  1. Problem is many Sikhs will eat Halal or not too bothered if they have no choice on the matter I think we are better off vegetarian to avoid these issues to start with
  2. They have many times higher numbers than we have. They know they will 'win' either way because they will get publicity and/or claim being victim if people oppose/attack them. Maybe Christians need to up their game in response @GurjantGnostic
  3. Not a big music 'fan' generally, but I do think LeAnn Rimes has/had super talented voice what you think @GurjantGnostic?
  4. https://www.siasat.com/move-over-up-karnataka-is-indias-new-anti-muslim-hate-factory-2298366/ Move over UP, Karnataka is India’s new anti-Muslim hate factory Shreya Srikonda| Updated: 3rd April 2022 4:16 pm IST Pinned areas denote places where instances of anti-Muslim aggression have been reported in Feb-March 2022. Since the Hijab row started in January this year, Karnataka has been witnessing instances of blatant Islamophobia non-stop. The state is now being called ‘the Uttar Pradesh of south India’ after rising cases of anti-Muslim Hindutva aggression are being reported on an almost every-day basis from different districts of the state. Karnataka is also home to the second highest population of Muslims in Southern India after Kerala, with almost 13 per cent of its population comprising Muslims. Earlier, instances of Islamophobia would primarily be concentrated in South coastal Karnataka, where several right-wing vigilante groups operate, more often than not unlawfully. While South coastal Karnataka is considered to be a stronghold of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and other right-wing groups (communal violence has been rife in the area from the 1970s and 80s), communalism has now evidently become an everyday affair across the state. The latest issue pertaining to Halal meat has also led to violence. https://www.cnbctv18.com/news/explained-the-karnataka-halal-controversy-the-latest-developments-13020122.htm Explained: The Karnataka halal controversy; the latest developments By CNBCTV18.com | Apr 01, 2022, 06:41 PM IST (Published)

Jatinder Pal Singh was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for five years in 2018 after pleading guilty to two sexual assaults in Gateshead. As a result, the 38-year-old was required to inform police within three days if he moved home. However, in October last year, Singh changed his address from Bolam House, near St James' Park, in Newcastle, to one on Buckingham Street, in Arthur's Hill, and failed to tell officers. It was only discovered four-months-later when a constable did a face-to-face check. A court heard that Singh claimed he hadn't wanted his sordid history revealed or police turning up at his new home and ruining his reputation in the local Sikh community. Now, Singh, of Buckingham Street, has been given a 12-month community order and must do 300 hours of unpaid work after he pleaded guilty to failing to comply with notification requirements on the Sex Offenders' Register. He was previously cautioned for a similar offence. Clare Irving, prosecuting at Newcastle Magistrates' Court, said an officer turned up to check on Singh at his old address in Bolam House on February 23 this year. Ms Irving continued: "The door was opened by the manager of the property. He said the defendant had moved out several months before. He said he moved out on October 30 2021. "The defendant is immediately contacted by the officer on the phone. The defendant sounded funny on the phone and said he had just moved to his new address and was on his way to Forth Banks Police Station to notify of the change. He did attend. "He was interviewed in relation to the offence and confirmed he had been living at the new address for a number of months." The court heard that asylum seeker Singh moved into his new home, which he rented from a friend, and felt he couldn't inform police as it would tarnish his reputation. Gregg Stephens, defending, said: "He's a Sikh and there is a fairly large Sikh community in Newcastle. "His friend didn't want him bringing police around to the address and he didn't want the Sikh community asking what they were doing there."

  10. What do you think about Sikh broadcasting channels on Sky in the UK who frequently run appeals/ask for subscriptions, either to 'keep the channel running' or for other purposes such as 'charity/donation' for people requiring medical treatment in Panjab/India? They also do appeals for Sikligars This one appears on one of these channels regularly, and I can say from personal experience should not be trusted https://www.worldcancercare.co.in/index-info-kulwantsinghdhaliwal.html

