys and upsets me is when members in the name of so called religion in their deluded eyes find it justifiable to disrespect and tarnish a whole religion and community. Most Sikhs I know do not hate others of different faiths but when at work my colleuges have seen me visit this site and viewed it they were shocked at the level of HATE and annomosity towards others. Yet we all know what Sikhi preaches. I'm not singling anyone out but what winds me up proper is when some say Sikhs on here should not tarnish all hindus as the same only a handful are bad and commited attrocities against Sikhs BUT then those hindus make an exception and do exactly the same towards muslims! BTW, read every single one of my posts I have never made a hateful / disrespectful remark to anyone based on their faith or insulted any religion infact the opposite I believe in unity of humankind. I think everyone firstly needs to become a good human being and have compassion for humanity regardless of race, religion, sex, creed etc. THEN and only then can someone even try to become a good Sikh or whatever religion they belong too.
  15. Inform the company who you repaired it from that they wiped everything and if they can rectify it, if not atleast come to an agreement with regards to your situation. Unless they advised you prior that they may wipe everything and will not be held accountable. If so you should have just did yourself it yourself. Also if everything got wiped how did you re-install office? surely you needed the cd? which would have the product key with it. Sorry to sound nasty put it's illegal to give the product key to anyone else. It breaches the license. Whatever people think of microsoft and their monopoly if you do get a product key from someone it's akin to STEALING, which is wrong. So please if you need word just go out and buy it, it's not very expensive. I'm sorry if I sound rude or horrible but you should never obtain anything which is dishonest. People think shoplifting is wrong but are okay with pirated software and DVD's/ Cd's. Alot think it's totally different but it's the same both are wrong both morally and legally. End of the day someone works hard to create something. You should pay for it if you want it.
  16. We have the Khalsa. Just need to act upon the teachings and the commitment they made.
  17. 1. In my opinion yes most white people I know do know the difference between Sikh, Hindu and Muslim. Of course Immigrant communities tend to live in large urban areas so maybe in rural areas where there are no 'coloured folk', they might not of the differences. I have been to villages and get questions from white people, if I type it out it might sound racist BUT I can assure you it was not meant to be. You can tell by someones tone or the way they interact if they are genuinely curious or trying to offend. 2. In most large cities there are areas with high Sikh concentration. It's a given if there are more of a certain group of people it is easier for them to carry out their cultural practicies. 3. Both my parents were born in UK. My grandad came here to study. My Nana came after partition to make money. My parents weren't really religious growing up as it was more about survival not money wise but just in fitting in. It wasn't till the late 60's 70's when large sacle immigration happened did racism come to play. I was born in 80 and im the yongest in my whole family including cousins on my parternal side. Growing up I only spoke punjabi with my bibi my nana's family moved back to India in early 80's. Only rarely went Gurdwara. However, when there is a large community it's easier to get back into your religion and culture. My parents years back were typical punjabi, but not so long ago they took amrit and are proper Sikhs. It's because of them I found an urge to learn about Sikhi. I went with them on yatra with my kids and wife a few years back in India. I also went and spent a gap year in India when I was at uni to connect with my culture. Back then it was cultural not so much religious. I've noticed alot of people who are now in their early 60's late 50's and born in UK actually want to learn more about their background as growing up they were neither fully here nor there as they werent white so not english and as they weren't born in India and came here not fully punjabi, as they spoke mainly english amongst themselves. 4. I tohught everyone looked up to sardars. At school anyone with kesh always had their back covered as they were one of us.
  18. Really? Well it's not the way Sri Akal Takht Sahib see's it. They have issued hukamanama stating a non-sikh can not marry a sikh in a gurdwara.
  19. It depends on trainig facilities. I mean in India it's cricket mad, and India has world class training facilities and a good grass roots programme to recruit new talent. As a result it is ODI world champions and T20 world champions. Also like kds1980 stated back in the day India ruled world hockey, majority of the team were punjabi Sikhs. So it depends on the training facilities provided for the athlete and how new talent is nurtured, like hockey popularity has declined, prior to the 70's hockey was national sport and everyone was crazy for it so it had good facilities and good grass roots programmes to recruit new talent. With rise of cricket it's all focused on that not much investment in other sports to create new talent. However, football is becoming popular due to world popularity. So maybe in coming decades with correct investment and encouraging youngsters it may produce world class players. For asian abroad as being immigrant communities and racism in sports back in the day when are parents were in their 20s 30s they did not encourage it instead asked us to focus on studies to have good careers. However our generation is different we will encourage our kids to excel in sports. BTW theres many apney kickboxers and other martial artists so we are not gentically weak.
