go into somethin u WANT to do and somethin you LIKE... don't go into somethin that others suggest .. 'cause u might not like it... remember i's not all bout the benjamins (money)... if u wanna do that... then power to you... but i's a big decision to make.. so weigh all the options... look at the good side and bad side of every field.... and then make ur decision from there...

especially in the new york / boston area there are many social service organizations that can help new immigrants to learn job skills

please go to www.unitedsikhs.org and contact them for assistance

also please keep in touch on this forum, continue to post and you will get good advice from other gursikhs

please also post your questions on www.tapoban.org and www.sikhiunleashed.com

you will get a wide range of advice from different age gursikhs across the world

now, about your professional training - you need some type of professional trade or certificate

trades is good because you become a professional in one sector and you can open a business in that sector (woodwork, plumbing, etc.)

then there is technology like Oracle DB, web related work, computers, engineering, programming - those programs take longer and they are slightly more difficult

for long-term earning potential, you must consult some immigration consultants, employment consultants, and some professional gursikhs in the new york, DC, buffalo, new jersey area (northeast USA). you can get gursikh contacts from www.unitedsikhs.org - contact them for help.

whatever you do - keep faith in guru sahib - don't give up your sikhi

never trim your beard or cut your kes, never drink alcohol or take drugs.

American green card is not worth more than Dasmesh Pita's blessing.

too many gursikhs came to USA and became patit

do not lose your sikhi for a few american dollars.

Waheguru Jeo,

If you wana study in US and also work, you will have to prepare yourself for the tough part. Because it would be hard for you to find very good Job and go to school at the same time. But you can find a decent job in any store or something. You can get enough money to pay off your bills. But again you will have to work hard no matter what. Thou your college days will be tough but once you finish ur studies the door of oppourtunities will be opend for you. And there might be some problem regards to Job in the starting could be bcause of religion and also because of less familiarity with english language. I would say, keep talking in english at home or away from now on. And more you talk, more will be better for you once you land in here. Finding a job could be as simple, but it won't be that hard either.

So good luck khalsa jeo.

Waheguru ji ka khalsa

Waheguru ji ki FAteh!

Daas,

Barik