Kanwal and Naina were introduced a few years ago and broke up this year. Naina said she wants the dowry her family paid for their marriage to be returned. Sydney man Kanwal. (A Current Affair) "All I want, give me back whatever my parents paid in this wedding and whatever my parents gave you, just give me back," Naina said. Kanwal claims his wife's demands are what initially caused some friction. But he said things got worse after Naina received permanent residency in Australia, claiming he received a difficult call from one of his wife's relatives while they were visiting India. Kanwal's wife Niana. (A Current Affair) "Saying I'm impotent and I'm not keeping Naina happy and he's going to file a case against me. I was shocked I was absolutely shocked," Kanwal told A Current Affair. "I can tell you I'm not impotent." With impotency a valid excuse for divorce in India, Naina filed a complaint against her husband with the Punjab Police. Naina and husband Kanwal. (A Current Affair) The complaint included demand for Kanwal to repay the wedding dowry. But Kanwal didn't stay in India to face the police. Instead, he flew to Sydney to visit a doctor who gave him a note confirming he had no physical issues. Kanwal's dowry dossier includes demands from an Indian police officer to pay compensation. Kanwal and Naina were introduced a few years ago and broke up this year. (A Current Affair) Kanwal was sceptical about the demands he received via email but Indian police confirmed to Kanwal that Naina's complaint is official. Now his family say they fear if they don't front up to face the allegations, they could lose their family home in India in order to pay the compensation. Naina is now back in Australia and living in Melbourne. https://www.desiblitz.com/content/australian-indian-man-wants-wife-deported-back-to-india She also revealed that her nickname for Kanwal was “honey”, even having it tattooed on her hand. This is something Naina wants to remove. Kanwal claimed that his estranged wife used him. He said: “She has broken my trust, my family’s trust and she’s just used me as a guinea pig just to get what she wanted.” Meanwhile, Naina alleged that she was the one being used, saying: “He had planned and plotted to dump me, to use me and to take money from my parents, that was his plotting, not mine.” Kanwal went on to reveal that their wedding photo is now kept in the wardrobe. Naina explained that one reason for their marriage declining was a lack of physical intimacy. She added that her love for him had been genuine. Kanwal said: “I went against my family to get married to Naina because I loved her.” According to the report, the decline in their marriage turned nasty, with Kanwal stating that he does not love her anymore, adding: “I don’t think anybody would.” Both want the marriage to end but Kanwal wants Naina out of Australia. He elaborated: “I don’t think any person of this mentality deserves to be an Australian citizen, this is against Australian values.” It is believed they are disputing over dowry, with Naina revealing that her parents spent a lot of money on the wedding.
  12. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuval_Noah_Harari In a 2017 article, Harari argued that through continuing technological progress and advances in the field of artificial intelligence, "by 2050 a new class of people might emerge – the useless class. People who are not just unemployed, but unemployable."[29] He put forward the case that dealing with this new social class economically, socially and politically will be a central challenge for humanity in the coming decades.[30] Harari summed up his views on the world in a 2018 interview with Steve Paulson of Nautilus thus: "Things are better than ever before. Things are still quite bad. Things can get much worse. This adds up to a somewhat optimistic view because if you realize things are better than before, this means we can make them even better."[33] Philanthropy[edit] During the COVID-19 pandemic, following former United States President Donald Trump's cut to WHO funding, Harari announced that he and his husband would donate $1 million to the WHO through Sapienship, their social impact company.[61][62]

  14. Interesting man Harari is gay[35] and in 2002 met his husband Itzik Yahav, whom he calls "my internet of all things".[36][37] Harari says Vipassana meditation, which he began whilst in Oxford in 2000,[40] has "transformed my life".[41] He practises for two hours every day (one hour at the start and end of his work day[42]), every year undertakes a meditation retreat of 30 days or longer, in silence and with no books or social media,[43][44][28] and is an assistant meditation teacher.[45] He also regards meditation as a way to research.[28] Harari is a vegan, and says this resulted from his research, including his view that the foundation of the dairy industry is breaking the bond between mother cow and calf.[4][47] As of May 2021, Harari does not have a smartphone.[48][49 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuval_Noah_Harari

PC Swaleh Chaudhry, 36, used his mobile phone to upskirt a woman at a Primark store in Southside shopping centre in south London last month, Wimbledon Magistrates' Court court heard. While in the changing room, the woman heard "rustling" and looked down and saw a device pointing up at her from the next cubicle. She screamed: "Are you recording me?", to which a voice replied: "No", before she left the fitting room to tell her boyfriend about the ordeal. 16. https://www.easterneye.biz/russia-is-unreliable-us-warns-india-no-red-line-for-oil-imports/ By: Pramod Thomas THE US will not set any “red line” for India on its energy imports from Russia but does not want to see a “rapid acceleration” in purchases, a top US official said during a visit to New Delhi. However, Daleep Singh, Washington’s chief sanctions strategist, was quoted by local media during the visit as saying that India could not rely on Russia if there was another clash with China. Lured by steep discounts following Western sanctions on Russian entities, India has bought at least 13 million barrels of Russian crude oil since the country invaded Ukraine in late February. That compared with some 16 million barrels for the whole of last year, data shows. “Friends don’t set red lines,” Singh told reporters, adding however that its partners in Europe and Asia had been urged to cut their reliance on “an unreliable energy supplier”. Meanwhile, Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov began meetings with India’s leaders in New Delhi on Friday (1) after seeing his Chinese counterpart earlier in the week, as Moscow tries to keep the Asian powers on its side amid Western sanctions. Russia has long been India’s biggest supplier of defence equipment, despite growing purchases from the US in the past decade. Defence analysts say Russian supplies are more cost-competitive and vital for India as it faces a superior Chinese military. Singh said the US was ready to help India diversify its energy and defence supplies.

