  1. However I do think that listening is also a good aid for memorising bani as well, such as in work situations, or trips and journeys. Also some people have longer nitnem, they do paat of Shabad Hazare and Shabad Hazare patshahi 10, Chaupai Sahib and even Benti Chaupai length may differ. they may also read an additional Swaiye staring Deenan Ki Pratipal, and some sampradaiye also read Chandi Di Vaar and Uggardanti as part of nitnem as well! Also for evening nitnem they may read very long Chaupai Sahib for Sodar Rehras as well as long Aarti Aarta afterwards, and for night Rakhiya deh Shabad along with Keertan Sohila.
  2. headphones, and just listen to nitnem on your phone, or as suggested above on mp3 player. Anyway life is a journey, so no need to exclude nitnem I think smartphone is more convenient these days, carrying an extra mp3 is inconvenient unless phone battery is bad.
  3. whether they can be clearly heard or not, we both agree that they are indeed pronounced! However I think I still think that many people will not clearly hear the shabad with sihari. And yes, I do pledge to the blue nishaan sahib!
  4. read the full sakhi to understand what happened. It's not spurious at all!
  5. it does? that is news to me. ? sikh Sants and mahapurash are often drawn sitting on tiger or lion skin mats. Are the goatskin tablas and nagaras used by sikhs and Singhs also contradictory to sikhi? I think calling sikhi as sikhism is also contradictory to sikhi ?
  6. this is very difficult to read, can you at least put some spaces so we can read this? Please edit your post! Also too many caps....
  7. back to my question, why is this in sakhian section?
  8. Even in Sat(i)naam, the sihari is faint, it's not clear like a bihari, it is not satee-naam is it now?! yes it's not right, but even the siharee makes a slight difference in pronunciation even if it is faint. The sihari slightly extends the sound of a letter instead of going straight towards pronouncing the next letter! I reckon it makes a letter half a second longer or so in pronunciation.
  9. Nope, ਭਗਤੀ bhakti/bhagti/bhagtee is spelt with a bihari, that is why you hear it clearly. with a siharee it becomes ਭਗਤਿ bhagat(i)/ bhakt(i) there will still be some change in pronouncing the akhar at the end, than without the siharee. With the siharee you don't hear it clearly within the context you are talking about.
  10. that is strange, because these can be pronounced lightly without changing the meanings. let me see if I can find a video where this is pronounced. like some paat I listen to when the paati is saying: ੴ ਸਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿEK ONG KAR SAT GUR PRASAD they are saying prasad(i), like pronouncing the sihari. The sihari is quite light compared to bihari, so not everyone will notice. Because, remember, the way we speak punjabi is different from British English. Like for standard english you try and say the words as-is. But in punjabi we have accents, and the sihari and aunkar for words also kind of adds an accent. Like if someone has the name Deepinder or Bhupinder, some people especially outside punjab may right their names as Deepindra or Bhupindra. And I don't think this is as strong as using a kanna, it's just a little bit of desi accent in the end!
  11. I guess he is a cultural sikh, so will culturally go to family events. Just like how some sikhs only go to gurdwara for family events
  12. they are not silent, it's probably better that you are pronouncing them. Check santhiya classes online and you will see that they are pronounced., and the way they are pronounced.
  13. my local MP is Boris.... Actually the Man before him was a good person, and was quite close to my family.
  14. oh it would be funny to see what modern gatkabajis would turn nunchakus into, they could put lights on it and make a light show LOL As for shastarvidiya, I reckon nunchaku could fit in with Varaha (Boar) pentra, and would fit in well with the close combat nature of pentras in shastar vidiya. Khalsa used to be good at taking in foreign weapons and reverse engineering. We need to continue with this!
  15. are we still replying to the original poster, since the thread was opened in 2017? I am sure he is 20 now!
  16. I mean before SGPC, the Akali Nihangs used to do jhatka in front of Akal Takht/Bunga (admin please don't get annoyed just stating history!!!). But I guess in a way ordering meat in is still kind of shameless since it isn't parshad like jhatka!
