  1. yep...Japji sahib,,, mool mantar and waheguru jap... You will soon enough notice that the child is listening and even japping from the way it will move when you are doing it !! :biggrin2:
  2. The point is that you/we/all of us should be Listening to Waheguru, not giving him our situations to listen to. "SUNIYE''-to listen..........is what Gurbani says. To jap and do naam simran, the gurmantar(mantra) is what we use to help us connect. Using the ''Wahe-Guru'' gurmantar is suggested to help you into simran. It is not just a matter of merely reciting it, but you should jap/recite it and make sure you LISTEN to hear it.............keep japping and Listening and soon enough you will feel it help.
  3. Yeh seriously, you need to find that sadh sangat that brings out the more best and positive in yourself.... the one that inspires you to be a better gurmat sikh. I know that a lot of us are sometimes torn in between families and friends, whose deeper intentions are always pure Maya. You can't walk out or away from them, but you learn to detach and keep that inner distance from them. In this sense, I mean that you try to adapt and just keep taking the POSITIVE vibes that come from them and learn to disassociate from any NEGATIVE influences that come from their way. Keep the nitnem and rehat with utmost love and confidence. That's why Guruji gave this discipline... because it works BOTH ways. You have to try and maintain the self and inner discipline, and in turn the Rehat will also keep you ! You won't have to go around knocking on doors looking for that sadh sangat, Guruji will just make it happen as per hukam depending on some time, some place and some encounter. Pray for strength.
  4. Singhji,, I never realized we had advanced students amongst us ! It would be a great idea if you started some shabad veechar threads.
  5. No where does this person claim to be a sikh in any way. Just because her surname is Jagpal and her parents may be punjabi,..... we automatically go around labelling people. It's some young girl.... someone's daughter.... who hasn't said or done anything to dishonor the sikh kaum,.... and we just just want to poke at her because we can ? Sometimes we should just mind our own business and stop judging souls from the shells they inhabit.
  6. My apologies............it's my ignorance that has never led me to research further. Correct, Dhru is a reference to the sage Dhruva. .............I shall try and find out a little more!
  7. This question has no need to be in gupt section. I've never had the need to search for a saint called 'dhoo',,... so I have no idea. In all honesty, this part of japji sahib actually begins to make sense when one has progressed a little further on the journey. The whole of gurbani can begin to fall in place for your inner self if you remain dedicated with love. Saying that, I would suggest listening and watching the basics of sikhi videos to start with and I believe they do have some for the japji sahib explanations pauri by pauri.
  8. Yes, exactly as in above post by Mokham Singh.... ''aise aise'........... means....thus, like this,as such, such like...etc.... The next line makes reference to ''like what/who'' ? ਰਾਮ ਜਪਉ ਜੀਅ ਐਸੇ ਐਸੇ ॥ raam japao jee aise aise. ਧ੍ਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਜਪਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਜੈਸੇ ॥੧॥ Ḏẖarū par▫hilāḏ japi▫o har jaise. ||1|| just as Dhroo and Prahlaad meditated on the Lord. ||1|| Dhroo was innocent 5 yr old that meditated in simple manner of JAP of God's name.(does NOT matter what name he used or we should use) See below thread for more info. http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?/topic/44874-bhagat-dhroo-jees-determination/?p=411143 The love and determination was primarily preset, therfore this bairag helped him achieve whatever he was told to jap.
  9. doing nitnem right after consuming foods is not a good idea. Jap, simran, nitnem...etc.. is better done 2-3 hours after eating. I don't understand why you would want the need to eat in between or during japji sahib ?? When your surti gets properly immersed into waheguru, then the needs of physical body don't come into play.
  10. 'Sold out' to the government is the main issue that he is renowned for.
  11. The Khalsa that everyones been waiting for !
  12. This is the same reason why yoga is critisized and misunderstood, especially hatha yoga where the belief is that kundalini and chakras can be raised purely with physical techniques, without any focus(dhyan) on waheguru.... It's fine... may be they can and I'm not disputing that, but the yogis get stuck there and don't get the blessings of kirpa that are ESSENTIAL on the TRUE path. Now, you will be thinking, ... ''Well, what if I just cheat with this little bit and get chakras all aligned and activated so kundalini rises, then I can start my serious simran and Bhakti after'' ................WELL, who are you actually cheating or trying to cheat ??? Yourself or Waheguru ??? ...Think about it and look at all the references In Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji about this, and you will find that they tell you to go with the SHABAD from the beginning to the end.
