  1. Dalsingh Ji broke a lot of hearts in the late 80s and early 90s. Now we all have to live with the consequences.
  2. I was being sarcy - I dont think a case was even brought against this guy. If you want justice, form a Punjabi Legal System based on Sikh values that could be used in a real country. Trial them fairly in absentia and put bounties on their heads (if they are guilty). Then let the hunt begin!
  3. I wasnt trying to offend. I'm sure a lot of good is done there. But at the same time the things that happen there lead to attitudes and mindsets like the OPs which are self-defeating/corrosive and ultimately self destructive. I just want people to do better and not being near the problem areas or joining with people who you like is a lot better than letting this build up.
  4. The one who earns the most should give their wages to the one who looks after the home and children. So a joint account would make sense.
  5. East London seems to be a breeding ground for weird self-defeating Sikhs. Move to a more middle class Sikh community in London, or move to somewhere else in the South East where there are more Sikhs/Sikh Schools.
  6. Poor sod. Not that most Sikhs actually give a hoot what happens to Afghan Sikhs. But show a picture of some dead Talibs and our lot start frothing at the mouth towards the evil West! lol.
  7. Oh man, and we were so close to bringing him to justice.
  8. Preach peaceful resistance while getting beaten/abused/raped/killed, wait for India to go bankrupt in a World War, then refuse to give them food until they tear our country in half. That's how it worked last time, wasnt it?
  9. So much racism against Nelson Mandela on this thread, it's unreal. One love y'all.
  10. Wow, the usual reactionary silliness to history. WW2 is over! Get over it.
  11. Just because something may be good for you doesnt mean you can go and overdose on it.
  12. His video on the racist tram lady is funny.

    Gossiping Neighbour

Crazy people are crazy. She wont change in a million years. Try to avoid arguing with your own relatives so you dont give her anything to gossip about.
  14. Interpretation. Some people no matter how hard they try cannot wield power. Others excel at being powerful. Sikh history is full of examples of some Sikhs who failed to lead and others who excelled. I cant honestly answer unless you got a Gurmukh willing to get political who would also be happy to air their views and how they would change things. Then there would be the case of having to build a political party and where it would fit into the political spectrum as many voters are pretty left or right leaning.
  15. Nothing and everything. It all depends on which Gurmukh you refer to and what you want them to lead. When it comes to running a country, it is all about experience and knowing the system inside out. Now this doesnt mean playing by the system if it's crooked or 'getting dirty', but having the intelligence to develop mechanisms to operate within the the system without being seen to be a weak or useless leader. Also, how does one judge a Gurmukh's qualities? How do we judge leaders? Is it right to discriminate based on 'religiousity'? Some people lack charisma, some let power get to their heads, others take the opportunity and fly to heights no one expected of them when they are given leadership. Having a leader is the first step. No leader is good without more decent governors, ministers, ministeries, deparments etc right down to the common soldier, sailor, worker, farmer etc. who know what they are doing. A leader needs to understand what is going on every level or at least people willing to give him/her all the information in an unbiased way. The leader then has to sort out current issues whilst keeping an eye on the future and possible 'hiccups' that could pop up. Each event like this would have to be dealt with by people who could then carry out the leader's orders. They would have to feed back information if theoretical ideas dont materialise into practical systems. All this may have to be done under duress, such as without sufficient resources or uncooperation from certain people. If good results are produced then a nation is happy. If not then they will want change. In a democracy this results in elections. Could someone considered to have the greatest jeevan and be the best Gurmukh by religous institutions lose an election if the people are unhappy? What would that say about the religious institutions and, by association, the religion itself? If the country isnt a democracy and is more totalitarian, the people wanting change will resort to protest and violence. Again not great results. Some people will say that wont happen, but when our Gurudwaras on our own doorstep dont even serve the community fully and amass wealth at ridiculous levels, you have to say that so called religous people need to start with baby steps before they can even consider running entire countries and ruling over millions of people.
  16. Just because someone may be spiritual doesnt mean they know what they are on about. Bare in mind, one person may be considered a great Sikh and seem to be a good leader but it may be more to do with what their supporters say about them than what they are really like. What is this discussion referring to? Gurudwaras, local communities or entire countries? Each one is different and requires different levels of skill to achieve results in that 'sphere'.
  17. The Kirpan will always be the symbol of the Khalsa. Anyone one who wants to replace it is blaspheming. As for weapons, in today's battlefield people need a combination of close range, mid-range and long range weapons. I dont know where Harry Pannu is planning on fighting but it wont be won with one single 'miracle' weapon.
  18. But my point is that the guns -v- knives argument is stupid, as both can be used in a combat situation. Humble the Poet or the other guy arent really arguing to replace the Kirpan are they? To say that our Gurus knew about how future weapons would develop is irrelevant as they were fighting wars right there and then in the 17th and 18th century, they couldnt just sit around waiting until assault rifles and machine guns came around.
  19. Lol, KS55 I was trying to make a joke as this is a serious topic, but getting down about it wont achieve anything. There is an old Singh who I lived near who told me that in the 60s and 70s he used to work near Heathrow. When his friends mentioned that someone had come over with no family here or connections and barely any money they used to take them to stay in one of their houses, get him a job by asking around and educate the freshie about what was going on with living in the UK. They all used to live in houses without women to cook for them so they cooked for themselves. There was a lot of camaraderie and brotherly spirit back then. Could you imagine that happening today? The truth is that Gurudwaras and really rich Sikhs are the only ones who can help these guys today. They have the money and connections to help them as life is a lot more complicated than in the 60s/70s. Hell, if all the British Gurudwaras got their massive savings together to form a Sikh 'Bank' (which had its accounts auditted by an impartial external company) they could set these guys up with a mortgage on a small property and give them banking advice in order to help them focus on saving rather than rampant spending which is what most freshies do when they get some money. A Sikh bank could also give mortgages to Sikhs from the uk to move them out of problem areas to places with better free schools and other local infrastructure. This would help to create a stronger community more able to take in freshies. At the moment we are divided and at the mercy of larger groups in UK society. If our grandparents could help each other out and we cant, it says a lot about how far the Sikh community has gone in the wrong direction.
  20. Toblerone? I thought the customary Sikh greeting gift was a metal tin of Quality Street! The recession has hit us hard.................................