  17. I am not vegetarian, but I have lactose related intolerance and allergies. So I avoid milk however butter, (clarified) ghee and yogurt are ok to eat due to low lactose content, real lassi is ok to drink too as long as regular milk hasn't been mixed. Some people can also handle Raw milk as opposed to pasteurised supermarket milk. Also Guru Gobind Singh really recommends ghee to eat.
  18. Sri Dasam Baani Dasherea "Dussehra" Mahtam maryada of Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib Ji "BAANI SRI DASEHRA MAHATAM" (SACHKHAND SRI HAZOOR SAHIB) TRACK NO. 01- JAAP SAHIB * AKAL USTAT * BACHITTAR NATAK * CHANDI CHARITR UKAT * CHANDI CHARITR LIKHAITE * CHANDI DI VAAR * GYAN PARBODH * ATH CHOBEES AVTAAR * BEESWAN RAM AVTAAR * KRISHNA AVTAAR * NEHKALANKI AVTAAR * PARASNATH RUDRA AVTAAR * RAMKALI PATHSHAHI-10 * BATTI SEWAIYE * KHALSA MAHIMA * SHASTAR NAAM WALA * ATH PAKIYAN CHARITAR SINGH SAHIB GIANI PRATAP SINGH JI (HEAD GRANTHI SACHKHAND SRI HAZOOR SAHIB) SINGH SAHIB SANT BABA KULWANT SINGH JI JATHEDAR SACHKHAND (SRI HAZOOR SAHIB NADED) SANT BABA BALWINDER SINGH JI (GURDWARA LANGER SAHIB) "In the 1897 report on the Sri Dasam Granth Sahib, they note that Dasshera was linked with the Sri Dasam Granth Sahib. Under the control of the SGPC, this practice of Dasshera was stopped. However it still takes place at Hazur Sahib and the Akali Nihang Singh Khalsa. In a dispute about the leadership of Buddha Dal the Sikh mystic Akali Baba Mitt Singh said that who ever ensured this tradition with Shastar Puja, would remain intact, should be the rightful leader, to which Baba Kaladhari agreed. According to Uday Singh, in the foreward to Dusshera Mahatan Granth Sahib, he states that the worship of weapons was an ancient practice of the Devas and when the Guru formalised Shakti into the tradition of Bhakti, the worship of weapons was important to the Khalsa. Due to the Khalsa being a Raj Yogi, and needing to prepare the mind and spirit for battle. According to him this was stopped in the Akal Takht Sahib by the new commitee after 1919. At Hazur Sahib, Baba Mitt Singh ji had this Granth written by Bhai Ram Singh and Sewa Singh. it was first printed in the 1940s. The path is Akhand for nine days with the bhog on the tenth with these following bani's repeated: Jap Sahib, Akal Ustat, Bachitra Natak, Chandi Charitra Ukhati Bilas, Chandi Charitra, Chandi di //, Gian Prabodh, Chaubis Avatar, Ram Avatar, Krishnaavatar, Nihkalanki Avatar, Paras nath, Shabad Hazare, Svaiye, Khalsa Mahima, Shastra Nam Mala, Charitropakhyan first invocation, on the last day. Jap Sahib, full Chaupai Sahib, Ramavatar, Zafarnama Sahib, Svaiye, should be read."
  19. you are absolutely right. I especially see some jathas appropriate their members as gursikhs in order to take their behaviour and views as almost-perfect! Such a shame!
  20. Some of the jatha Singhs wear East Africa/Kenya Singh paghs, maybe the material in the pic is the same material for those kind of paghs?
  21. I mean you could tell them to do that, but the original poster hasn't posted on this forum since 2013, so I think your answer is 7 years late. Of course, since you're a guest on here, I have no idea if you are going to reply lol
  22. yeh, it would be good if someone brought back a site like sikhpal or sikhportal, they were good for meeting sikhs!
