Firstly can you please provide a specific refrence to this 8 steps to kaam? or do i have to search for it in the SGGS?

Now, The first step to Kaam has nothing to do with just 'talking' with the opposite gender. It has all to do with your mental state when talking with the opposite gender. This isn't a black and white thing where one is automatically considered a Kaami person if he is talking to a girl/boy.

Perhaps i have misunderstood your intent, so please correct me if that is so.

the link doesn't work piyario...

I agree we have to be carefull with our mind and keep it on a short leash. But our lives shouldn't be lived in fear of kaam, that if we talk to a girl kaam will arise, if it does then let it arise and face it with our strenght and hand in hand with our Guru. You cannot defeat that which you do not encounter.

Guroo Pyari Sadh Sangat Jio, I came across this great passage while reading Sri Guroo Nanak Parkash by Kavi Santokh Singh Ji who’s been given the title of ‘Chura Mann’. Kavi Ji has been one of the greatest historians and amongst the first ones to pen down the history of the Sikh Panth. I will try to write a biographical sketch of Kavi Ji’s life soon; in the meantime here is something important which I suppose will help a lot of youth.

The problem of kaam has been discussed on this forum before when daas did this small upraala of starting a thread on it. It is available for everyone to read at this address: http://forums.waheguroo.com/index.ppa?showtopic=10004&hl=

There is a parsang of Guroo Nanak Dev Ji blessing gyaan to Emperor Shivnaabh. Upon gaining the grace of Guroo Nanak Sahib Ji, the emperor asked Guroo Sahib to bless him with gyaan and Guroo Sahib at that time mentioned many different virtues which are important and Guroo Sahib also told him to stay away from kaam, even in thoughts. Guroo Sahib mentioned that there is kaam of 8 kinds, which takes steps and the ‘stages’ increase from one to the next if one fails to control the initial stage. Here is the exact passage from that Sri Guroo Nanak Parkash:

First stage is of talking to one another about those of other sex. And the next stage occurs when one starts thinking of such talks by himself and others in his mind. Third stage occurs when one meets those of other sex in person. Fourth is when one touches the other person. Fifth is when s/he looks at others with an urging interest. Sixth is when that person touches the other with having lustful desires. Seventh is when that person constantly keeps on thinking of the other person in his mind. Eighth is when he fulfills the desires of his mind.

As we can see that the first few stages might not seem very objectionable but later on the stages start becoming obvious and if the person does happen to enter any of the finale stages I believe that is when the person ruins everything up for himself. So to save ourselves from such stages it’s important that we stay away from the early ones.

heres it veer je

and kaam isnt easy to battle

trust me, u dont know wat maya can do, not only in kaam

the only way is kirpa

ONLY THAT

u cant do anything by ureself

i felt this first hand

only when kirpa is on u can u destroy kaam

and trust me, it has no power even close of some power against u if u go to gurughar, do ure bhagti, nintem, at least 2.5 hours bhagti, kaam cant touch u man

but it depends

i u dont do bhagti, u can have all the gian, outwardly things like dumalai u want, its not going to help uonly kirpa

but i agree with u completly veer je

sorry...

doing bhagti alone...and going to gurughar ain't enough to get kaam off your back...

you have to be constantly aware of the thoughts and feelings you're having...and try to replace them as soon as you can...

we should never think that becasue we do nitnem, simran, seva, sangat..that kaam can't touch us...cuz there's some degree of haumai in that...

we could alternatively think...that guru ji has blessed me with nitnem, he has blessed me with simran, he has blessed my paapi hands with some seva, and TRUST that guru ji will keep kaam away....

Gupt Dasan Das ji, i have a question regarding the first line of your attached file.

Now from as much as i understand gurmukhi. The first line is simply stating do not talk 'about' the opposite sex, NOT do not talk to the opposite sex.

Now does that mean men shouldn't talk of women or are the words implying we shouldn't talk sexually of the opposite sex. I think if we understand those words literally that we shouldn't speak of the opposite sex, it would mean we must stop ourselves from even looking at the opposite sex. I seriously do not belive for us Gristis that those would be the command of our guru who told us to live in the world and not renounce it. Perhaps the intent of those words are towards the sexually oriented talks of the opposite sex. Which is obviously going to induce kaam.

Please correct me if im mistaken.

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