  13. According to gurmat, we don't have to worry about any of this sort of stuff. We should have the utmost confidence that the shabad alone or gurmantar will open up all such pathways. All the chakras, kundalini rising..etc... can all happen with his Grace/Kirpa and with the shabad. No need for any 3rd party to come and stimulate such happenings..... it all happens with the shabad.
  14. Yes, this is one of the many reasons why people believe that they are sikhs. The don't see ''Guru Maneyo Granth'' but when it comes to marriage they abuse and use the sacred anand karaj ceremony. Since they can have the same kind of names as sikhs with the singh, kaur in the middle and surname... then the gurdwara granthis can't argue with a good enough reason to refuse the marriage...........this is the difficult problem that can't be addressed head on.
  15. I think that the radhaswami confusion arises because we have many punjabis that may appear as sikhs but are radhaswami. I've come across many punjabi fellows with common surnames and some older ones with turbans that appear as part of average sikh community. However, I have later learned that they are keen followers of radhaswami ! Then again, there are also some very confused younger radhaswami's that attend both satsangs and gurdwara, but they don't understand the sri Guru granth sahib ji as the living guru. I think this is what confuses some people like the OP above.. Then a lot of youngsters may always assume that so and so is a sikh but will hear someone saying they are radhaswami in derogatory way. This leaves the impression that they have something to do with sikhi, but are not liked by the majority. as for laddi shah... the above posts have all explained him well !... so we don't need to be mixing his stuff with sikhi. I believe in punjab, we have had many sikh appearing punjabis going and worshiping the tombs at this guys yard ..and more famously Gurdas maan has done well endorsing this filth.
  16. The KEY here is to understand ''What really is naam jap ??'' and ''WHO or What does Naam Jap ?" Naam jap can be done by anyone and any faith. Naam jap is not done by tongue or bana, or mala.. or even breath ...? Naam jap has No Effect until Your MIND does the jap !! Wearing bana, having mala, fatiguing your mouth and tongue, ....etc... is not going to do anything if your MIND is jumping around in all directions. Therefore, please understand that once your Mind starts to focus just on jap, only then will it begin to get enshrined in your heart. And only this goes into the 'khajhana'(treasure box) of naam that you will take with you.
  17. I would more or less say the same . For definite, fear helps to bring one out or make one realise their 5 chor weaknesses. Even though fear is itself a weakness,......we fall for our weaknesses more easily. In a way, if someone needs to be awaken from their complete engrossment in kaam let's say..... then they need some kind of fear as in the case of op above....... some factor of fear, itself highlights the fear of God within that person. Once you learn and hopefully start some kind of self discipline (another reason for rehat!), then his nadar/grace starts giveing you that feel of divine love. Our Gurus were all completely God loving, they had no reason to be fearing, along with Shaheeds and great sikhs all gave their lives in the name of pure love, without a single ounce of any kind of fear from anyone.
  18. There way of thinking is that the crown or top of the head should be exposed. They may view the hair on top or a covering as a blockage on the doorway. SIkhs and some other faiths, believe that the hair are a natural antennae to connect the doorway.
  19. Build that layer of naam around yourself with simran. When we soak the cotton in ghee and then ignite it.......only the ghee continues to burn but the cotton underneath and in the core remains untouched ! In the same way, naam can help build that layer of ghee, whilst you walk and eat through the fire of maya.