  20. Well obviously those parents don't have daughters born in the UK, as there all wrong un's,disobedient and have no family values. However the ones who do think like that well it's a given they have a one in a million daughter who is a very good obiedent, caring, family orientated girl. I'm not saying you think like this but those parents who do are not very clued up about Punjab as it's not like the 50's/60's anymore. It don't matter where your born it's the person you are.
  21. This is going off topic, but WSL the case you highlighted is regards to touching dead animal products NOT consuming. I'm sure it's ok to touch dead animals as many amritdharis wear leather shoes or other garments / wallet/ handbag and sit on leather chairs also just look at musical instruments such as tabla. The person should have known his duties before signing the contract. If changes were made he could have refused and it would not have gone to court. A friend of mine manages a warehouse for a large supermarket, recently a load of muslims refused to touch alcoholic products, however, they were made aware this was part off their duties prior to them starting and signing their contracts. They made a big deal about it and refused. When they were told they were aware of their duties and had no problem with it when they started and then all of a sudden they think they can't, well the option is to do it or you can leave the job, as in cases were it can be avoided they will accomadated but theres no guarantee. They changed their tune once they knew if they don't want to then they will lose their jobs. As they were asked before starting if there is anything they cant do or touch. Also what is meant by cleaning other staff's meat products in the fridge. Surely they are in pack lunch boxes, the meat doesn't need to cleaned? It must be empting the fridge and cleaning it and putting the stuff back right? Or is it raw meat that needs to cleaned and washed, it makes no sense?
  22. Slightly off topic but still related. Most Gurdwareh in UK anyway, are over a few floors. I have only seen in one Gurdwara were I go where there is a disabled users lift downstairs which is like those for wheelchair users or those who cant walk stairs like the elderly which then goes directly into the darbar sahib. I don't know how to describe it its like a lift which is able to accomdate a few people and easily a wheelchair, at the back of the darbar sahib theres like a white box with a door and that's the lift. (located at Guru AmarDas Gurdwara Leicester). The thing is this gurdwara is not very big and theres not huge amounts of sangat like the bigger gurdwareh, but they have facilitated for those who are unfortunate to not be able to walk stairs, why is there not more like this in other gurughars. I know there are lifts in some other gurdwareh but they are just normal lifts to go up and down floors (normally were there when the building was bought). I personally feel gurdwareh where there are no commitee elections etc. get things done and show transparency. They work for the sangat. Lets face it during the day majority of those at gurdwareh in weekdays are the elderly who need help with or strugle going up down stairs.
  23. I feel all children of a parent should be treated equally regardless of anything. However, the issue I have is any person or couple can decide to leave their assets to anyone who they want too. It could be equally, inequally, onlyto 1 sibling or to none and given to a charity or anyone else. Why is their a need for a child to say and expect it is their god given right to DEMAND a share. If the parents don't want to give it to you well you don't desrve it. Regardless of how well you treated them. Why take it to court just over money the person ruined the realtion with siblings and bought the family look in a bad light. If she thoght she was unfairly treated (which you can say she was, if she had done no wrong) she should have spoken to her siblings. Also they should have sorted it out amongst themselves. I mean what type of brother would not want to help his sister out financially.
  24. I have zee punjabi but as I was on cable not sky I thought gurbani from Harmandir Sahib was shown on most Sikh or Punjabi channels. (Only one Punjabi channel on cable rest are Indian, also why Sikh channels not on cable?). It's a disgrace that rights are sold to a specific channel to show the broadcasts. I mean it's just a money making scheme, footage should be provided on a multichannel platform as some people do not have access to certain channels. This is not a good look. SGPC in India it's different everyone has the channels so it could make sense but in UK or wherever not everyone has all the channels. I mean I don't mind paying even if I watch a minimum amount but the thing is not all platforms support the channels. Like Sky has way more channels than cable but some like me has cable as too get sky I need to a have a dish on an extended post to get a signal and it makes no sense as it would wobble in bad weather, effect the signal and looks horrible on the property. Also when PTC airs in UK then I think the coverage will go to PTC and it will not be free to air.