  18. This looks interesting https://www.amazon.co.uk/Faith-Gender-Activism-Punjab-Conflict/dp/3030246736 Product Description Punjab was the arena of one of the first major armed conflicts of post-colonial India. During its deadliest decade, as many as 250,000 people were killed. This book makes an urgent intervention in the history of the conflict, which to date has been characterized by a fixation on sensational violence―or ignored altogether. Mallika Kaur unearths the stories of three people who found themselves at the center of Punjab’s human rights movement: Baljit Kaur, who armed herself with a video camera to record essential evidence of the conflict; Justice Ajit Singh Bains, who became a beloved “people’s judge”; and Inderjit Singh Jaijee, who returned to Punjab to document abuses even as other elites were fleeing. Together, they are credited with saving countless lives. Braiding oral histories, personal snapshots, and primary documents recovered from at-risk archives, Kaur shows that when entire conflicts are marginalized, we miss essential stories: stories of faith, feminist action, and the power of citizen-activists. Review “An exceptionally unique and major contribution to this extensive literature. … A particular strength of the book are the personal stories and narratives offered by Mallika Kaur’s interviewees, which give the reader a rare glimpse … . The product is a very readable but intellectually engaging book which is equally valuable for novices who wish to learn more about Sikh history and the Punjab conflict, and also for established scholars of Punjab, Indian democracy, human rights and legal studies.” (Jugdep S. Chima, Journal of Sikh & Punjāb Studies JSPS, Vol. 28 (1), 2021) “Excellent book examining the human rights dimension of the conflict in the Indian Punjab should be of interest to scholars, policy makers, journalists, diplomats, and practitioners. Mallika Kaur crafts an inspiring book that greatly contributes to the human rights literature … . Kaur furnishes a profoundly human story full of wit, poetry, and meaning that opens a fascinating window into the Sikh community, both in India and abroad. The interdisciplinary nature of the book is one of its main strengths.” (Andreas E. Feldmann, Human Rights Quarterly, Vol. 43 (2), May, 2021) more here thewire.in/article/books/mallika-kaur-punjab-conflict-review/amp

  21. Agree very much with most of what you have said. I think ‘liberal’ parenting can make some suceptible to this still . I have mentioned it before either here or on SA, but I think massive awareness needs to be targeted towards the ‘freshies’ and their children who have only come to the UK in recent years. They might have had limited experience /exposure to the stories/news on grooming and who might be more likely to consider other communities as ‘bhain’/‘bhra’ than we would . No idea how our British Afghan Sikhs brothers/sisters see this because they have been persecuted in Afghanistan but apparently some work closely with/employ non-Sikh Afghans to work for them. The ‘awareness’ campaigns seem quieter now (at least SAS seem to be quieter now). Anyone know how much work the likes of them and SYUK do at Universities snd Colleges ? I Imagine they are limited by political correctness and blacklisting
  22. @GurjantGnostic ‘Narc ‘ alert ?! uk.news.yahoo.com/amphtml/british-man-killed-girlfriend-bali-142335473.html British man ‘killed by girlfriend in Bali’ while on video call with family in UK Sami Quadri 15 January 2022, 14:24 Emmy Pakpaha has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Matt Harper (Facebook) A British man was allegedly murdered by his girlfriend in Bali during a video call with his family. Matt Harper, 48, is believed to have been stabbed to death by Indonesian-born Emmy Pakpahan at their home in the tourist hotspot on Thursday…. The hotel boss had been in a relationship with Pakpahan since July last year, friends said. Pakpahan, who is in her 40s, is alleged to have told police that Matt killed himself. She showed officers a video of his body laying on the floor just moments after the suspected attack. She even took footage of herself from outside the apartment, claiming her lover had locked the doors and intentionally harmed himself. In a video posted to social media following the attack, she thanked friends and family for their “support”. In the bizarre footage, she said: “Naturally I am sad. And if you guys don’t hear from me, it’s not because I don’t want to answer, I need time to process things. "Please don’t believe anything until a statement comes out from the police department.” Allin Efashion, who is Mr Harper’s ex-girlfriend, told the paper: “I was with him before he got with Emmy. He was a perfect gentleman, a caring and lovely man. He was the love of my life. I can’t believe he’s gone. “He texted me just a few days before he died, saying he hated Emmy because she ruined his life — and he was sorry for leaving me. “He was the best father to his two girls and step-daughter and was loved by many friends in the UK and Bali. May he rest in peace Ms Pakpahan has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the suspected attack, The Sun reported. The father-of-two had been speaking to his step-daughter and ex-wife on a video call at the time of the alleged killing.