  20. I totally agree with the above. :biggrin2: This is the reason behind having bibek rehit. Again, it goes back to having as much emphasis on sirgun and nirgun. For eg, if you are purchasing food from outside like a restaurant, then you want to be assured that good physical hygiene was there. You expect that everyone that prepared it used clean hands, clean utensils, and clean surfaces throughout the process. We know with physical hygiene, one has to repeatedly wash at frequent intervals. We know that just one thorough wash before work is not enough because in between the hands shall be used in bathroom, to scratch your nose, scratch arm, touching other foods and materials...etc..etc.... Therefore, the physical sargun washing and hygiene has to be maintained continuously. This is all about physical-sargun cleanliness. Now, what if we think about nirgun and inner cleanliness ? Do you want the person involved with your food prep to have some inner rehit and be in some way spiritually clean ? Those following bibek rehit have good reasons to be giving this nirgun and unseen cleanliness some regard. Example....- If you cook yourself, even something real simple, then you may have noticed that when you cook it at a steady, calm and relaxed mind pace with good inner feelings or intentions of love... then your simple dish comes out tasting delicious. -we say that this was cooked with pyaar! On the other hand, if you cooked it with exact same stuff in a huge un-calm, angry, vigorous and rough manner.... then it comes out tasting pretty bad and un-steady like the thoughts and intentions you had when cooking it ! -we say this wasn't cooked with any pyaar! See what I mean.?? There must be some direction of positive and negative energies that has an influence in the food. Or the nirgun attributes go on to affect the sargun attributes of the food itself. Now, if you keep eating this same foods cooked with krodh and ill intentions, then surely these same attributes will affect you in some way as energies. Having your food cooked by someone who is spiritually clean and has positive Godly intentions will affect your own absorption of the same highly positive energies from the food. I don't keep any kind of bibek rehit, but I totally understand those that do.. Some sikhs see it as an extreme and prejudice issue because they claim that those practicing bibek look down at others and refuse to eat from others hands.... they see it as the old brahmnin 'untouchable' phenomena..... But, If you understand the reason about inner cleanliness, then you may realize that there is some importance in this ''inner'' cleanliness. Now, for the original question of affecting your own Mind........ then you can see......Yes, there can be some kind of negatives that affect our minds! I know some of us don't have the choice and when I was a student, I ate out all the time as i rarely cooked. So, what do we do if we a majboor and have to rely on restaurants and take outs ? I would probably say and advise that you should do ardas and do an inner matha tek to waheguru to thank for the food you are eating for your own survival. As long as our thoughts are with waheguru, when we begin to eat and are thankful, I personally feel OK. Waheguru himself can baksh and bless all your requirements, be they food and drink. Remember that Saas Graas means every breath and morsel of food we should dhyia (meditate/focus) his name.
  21. Not too sure what you mean :blush2: I thought that pineal gland is what leads to 6th sense activation or 3rd eye stimulation. It's important to understand that 3rd eye and agya chakkar can get activated and continue to open. Until you get to dasam duar(crown),.....the 3rd eye continues to open. Dastar and khes do have an involvement in the spirituality because if hair is cut and every time you cut, then the energies coming in from above into this heavily merged point of nadis get affected in a negative manner.
  22. He mentions William Stead who penned the book ''letters from julia'' back in early 1900's. I read this book some time ago, and it was amazingly accurate in describing the afterlife for as far as we can understand. Sant ji mentions that 5 minutes meditation is all that is suggested to help us move further in the spiritual world after death. This 5 minutes is what Julia advised whilst speaking from the other side. Just share some info........- Anyway, this William Stead, famous author was one of the people that died on the famous Titanic, that sank on it's maiden voyage from UK to US. I'm not sure if you guys have seen the blockbuster Titanic movie,.. but near the end there is a scene where it shows everyone trying to run for their lives on the sinking ship. But there were a small handful of people that stayed calm and accepted the hukam of drowning in cold sea and knew they would not be saved.......... Wiiliam Stead was one of these calm folks......... Witness accounts say that they remembered Mr Stead dining and talking so much about God and spirituality with his table guests. They noticed that he had a lot of faith and confidence as a book author compared to a preacher..... The last few accounts said they saw him sitting calmly in a seat with water rising up from ankles, and tightly holding a bible to his chest. Whilst clutching the bible, he was meditating and trying to accumulate as much wealth of naam during those final moments ! He accepted God's call and hukam very calmly and knew that he should be meditating/jap instead of panicking and running around like the majority. BTW.. christians also have a few mantras for meditation/simran and I know that ''maranatha'' is one as well as the Jesus prayer..''lord jesus christ, have mercy on me'' --which they synchronize with breath.
  23. pineal gland is more connected to 3rd eye(agya chakkar) as far as I know. Dasam duar is the top of the head on the crown, where ALL the nadis in your subtle body merge from...... Through this comes all the divine pranic energy that keeps the nadis working. It is also called the crown chakra.
  24. Ask them if their body is nirgun, sargun or both ? ask if they have a mind and where is it located ? Better still, ask how can the uttering of nirgun bismallah whilst cutting a chicken's head, make it halal and purified. Is their purification action completely sirgun, nirgun or Both ? Most muslims refuse to listen, so you are better off questioning their actions.
